This was an awkward moment for Yifan. He had never met with anyone from the royal lineage before, but this Chanyeol guy sitting in front of him was rather undignified with unruly, red hair and gawky, lanky limbs. Despite the fact that the vampires had embraced a more modern lifestyle, Chanyeol’s all powerful family made him the King among vampires across all of South Korea.

“How can I help you?” Chanyeol mused, taking another sip of his all time favourite synthetic and vampire-safe blend of coffee.

Yifan opened and closed his mouth, trying to gather his thoughts.

“I think I’m reincarnated.” He blurted instead, rather unsophisticated.

Chanyeol nodded with a small hum, “What makes you think that?”

“I saw my photo in an article recently, but I don’t remember the photo being taken and I’m fairly positive I also was not alive at the time.” Yifan replied, slowly gathering his thoughts and forming them into some sensical speech patterns.

“You very well were likely reincarnated, but I don’t know exactly what I can help you with here.” Chanyeol admitted, leaning forward on his desk. His dark red eyes darted all over Yifan’s face, searching for any sense of impropriety, but he simply could not read the man. It was like Yifan was a complete enigma. A code that Chanyeol, shockingly, could not crack.

“They say you can tell someone’s future.” Yifan stated before closing his eyes, “What about their past?”

Chanyeol blinked several times before sitting back in his chair, “Interesting.”

Yifan’s eyes snapped open, “What?” he asked, dumbly.

“I’ve not once considered delving into one’s past before,” Chanyeol’s thoughts manifest themselves into words and Yifan has a hard time determining if they're in the midst of a conversation or if Chanyeol is completely lost.

Suddenly, Chanyeol snapped his fingers, “I can’t help you.” he decided, finally making some solid eye contact with Yifan.

“I-” Yifan began to stammer, “Huh?”

“I’d love to,” Chanyeol admitted, “I truly would. You see, you appear to be very similar to someone from my own past, but I can’t read you, Yifan. I can barely see your future, let alone struggle to delve through your past.”

“What does that mean?” Yifan asked, very slowly in his confusion.

“I’m not entirely sure.” Chanyeol said finally, “Your immediate future is simple to determine. I knew you would be here today. I know that later this evening, you will finish writing a short paper and watch a docuseries. What I can’t tell is what you’ll do tomorrow, who you will talk to this week, or even where you’ll be in a year from now. Let alone if I can try to purvey your past.”

Yifan took a moment to absorb the information, slowly understanding that there must be something seriously wrong with him. This only spurred on his need to know more.

“Before you ask,” Chanyeol began, folding his hands on his desk, “I don’t know any more than you do. Or perhaps…” he trailed off and then snapped his fingers again, “Someone has been tampering with your mind, Yifan.”

A very bewildered expression clearly encroached on Yifan’s facial features, because before he could say anything else, Chanyeol was already speaking again. Yifan could only blink stupidly.

“I can’t read you, because someone has put a block on you, which will not allow myself, or subsequently, any other fortune-telling vampires to read you properly. There’s only one person I trust with perusing one’s mental blockades, but I don’t think he will particularly like working with you. Considering your face and all.” Chanyeol glanced at Yifan’s semi-offended expression and then laughed heartily, “Not that your face is bad, by any means, though you do look a lot like someone that killed one of his good friends many years ago. I’ll set up an appointment.”

Yifan floundered for a response to that, but came up short.

“Thank you, I think.” he said simply, before Chanyeol leaned back in his chair once more.

“It really is uncanny how much you resemble him.” he thought aloud again, “Part of me wants to lunge across this room and rip your throat out, but I feel that may be inappropriate.”

A dreadful moment of awkward silence filled the air before Chanyeol’s booming laugh brought the deafening horror of the situation crashing down.

Yifan could only muster a small smile and a breathy chuckle before he let himself out of the room

“It is truly uncanny.” Chanyeol hummed, before picking up his newspaper to return to the fun adventures of Calvin and Hobbs.

***

There was no doubt about it - Minseok did not want to leave Baekhyun’s side. Their hands intertwined in the comfort of Baekhyun’s office, hidden from prying eyes to enjoy their own private and well-deserved moment.

Of course, time was of no consequence to a vampire like Baekhyun, but every second he spent with Minseok felt like a lifetime. He just didn’t want to let go quite yet. He couldn’t, because what if?

“Baekhyun,” Minseok whispered. The response was a hum. “What do we do now?”

Baekhyun slowly let go of Minseok’s hand, reaching up to hold onto his shoulders instead. Their eyes connected. Minseok’s were full of worry and doubt. It pained Baekhyun, but he understood that complications would surely arise from this relationship in their current timeline.

He was the professor. Minseok was the student.

How could they possibly explain to any educational board that Minseok was Baekhyun’s reincarnated lover? The academic community was already torn on the idea of such phenomena. There was no general acceptance of such a development let alone any established guidelines of how to approach this kind of situation.

In their last life, Minseok was an adult with a stable job with no association to Baekhyun whatsoever. Would that be a valid reason for a student to have a relationship with a professor? Even if the scholars of the day had been able to prove their theses, what would the protocol be for situations like this one?

More and more questions began to swarm through Baekhyun’s mind and no matter how he tried, there was no simple answer to Minseok’s lingering thought.

What now?

A quick kiss on the nose had Baekhyun blinking in surprise at Minseok.

“You’re thinking too much.” Minseok sighed, “I’m sorry I asked.”

Baekhyun chuckled and kissed Minseok’s nose in return.

“We’ll figure this out.” Baekhyun decided, pulling Minseok
