Chapter 7

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil

Author's Note- Hi guys, guess who decided to finally stop being lazy. Okay I don't listen to girl groups so all of the female characters are OC's. If they have the same name as a girl group member it wasn't intentional. This plot is actually progressing guys, *tears of joy* and I still don't have any idea where it is going but at least it's going somewhere. Thank you firruz for helping me come up with names and for answering a few questions I had. When the author has questions about her own story... #dissapointment. Okay this has actually kind of turned into a rant, I think so yeah I am gonna stop now. Enjoy the read and for anyone who actually read this author's not, you are a very patient, wonderful people.

Howon tapped his foot impatiently, Dongwoo was taking way too long to show up. As he scanned his surroundings for Dongwoo a beautiful feathered black mask caught his attention. Wondering if it was an extra practice for the play he was a part of, Howon followed the boy wearing the mask. It was a time consuming process, hiding behind trees and such to make sure the other wouldn’t notice him. For some reason, walking in the open seemed unacceptable or maybe that was just Howon’s mind trying to spice up his life.  At the edge of the school’s property, the boy met with another. This one wearing a white mask, just as feathery. The masks only covered from forehead to upper cheeks, leaving their soft, moist lips uncovered. Their skin pale with the purple of bruises still very prominent, the marks showing despite the considerable amount of makeup caked on the discoloration in an attempt to hide it. Both boys hugged each other quickly before adjusting each other’s makeup and painting their lips a beautiful shade of rouge. They then proceeded to leave the university through the back entrance, entering a black limousine that was waiting at the side of the road. Howon making sure to memorize the license plate number before the limousine drove off along with the mysterious boys. When he finally got back to their meeting place, Dongwoo had arrived and was stretching. Dongwoo, noticing Howon’s presence, took his hearing aids out of his bag and fastened them on. “Where were you?” Dongwoo asked.

“Just checking things out, I thought there might be a rehearsal for drama today is all,” Howon answered.

“Oh,” Dongwoo vocalized, continuing his stretching and not making any further attempts at conversation.

“So why were you a late? You normally show up ahead of time,” Howon asked before realizing that Dongwoo probably wasn’t aware of the fact that Howon had waited before leaving. “I was waiting for you before I went to check on the drama rehearsal.”

“Oh, sorry about being late, you know that girl in our dance class, Areum? Well she was talking to me about stuff and I kinda lost track of time since it was a really interesting conversation,” Dongwoo answered. “So you are a part of the drama cast right?”

    “Yeah second lead,” Howon replied.

“Oh that’s really neat, you must be good at acting,” Dongwoo exclaimed, a childish amazement in his voice.

“No sherlock, they don’t make just anyone the second lead,” Howon retorted.

“Oh right you have a point,” Dongwoo murmured, his tone apologetic.

“Are you always this quiet or do you just get this way around me?” Howon asked, clearly annoyed.

“Thank you for helping me,” Dongwoo gushed, afraid Howon might be offended or think that Dongwoo wasn’t grateful. “It really means a lot, I just wish you’d actually gift me a glimpse of your smile, it looks lovely from afar.”

“We are working on staying on beat with music, as well as the different elements in music that can be choreographed too today,” Howon’s voice sounded rigid, as he tried hard not to let the surprise he felt at hearing that statement show. Dongwoo was weird that way, always complimenting Howon at the oddest of times in even odder ways. To hear so much praise from someone who Howon had flagged an enemy, to have one of the only person in his life who didn’t insult him be his enemy, well that made him feel something he didn’t want to dwell upon.

~

Sunggyu was drawing a blank. He knew that for Howon and Dongwoo to create a choreography he needed to compose a song first, but he just had no inspiration. He listened to song after song, in search of a melody that would inspire him to create a melody of his own, lyrics that would touch him enough. After listening to what felt like the millionth song, he decided to take a break and took out his phone. When he noticed about 30 missed calls from Jung Joo Ri he panicked and called back immediately.

“Sunggyu, I can’t find Soyeon, do you know where she is? Is she with you? She was saying something about visiting the college because she missed you,” Joo Ri sounded panicked, and her message was enough to scare the life out of Sunggyu.

“What do you mean you can’t find Soyeon? Did you search everywhere auntie? Even in her favorite hiding places?” Sunggyu was struggling to keep calm.

“I did look Sunggyu, I can’t find her, she isn’t in the house, not in the hiding places that I know of, I even tried calling her but she isn’t picking up,” Joo Ri was freaking out and that was more than enough to let Sunggyu know this was serious.

“I’ll look for her, I’ll find her,” Sunggyu assured, before ending the call and dialing Soyeon, how Joo Ri could lose the eight year old still a mystery to Sunggyu.

Woohyun stumbled on a grave that wasn’t there before which could only mean that they graveyard had grown bigger since the last time he visited. That thought itself enough to fill him with an odd sort of heaviness. He had memorized his way around though, and soon found himself at six graves, feeling around with his stick to find the tombstones and then tracing over the brial on the to ensure that they were the right people. Dongwoo had trimmed the grass a week ago, yet Woohyun was still paranoid that they had grown back out. Dutifully he felt around the grass to double check it and eliminated the few uneven blades that he could feel, a tedious process for a blind man. He was able to do it perfectly though, years of maintaining the graves making his technique perfect. He felt around for the bouquets he had brought in yesterday, locating the nearest trash can afterwards in which he could be rid of them. He then replaced them with bouquets he had bought that morning, placing them against the tombstone after yet some more groping around. “Hi Mom, Dad, Boohyun. I wonder how you all are doing, I wonder how heaven is treating you. Well, I would hope. However, there seems to be the never dying hope in my soul, that one day you will talk to me about your daily life in heaven just as I talk to you about my daily life on Earth. Or maybe you guys were reincarnated, living among animals and insects, closer to me than heaven could ever be and yet farther then if we were in different galaxies. I feel like that made no sense at all, don’t you? Life has been going pretty decently as of late. Sungyeol, Dongwoo, and I have been paired up with the three top students in the school, isn’t that cool? Sungjong and Dongjun are a part of our group too, but those love birds are the same as always, too wrapped up in each other too care about anything else,” Woohyun smiled after that. “Sorry Sungyeol hasn’t been visiting as of late, Auntie, Uncle, and Daeyeol. He just works so many job after school he has no time for anything else. I’ll try and drag him along for the next visit, no matter what he says about part time.” Woohyun stopped speaking as another voice cut through his apology.

“Hi Jihyun, I came to give you this,” the voice was female, and the way of speaking was immature, leading Woohyun to hypothesize that it belonged to a child. The person continued speaking and Woohyun in an attempt to make his way to the voice, ended up falling, his walking stick stumbling out of his hands. Woohyun felt around for his stick some more only to realize he was not able to find it. “Do you need help?” a voice, the voice from before, asked him.

“I do, is there a silver pole like thing anywhere here?” Woohyun asked.

“It’s right in front of you Mister…,” the voice trailed to silence, not knowing what to call him.

“Could you give it to me please, I can’t see,” Woohyun explained, his hand still failing to make contact with the stick.

“Sure thing, my name is Soyeon,” the voice, which was a slight bit too happy for a graveyard, assured. The walking stick pressed into Woohyun’s hand shortly after words.

“I’m Woohyun. How old are you Soyeon?” Woohyun asked, as he managed to hoist himself up with the help of his walking stick.

“Eight years old,” Soyeon answered. “Why are you here Mister Woohyun?” Woohyun couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at the attempt to formality.

“I wanted to say hi to my family. What about you Soyeon? Why are you here?” Woohyun inquired.

“Well today’s Jihyun’s birthday and so I wanted to give her presents,” Soyeon beamed,

“That’s really sweet, what did give her?” Woohyun asked, his own voice filled with an enthusiasm that matched the eight year olds.

“An autographed album by a singer that she loved a lot,” Soyeon sounded even more proud after saying that.

“Oh I see, what are you doing here all alone?” Woohyun’s concern for the child evident.

“I ran away from home to give it to Jihyun, Mom and Sunggyu were both too busy to come with me. I should probably go back now though, Mom would be worried,” Soyeon was about to leave when Woohyun stopped her.

“I know Sunggyu, we work on a project together, why don’t I call him to come pick you up?” Woohyun suggested, already pulling out his phone. Proceeding to speak into it as the phone’s technology then carried out the command. It was after all a special model designed to make use easier for blind people. Saying Woohyun was shocked was an understatement when he received the $300 as a birthday gift from Sungyeol last year. Woohyun snapped out of his thoughts when the phone was answered, though the majority of the call was mainly between Soyeon and Sunggyu, Sunggyu sounded more frantic than Woohyun could have ever imagined hearing him and ended the phone call with a demand for Soyeon to stay where she was until Sunggyu picked her up. After that Woohyun and Soyeon chatted avidly about both Kim Jihyun and Nam Boohyun.

“Sunggyu is here, I should be going,” Soyeon informed.

“Soyeon, what were you thinking? Leaving without telling Joo Ri auntie or me. What were we supposed to think? Do you know how worried we were? I called auntie and told her you were safe, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be in trouble when you go home young lady. What were you doing here all alone?” Woohyun could hear how frantic Sunggyu was and couldn’t help but find it sweet that he worried so much about the little girl. Woohyun decided to give the two some privacy and turned to leave only to be stopped in his tracks.

“Where do you think you are going, Woohyun?” Sunggyu’s voice was authoritative.

Woohyun stopped and answered, “Home. Dongwoo will have a panic attack if I don’t get home before he does.”

“By yourself?” Sunggyu’s voice sounded indignant. “I am not going to just let you walk home, you are blind for god’s sake....” Sunggyu was cut off by a snarky retort.

“I can’t remember needing you to treat me like a helpless teenage girl before today to get home safely,” Sunggyu flinching at Woohyun’s tone, not that Woohyun could have known the effect he had.

“Look, I am really grateful you found Soyeon and it’s getting dark out, plus you are pretty well toned so rapists would probably kidnap you. Just let me give you a ride to your house without the attitude, please. I get more than enough snark from Howon to last a lifetime,” Sunggyu pleaded and Woohyun relented when he heard how tired Sunggyu sounded.

“So you find me hot?” Sunggyu couldn’t help but scoff at Woohyun’s complete flip in personality, cheeks a little red at the accuracy of Woohyun’s query.

“I find you bipolar,” the older of the two retorted before Soyeon interrupted the conversation. After that Sunggyu dragged both Woohyun and Soyeon to his car. The rest of the car ride passed in silence from Sunggyu and amiable chatter between Woohyun and Soyeon. Soon though, the sound of tires against asphalt stopped, signifying that the car had stopped.

“Mister Woohyun,” Soyeon had been adamant to keep the formality, “I need to go home now, so bye.”

“Hey, Soyeon, can I ask you one last thing?” Woohyun inquired.

   “Go ahead,” Soyeon replied.

“Who was the singer of the autographed album?” Woohyun didn’t know why the question came out so hesitantly, maybe it was because he knew Sunggyu might be listening.

“Kim Ryeowook,” Soyeon answered before, leaving the car and rushing to her house. Or so Woohyun presumed from the unbuckling of the seat belt and the sound of the car door slamming shut.
