I had expected Baekhyun to be a smart rich boy. But no, I had underestimated him. He was far more greater than that. He was able to deduce our real identity only from our first encounter in class. Not any people could do that. A genius, that was the correct term to describe him. I actually thought he would be a potential police detective to be added to our team. I could imagine him as a police detective that surpassed me and Taehyung only in a short time. Of course, it was nothing more than an imagination. He was a successor of his father's company. It's impossible that he would join the police force in the future.

I gave him a look of amazement. That was one accurate deduction. "How do you know that?"

Baekhyun didn't answer, instead he stood up and walked over to my right side. I quietly watched him in confusion, wondering what he's doing. He reached down with his hand and raised my skirt, revealing my thigh with a gun strap over it. Before I could say anything, he took my gun out of its holster at a fast speed.

"Not just anyone can carry a handgun to school," he said while looking closely at my gun. "A real gun. Cool."

If he could see through it, could everyone see the gun too? I got worried in an instant. "Was it showing that much? The gun bulge I mean."

He sat back on his seat. "I don't think so. The students may think that the bulge is from something you put inside your pocket, a phone or something similar. They won't think that far. Also, I don't think they know how gun bulge looks like. Well, I know because my bodyguards usually carry them anywhere outside the school. This school is a gun-free zone, so even my bodyguards aren't allowed to bring their guns inside. But, the exception of that rule is only for active police officers. That's how I know you're a member of the police force. I thought you're a new bodyguard that my father hired at first, but the moment I saw your gun bulge, I knew you're a cop right away," he explain his deduction.

Yes, he's a total genius. I just confirmed that myself. After his deduction, I had a hard time to hold myself back from giving an applause. "Not bad. But, you have to promise me something. Don't ever tell anyone that we're cops, including your friends, bodyguards, your maids and butlers. Treat this as a big secret."

"I don't think telling anyone will benefit me." He paused. "It's four of you, right? You, Taehyung, Teacher Kim, and Teacher Do. But, is this necessary? I mean, getting the police involved?"

"Not sure. I haven't heard the full details. It's a top secret investigation."

"So, the only thing you know is that you're sent here to be my bodyguard?"

"More or less. I'll work hard to give you perfect protection."

Baekhyun scoffed. "I'm being protected by a girl."

Feeling pissed off because he underestimated me, I swiftly snatched my handgun which he held on since earlier and directed its point towards his face. I watched his face as he got a bit nervous, his eyes didn't leave the gun. The view made me smile in satisfaction. "Don't ever underestimate me."

He nodded and I put my gun back in its holster. My eyes fixed on the proposal letter that I was working on. "I think we should add an activity that's related to Christmas to be enjoyed together in the cosplay cafe. It's a Christmas event afterall. What do you think?"

"Whatever. Christmas isn't a big deal. It's troublesome." He continued writing, showing no excitement for Christmas at all. And he looked a bit lonely.

Why was that? Christmas was supposed to be fun. It's the time where you could gather together with your beloved ones to celebrate the big day. I always had fun back in the headquarters. We always decorated the Christmas tree together with the other police officers. After that, at dinner time, we would have a big feast, Superintendent Oh usually treated us. And the presents, we would exchange presents with each other too. It was a meaningful and wonderful day. Why would he think it's not a big deal?

"But, Christmas is fun!" I exclaimed.

"Being alone in the big mansion is no fun," he said. "It's horrible."

Looking again at his lonely and cold face, I just realized. It was exactly like looking at my own face in the mirror after my parents' death. That's how I recognized his expression. The fellow police officers who raised me filled my life with happiness, burying all my sadness. While he was living together with a busy father, which meant he's mostly alone the whole time. I also remembered his mother went missing ten years ago. I would never know what he went through alone all these years. He's alone since then and I got friends who treated me like their own family in the headquarters. We were different. I could never judge him.

This Baekhyun was an empty vessel, he's empty from all emotions. I believed the scar from his childhood hadn't been healed. Unlike me and Taehyung. We're lucky that we had been freed from our dreadful past, even though I got bad dreams about it sometimes, it didn't matter, I felt happy now. We'd been saved. And now it's time for me to save Baekhyun.

"Are you feeling lonely?" I blurted. It's something that I'd been thinking from the first time I had seen his face. Cold expression with a hint of loneliness.

He stopped writing and I could see his body tensed. Did I just say something wrong? Did I hurt his feelings? "None of your business. Let's just hurry and finish this."

I end

Chapter 27: Quite honestly, I expected more romance, but this whole entire story just makes up for it.
Like, baekhyun isn't a rich annoying chaebol. He's a smart one who can actually fight.
And Jimin and Joohyun are way too cute. The light of this story.

Chapter 27: Hi ! I just finished reading your story and I can tell you it's absolutely amazing !! I read some chapters yesterday and I was mostly interested in it because it has Baek Hyun in it . I thought it would be a typical romance story with the arrogant rich boy who fell in love with his bodyguard. But I was actually surprised and glad that you didn't mainly focus on the romance but in contrary on the investigation itself. I felt like I was watching a really good police movie and I was very immersed in it . I loved all the characters especially their friends :) I loved your ideas and I had a good time reading your story.
It made me wanna check out your other stories ;)
