Prologue
Against All GodsI have loved SeoHyun for so long. So long, I couldn’t even remember how long. All I know is I love her and I’m ready to do anything for her.
Over the years, she has had countless suitors. There was YongHwa, the campus heartthrob; KyuHyun, the silent yet boy-next-door cutie; JinWoon, the straight A student and class president; and other equally eligible men in our campus. I wasn’t threatened one bit, for as soon as they declared love for her SeoHyun tells them her classic “Sorry, but I think we’d best stay as friends” line and they’d all walk away dejectedly, heads hung low and with tears in their eyes.
It was for this reason that SeoHyun was nicknamed “the Heartbreaker”. She hates that nickname, she says, for it gives other people a negative impression of her. She didn’t mean to hurt them, she says, but she just has someone else in her heart.
Whenever SeoHyun tells me this, I smile, but deep inside my heart is broken into tiny little pieces.
She has loved someone for so long. So long, she says, that she couldn’t remember how long. All she knows is that she loves Him and she’s willing to do anything for Him.
Him. Yeah, that guy up there.
My biggest rival for SeoHyun’s heart is God Himself.
