Chapter 6
Things Change(Tao's POV)
"Everyone find your lab partner." I was beginning to loathe that sentence, every time Mr. Wu called it out I just wanted to curl into a ball and disappear, escaping the impending doom that was Byun Baekhyun.
After around ten minutes of working quietly, pretending like I hadn't yet noticed that the pint-sized tyrant was at my side, Baekhyun broke the silence,
"Hey Tao." he said in his aggravating, whiny voice.
"Yes?" I replied politely, trying to hide my annoyance,
"Here's my number, so we can work on this project outside of school." He said as he handed me a small piece of lined paper, torn from his chemistry notebook with his contact information scribbled on it. I folded it in half and stuffed it into a random pocket in my backpack.
"Okay." I said quietly, returning to my work. God, I would rather finish this project entirely on my own than work with this idiot.
I didn't talk or even look at him for the rest of class, but as Baekhyun was packing his things into his bag, he turned to me and smiled,
"Text me when you want to work on the project!" He chirped. That oddly cheerful reply was followed by an even weirder gesture, just as the bell rung he smiled at me and, get this, he waved goodbye to me. What the hell has gotten into him lately? Byun Baekhyun, the same person who called me " boy" and pulled my hair on a daily basis, was now smiling politely and waving goodbye to me? What is this? And suddenly I had an epiphany, Oh my god, he's ing with me. Baekhyun wasn't simply giving me his phone number and suddenly acting kind to me just for the sake of the chemistry project, maybe he was somehow trying to worm his way back into my life and report his findings to all of the imbeciles who adored him.
After coming to my realization i quickly disposed of the of the paper he'd given me. I made my way to the usual lunch spot and was surprised to be greeted by an empty picnic table. Chen and Xiumin had always been to the table first to meet me, but where were they right now? I didn't think much about it as I sat down and enjoyed the scenery.
It was almost spring so the trees were sprouting blossoms in amazing hues of vibrant pink and gentle white.
After what seemed about four minutes of taking in my beautiful surroundings I was joined by my two friends,
"Hi Tao. Sorry for being late," Xiumin apologized in his always quiet manner, "Seonsaeng-nim made us stay for a few minutes after class."
"Yeah, I figured." I replied as i pulled out the lunch my mom had packed for me this morning. I heard Chen mutter something, but I was too preoccupied with my food to listen. However, I was not too caught up in feeding myself to notice Chen grab Xiumin's hand, interlacing their fingers, I also noticed how red Xiumin's face became as he realized what Chen was doing as he quickly dropped Chen's hand, whispering something to him and motioning to me.
My eyes darted back and forth between them,
"What was that?" I asked, trying not to sound like an interrogator,
"D-don't worry Tao, it was noth-" Xiumin was quickly interrupted by Chen,
"Guess what Tao? I asked Xiumin if he wanted to date and he said yes!" Chen exclaime
