Cruelty (Sharleen )

Collection of broken dreams

Sharleen ended the call with a satisfied sigh. ‘ now there is hope for us’ she walked over to the forest green couch.  as she fell her eyes met with two portraits. one was of herself. her long light green hair that made her look like a mermaid. she admired the way her forest green eyes stood out. the picture reminded her of her home in Russia, where the picture was taken. her eyes shifted over to the second portrait. the picture of her opposite Shar. her smile faded as she studied the photo. Shar looked just like Sharleen, high cheekbones, medium sized lips, and almond shaped eyes that she got from her mother. however , the only thing different was Shar’s dark green hair and a deep shade of green eyes. the eyes oozed lifelessness. Shaleen felt a tear run down her face as she remember who she used to be. Shar was once part of the Sharleen people see today. as a matter of fact, if it wasn’t for Shar, Sharleen would have been the cruel person that Shar is. but because Sharleen changed the course of her life, she was given the element of kindness. Sharleen sighed as she layed down on the couch. she stared at the pastel green ceiling as she remembered her past.

‘Sharleen! poluchit' zdes'!’ sharleen’s grandmother hollered from downstairs. ‘prishestviye babushka!’ Sharleen called back. Sharleen ran up the stairs to meet her grandmother. ‘Vy mozhete pomoch' mne sbrosit' eti odezhdy.’ Sharleen smiled and nodded. ‘konechno’ her grandmother gave her a sweet smile. and that was what life was like for Sharleen. she lived with her grandmother in St. Petersburg, Russia ever since her parents died during a fire back in Moscow. Sharleen loved her grandmother as much as she loved Sharleen, her being the only thing left to remind the woman of her son. however, all this happiness ended when her grandmother died of a disease when Sharleen was only 6. that year she was sent to a distant relative where they put her through hell. everyday she was thrown around cleaning bathrooms, washing dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning rooms, doing beds. she did it all. every night she’d cry to the stars beginning to take her too but, that never came. every morning she woke up to the same cruel people, who took it a step further. they began to abuse her, they kicked her, spat on her, hit her, and pulled her hair. from there it only got worse. she became a victim of bullying and when she was 12 she was almost . she cried herself to sleep every night and hoped to one day wake up and be with her mother, father and grandmother in the sky. these thoughts took a terrible toll on her. she became cruel, at school she wasn’t the victim anymore, she was the bully. she became everything that happened to her at home not even caring about what others thought. one day she was walking home, and a strange man came up to her. ‘Ey, paren' prishel syuda’ Sharleen turned to look at the man. ‘kto vy dumayete, chto vy govorite’ she said with a sassy look. the man chuckled, ya dumayu, chto u vas yest' potentsial , chtoby prisoyedinit'sya k moyey komande'

he said. Sharleen was now intrigued. ‘kakaya komanda’ the man walked out of the shadows to stand in front of her. ‘chto ty’ Sharleen looked puzzled. ‘chto vy meyere v vidu’ he chuckled. ‘Vy pegas ili yedinorog’ Sharleen let out a deep breath ‘ya Yedinorog’ the man nodded. ‘Do you speak english?’ Sharleen nodded. ‘ok well my name is Ao. i’m chinese so i’m not very fluent in Russian.’ Sharleen hummed. ‘well then Mr. Ao what team are you talking about?’ Ao looked around and pulled her into the alley. 'Well, you see I found a book that carries the 6 elements of incongruity. The book came to me and gave me this.' He showed Sharleen his necklace with a dark orange gem in the center. 'I was given the element of dishonesty. now i must search for the other elements.’ Sharleen raised an eyebrow. ‘what does this book have to do with me?’ ‘well this book senses a specific person and the book goes to where that person is. the book found me back in Qiandao, it told me that i must follow the  book to find all the other elements and bring them together.’ Sharleen hummed in approval. ‘so if i take one what happened?’ Ao smiled and opened up the book. inside were 4 other necklaces with gems in different colors and 1 crown with a violet gem in the center. Sharleen took a closer look. ‘which one is mine?’ Ao shrugged. ‘which ever one the book says. just say your name and your element will come to you.’ Sharleen stood up straight and blinked. ‘trust me.’ he said. Sharleen took a deep breath and said, ‘Sharleen’. a few seconds later a necklace with a dark green gem floated in the air. Sharleen was puzzled. ‘what the-?’ she was cut off by the sudden attachment of the necklace. a wave washed over her and she felt different. ‘what just happened!’ Ao smiled and said, ‘relax the elements change the appearance of its possessor. also their name.’ ‘what do you mean their name?’ Ao sighed and frowned. ‘my name wasn’t always Ao. my real name is Yao, i was given this new name when i got my element.’ sharleen blinked. ‘how do i know what mine is?’ ‘oh thats easy! just look at the book!’ Sharleen looked back down at the large book. her now dark green eyes searched the page until her eyes landed on an empty space. ‘Shar.’ she said. ‘my new name is Shar.’ Ao nodded and gave her an envelope. ‘this is a plane ticket to Japan where the next element is. come with me and leave your miserable life. you wont have to suffer ever again.’ Shar stayed quiet for a while. she thought about leaving but then she remembered all the horrid things she's gone through. ‘count me in.’ she said. Ao nodded and said, ‘pack your things and meet me  at the Pulkovo airport at midnight. we’ll fly to Japan and many more countries to find all these elements. now hurry home and thank you.’ shar nodded and ran out of the alley. she ran past all her most favorite places. she was going to miss this place she thought as she kept running, tears falling down her cheeks. Shar ran up the stairs and started to pack her things it was already 10pm. she quickly made her way down the stairs and ran to the bus.  she made it to Pulkovo at 11pm. as she and Ao went through the traveling process she thought about her decision. however, when her flight arrived, all that worry went away. ‘ are you ready?’ Ao asked. Shar nodded. ‘as ready as i’ll ever be.’ and with that she bid goodbye to her home in Russia. when Sharleen opened her eyes she was breathing heavily, sweating, and crying. ‘that dream always haunts me.’ she said as she looked over at the portrait of Shar.
