Myungsoo opened his eyes. He was lying down on a bed, and there are 3 men in white jackets looking at him in panic. He stood up, but the men did nothing. His body passed through the men and his breath became heavy.

“No.... no… no….,” he held his head. He turned to where he lied and he found another Myungsoo lying down. “I am…. dead.”

It was a typical scene from lots of movies and dramas. Where a soul saw their own bodies lying dead. And that’s when they burst out crying realizing nothing he could do anymore. Realizing he needed to leave everything and everyone he loved behind. Most of them would be lost in despair, except people who are suicidal at the first place.

“Well, unfortunately yes,”  a man in black suit said. Myungsoo turned his head. “It is so rare to see an accepting reaction. Most people would have denied it.”

“Who are you?” Myungsoo asked. “Grim Reaper?”

The man smiled. “What a smart kid. My name is Sunggyu.” He paused. “Shall we go?”

“Wait a sec… Why am I dead?”

Sunggyu frowned. “You… don’t remember anything?”

Myungsoo shook his head. “No. I woken up knowing I am dead, that’s all.”

He experienced something similar with amnesia. Woken up in a hospital without knowing where he is and why he was there. Only that he’s not alive anymore.

“You really don’t remember?”

“If I do, why did I ask you?”

“Oh God,” Sunggyu held his head in despair. He raised his watch closer to his mouth, “L is found, I need help,” he talked to his watch.

“An apple watch?” Myungsoo frowned.

“Ha-ha. Very funny,” Sunggyu said emotionlessly.

“Hey, what do you mean by L is found?”

“Well, you’re L. It’s a nickname.”

“Why L? Why not M? or N? or… ?”

“Stop,” Sunggyu cut him off. “My friend will explain it.

Soon, another man in black suit appeared. “There you are. Our new man, L!” He looked at L and offered his hand.”

“Woohyun, explain to him,” Sunggyu said.

“Okay let’s start,” he flicked his finger and a transparent screen appeared in front of them. “So, you are dead, and I’m sure you knew about it by now. But the problem is, you don’t know why you were dead. Everytime a person died without knowing why is a code from God to let you live for another 100 days.”

“A code from God? 100 days? Does anything you said make sense?”

“In human sense, NO.” Woohyun looked at him. “Listen, you are able to live for another 100 days, Kim Myungsoo. And your mission is to find out why you were dead. We’ll give you a hint, but you will need to find out the rest on your own.”

“What kind of hint?”

“A name.”

“A name? And what, I am supposed to meet that person and ask why I was dead?”

“Oh God, not this again,” Sunggyu let out a deep sigh.

It’s tiring for Sunggyu to explain the whole thing over and over again. That’s one of the reasons he called his friend. Lot of people just don’t get it. Just imagine, when a man died, people grieve from the loss. And when he showed up alive and talking, asking why he was dead, people will go crazy. Thinking it may be a ghost, or whatever they called it. It doesn’t make any sense to say you were dead and asking why.

“You will need to approach that person, and slowly regained your memory, just like how a person having an amnesia,” Woohyun calmly said.

Myungsoo was silent. “Oh now I get it.”

“Good,” Woohyun said. “And here you can see the rules,” Woohyun pointed the screen displaying numerous sentences.

“That’s too long. Tell me the keywords.”

“People you knew won’t remember you are dead during these 100 days, and you should never say it.”

 “Okay, tell me the name.”

“Her name is Lee Hyunae,” Woohyun said as he flicked his finger and the screen changed, displayed a photo of a girl.

Myungsoo stared at it for a few seconds. “Oh hey, why do you call me L?”

“Oh yes, about that… Every year there are 26 people chosen and given this chance. We marked each person in alphabetical order, and apparently you are the 12^th person of this year which makes you… L,” Woohyun explained.  “Well then, good bye Mr. L, until we meet again,” he flicked his finger again and poof, Myungsoo is gone.

Myungsoo blinked his eyes. He was standing in the middle of the city. “Well, I assume all reapers can teleport people.”

A drunken man bumped him while singing and dancing.

Myungsoo tilted his head. “That explains it. I’m alive.”

He realized there is a backpack hanging behind his back. His guts told him to check what’s in there.

There are passports, ID cards, and everything he needs for a person to live according to law, and well, there’s also a debit card.

“Sweet,” Myungsoo took the card and looked around, wondering if there’s an ATM near him, and well, he found one.

His mouth dropped open at the amount of money displayed on the monitor. “I’m…. I’m a billionaire!” He exclaimed as he laughed in disbelief.

An exactly 1 billion Won is stored inside his card.

He withdraws some money, realizing he will need to buy lots of thing, including phone and renting a place.

He strolled the road, wandering where he can stay for the night. He stopped in front of a BBQ restaurant and he realized he was starving! Maybe that’s what it takes to be back from death.

He noticed a watch on his wrist. “This is the apple watch Sunggyu wore.” He tried clicking the watch with his finger and a girl photo suddenly appeared. It was Lee Hyunae’s photo that he saw previously. He clicked it again. “…will be at her friend’s birthday party tomorrow…” Myungsoo read the sentence displayed. The screen changed, showing time and location the party will be held.

He sighed. “I wonder what kind of person she is.”
