After Alice's classes had ended for the day, she found herself walking to the ICU. It was late and the sky was turning to a dim blue, and Alice stood very still as she stepped foot on the land where the building was located. A small sigh left her lips. Ever since yesterday, she had been very distraught. Even with Jackson spending the night at her house and making unneeded noise and playing music, Alice would still sit on the couch motionless, wondering about something. This behavior of hers was strange enough for Jackson to be concerned.
When Alice quietly arrived in Mark's room, Jackson looked at her with a concerned look on his face. She still had that same blank look she had on since yesterday after they had left the ICU for the day, and also after she had read another one of her letters.
"Are you okay, Alice?" Jackson asked, his tone gentle.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine," she replied, slumping in her chair and crossing her arms, bringing her hand to her lips, smoothing her lower lip with her thumb as she thought of something.
"Are you sure? Was it Jaebum? Did he hurt you?" Jackson inquired more, his tone rising as he mentioned his rival.
"What? No, it's not Jaebum," Alice quietly answered back, still in thought. It was Mark. As she sat at her chair and watched Mark with her sleepy eyes, she wondered something. How was Mark before this incident happened? "Jackson," Alice piped up, trying to sit up from her slumping position, "What was Mark like when he was awake?" she asked, her doe-like eyes blinking at Jackson. He was caught off guard at first, but answered promptly, "He was quiet, really smart, good in math, and studied hard. He was alone a lot." "How did you become friends?" Thinking back to about three years ago, Jackson grinned slightly when he figured out an answer, "We were both foreigners in a big college in Seoul so we kinda just clicked. Other people didn't really talk to him because he was quiet and didn't speak Korean as well as everyone else, but he spoke English and I did, too. He was like family for me-- we were close and we counted on each other." Alice remembered the field trip permit that Mark had with Jackson as an emergency contact. They must have been very good friends, and she smiled a bit at the fact. She looked over to Mark and her expression softened, "He doesn't have any family here, does he?" Jackson shook his head, "Nope," he then brightened, "But he had a girlfriend. I don't remember her name... She had short hair. She was tiny and really girly and soft-looking, perfect for someone like Mark. I had only seen her around once because she didn't go to our college. But dammit, I don't remember her name," Jackson said with a sigh. "Well, what happened to her? Where did she go?" Alice asked, wondering if contacting Mark's girlfriend would be the best thing to do. "I don't remember that either. I left the college and moved to a different district to focus on my dancing career after a while and Mark stayed behind. But he'd text me sometimes," Jackson replied, pulling out his cellphone and scrolling through his texts, "I can't find anything but I remember that he'd talk good about her sometimes. That's it." Alice nodded her head, he
