Chapter Nine

Learning the Past (Sequel to Fugitive)

“… Baekhyun, are you awake?” Sarang timidly asked, trying not to make too much noise as she dragged her IV stand with her.

Baekhyun was fast asleep and Sarang didn’t have the heart to wake him. She watched his sleeping face as his chest moved up and down and she could hear the air escaping from his nose. From his thick lashes to his white chin, Sarang stared with awe. She softly poked his cheek and smiled to herself. Even though Sarang and Baekhyun slept in the same room before and they were always very comfortable together, already knowing what each other’s sleeping habits were; Sarang felt a new rush of emotions. For a short period of time when they first met about three years ago, Sarang did, in fact, find Baekhyun attractive, but he was dating her best friend at the time. Baekhyun did break up with her and strangely enough the now ex-best friend never spoke to her again.

“Holy ,” Baekhyun was startled.

“Oh sorry,” Sarang quickly jerked her hand back. “Did I wake you?”

“Yeah, it’s fine,” Baekhyun stretched then flinched to his lower chest. “I guess I’m not fully recovered yet.”

“Let me see,” Sarang carefully unraveled Baekhyun’s blanket. Baekhyun’s entire stomach was bandaged tightly. She lightly put her fingertips on his wound and apologized.

“No need,” Baekhyun reached for her hand. “I’m fine.”

“But if I only listened to you, all of this wouldn’t have happened,” Sarang said, bitterly.

“But you wouldn’t have learned about your sister’s past. I think it’s amazing how you found out about things that even the police didn’t know. You even caught Kris, and he’s been avoiding the law for over fifteen years. If you ask me, it seems like it was worth fighting for.”

“I guess,” Sarang slightly pouted. “Thanks…”

“It’s no problem; I’m just stating the truth,” Baekhyun grinned, sweetly.

“Not that… the fact you risked your life for me... stupid, stubborn, old me.”

Sarang’s eyes began to water again and she looked away. After a temporary pause, Baekhyun reached for her arm and brought her into a tight embrace.

“I would do it for stupid, stubborn, old you again any day,” Baekhyun whispered.

As Sarang cried, she also laughed. Baekhyun pulled away and gave her a tender kiss. Just then the crew walked in. Sarang and Baekhyun quickly pulled away and complained about their bad timing.

“For a girl who just woke up, you work fast,” Chen teased.

“And for a guy, who just wanted to be alone, welcomes a girl in so quickly. I’m jealous, guys,” Lay pouted.

“C’mon over here then,” Baekhyun puckered his lips and opened his arms.

“Oh hell no,” Sarang blocked Baekhyun’s way by sitting into his arms. “He’s mine now.”

“Ohhhhh~,” everyone said in awe.

Sarang looked up at Kai, who then smiled at her and nodded his head. She smiled at him back and then went back to everyone.

Although you would think this was going to be a start of a happy ending, it wasn’t. It took only two days from the shootout for everyone at school to find out what happened. Sarang didn’t realize until later that the time she spent away from the Eat or Die Crew was the time all the girls decided they wanted to be the “new Sarang”. Sarang was in Baekhyun’s room for only ten minutes with the crew until six girls, that Sarang knew they hated her with a passion, came into the room with flowers. Somehow those girls thought they were already paired up with each one. Sarang smirked to herself when she saw the crew’s slightly annoyed faces. Sarang left and went back into her room. She later heard that the crew nicely sent them away. Even with her injuries, the girls became even meaner to her. They shunned her, spread rumors about her; how she’s involved with all of the crew, Mr. Tao, Suho, and Chanyeol, and just made her an outcast. But Sarang couldn’t care less; she had nine guys that loved and cared for her.

As graduation came around, Sarang didn’t know what she wanted to do. After Suho’s suggestion; she applied for the police academy. From the outstanding recommendation letters both Suho and Chanyeol had written, Sarang was able to join the police academy relatively quickly, even though the police academy asked harsh questions because of her involvement with Kris Wu and shooting multiple people dead. Luckily Suho pulled some strings and Sarang got in.

When Sarang got that acceptance letter, Sarang squealed with joy. After calming down, she felt as if she needed to meet one more person. She went to the federal prison and met Kris.

“Well well, nice to see you again,” Kris said, smugly.

“I wish I could say the same for you. How’re you doing here?” Sarang replied with the same attitude.

“Oh I’m bathing in luxury babe. Just how I like it,” Kris answered, sarcastically.

“I bet. Now enough with these stupid greetings; I just came to visit because I wanted to tell you something.”
“What is it?”

“I got into the police academy.”

“Well goodie for you,” Kris rolled his eyes.

“I just wanted to thank you for it.”

“…What for?”

“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t know what I would be doing with my life. Even though you tried to kill me, I wouldn’t have gotten in if it weren’t for you.”

“Well I guess we can put the past behind us,” Kris said, coldly.

“I guess so,” Sarang said, softly.

“Do you have any other things to say?” Kris snapped.

“Yeah I do. Did you love her?” Sarang snapped back.

“Who… Hyeji?”

“Obviously.”

“Ha. Sure, dear,” Kris smirked awkwardly, not making eye contact.

“I mean you took her in and trained her for years. You fed her and put a roof over her head.  That must’ve meant something… I mean you wouldn’t have done that just for anybody.

“True… but I did it because I needed a pet. You fed and give shelter to your dog, right?”

“You can love your pet too,” Sarang could sense there was more than Kris was showing.

“Yeah but she was a pet that also gave me pleasure,” Kris bluntly answered.

“Urgh you’re so gross,” Sarang shook her head.

Kris shrugged and smirked awkwardly again, “What can I say?”

After a long pause, Sarang stared right into Kris’ eyes, “… You really did love her, didn’t you.”

“… Sure.”

“… I wish you well.” Sarang stood up, bowed, and then walked away. That was the last time Sarang ever seen Kris again.

OMG authornim its finally here! I woke up to find this new sequel that got me squealing uncontrollably in my bed. Good Luck authornim! I'll anticipate this story very much! ;))

PS: A 14 year difference isn't that bad right? LOL. I'll ship Suho with the female lead in this story as weird as it sounds. I'm not much of a Suho biased, but yeah I love the way you portrayed his character in 'Fugitive' and a girl can hope lmao.

Hwaiting aurthornim! ;)
