Chapter 8
Always By Your Side
His day-out with Jinki's umma went fine. They shopped here and there, with Jinki's umma buying him every clothing he liked. He's a little bit tired because of some office work. But seeing Jinki's umma smile, he tells himself that everything is worth it. But during those times, he would think of his Minkyung umma and the times where they would hang out together.
He missed his own umma. Not his Minkyung umma, but his real one.
He just arrived at home and he knows Jinki is already back. And to his surprise, a dinner is already waiting for him.
Jinki emerged on the room, obviously fresh from the shower, in a wife beater and sweats. "Oh, hi Bummie. I already cooked dinner. You must be tired."
Kibum gulped as he eyed Jinki. "Uhmm.. K-kinda. I'll just wash up first then eat. You can start eating if you can't wait."
"Nah, I'm fine. I'll wait for you." Jinki smiled and Kibum couldn't form any words in his head.
He could just nod in return and walked towards his room.
"My umma called me earlier when you were in the shower." Jinki said as he took a sit in front of Kibum. "She said she had fun. I've never heard her being this happy before. Thanks, Bummie."
Kibum smiled in return and took a bite of his food. "It's okay. I am the one who has to say thank you. She bought me so many clothes."
Jinki chuckled as he said, "It's very typical of umma. Since she likes you very much."
The latter blushed from the older's words. "Yah. What did you and Taemin told umma about me? I'm really curious."
Jinki put his fingers to his lips. "It's a secret." He whispered.
"Yah! Yeonggam. Tell me." Jinki laughs at Kibum's expression.
"No. I'll take it to my grave." Kibum pouts at his words.
"Tell me..." He whined.
"You know, whining isn't gonna do anything." When Kibum was about to use aegyo, then older added, "Even aegyo."
"But tell —" He was interrupted by the sound of his phone, an incoming call.
He mentally cursed the one who calls at such a very important time. When he was just convincing Jinki to tell him something. And his anger raged when he saw the Caller ID. An unregistered number.
He walks a few meters away from Jinki. "Yeoboseyo?"
"Yeoboseyo? Kibum hyung?" A familiar voice was heard on the other line.
"Who is this?"
All his anger subsided when the person on the other line replied. "This is Minho, hyung."
He stiffened at the reply of the person, now known as Minho, his brother. "Hyung? Are you still there?"
He took a deep breath and choked out an answer. "Yes."
"I miss you, hyung."
Kibum's vision was blurred out by his tears. "I miss you too, Minho."
"Come back home. It was never the same without you."
"You know I can't. How is Appa and Umma?" He asked.
"Umma, she's not coping very well. She misses you so much. And Appa, he became very silent after you left. We barely talked after you left. Come back, hyung."
His heart broke as he heard Minho's sobs on the other line. "I'm afraid, Minho." He let out the words he never knew he could say.
"Umma wants to meet you, hyung. She isn't gonna force you to come back. But she wants you to at least meet her."
He ponders for a few seconds before replying. "Okay. I'll do this for umma."
"Go to our house at weekend. We'll be waiting for you. And don't be afraid of Appa. He already knows."
"Okay, I will."
"I have to go now, hyung. See you. Bye."
"Bye, Minho. Take care." Then he hung up the call.
He stood still in his position like a statue. And that's when Jinki realized something's not right about Kibum. And he knows it has got to do with the one who called him.
"Kibummie? Who's that?" He asked, but Kibum didn't seem to hear him. "Kibum? Who called you? Is it Jonghyun? Is he bothering you —"
"No, hyung. It's Minho, my brother..." He breathes in for a few seconds. "And he tells me to go come and meet them..."
Jinki could only hug him as Kibum's tears and the walls he had built for the past year fell down.
He's shaking in fear as Jinki parked the car to the last place he'll ever want to go back. Jinki noticed and held his hand, saying things that could comfort him. But a part of him knows that this day will eventually come. This is inevitable. And it was better to resolve things now than later.
"Jinki, I don't think I can do this... This is all too sudden." Kibum choked in between his sobs.
Jinki held his hand tighter, conveying a subtle message that he'll always be there for Kibum. "Ssh.. They just wanted to meet you again. It can't be that tough to talk to them, right?"
"Promise me something, Jinki." Kibum whispered and the latter hummed in reply. "Always be by my side."
Jinki hugged him and whispered. "I'll be always by your side. Even when the time comes that you'll get sick of my presence." He chuckled.
And that's Kibum knows, Jinki will always be there whether he likes it. Or not.
