Not so tough now, huh? [Part 2] (TaengSic)

Bag of Candies

Laughter from two girls in the seats in front of her made Jessica avert her gaze towards the two of them. She noticed the teacher halted in his lecture upon the noise the two girls were making and Jessica frowned upon that fact.

She slouched in her seat, far enough to be able to kick the back of the chair of the girl that was sitting in front of her.

The laughter died down and the girl spun around with an expression that looked like she would beat up whoever had kicked her chair. Jessica however wasn’t intimidated by it and just raised an eyebrow at the girl which made her turn back to the front, and resumed whispering with the girl next to her, the sound didn’t seem to disturb the teacher as much as the laughter had done.

Pleased with her work Jessica picked up the pen on her desk and began taking notes again, without the teacher getting interrupted or disturbed by the two girls that had been noisy before.

---

“Aaah, I don’t understand why Taeyeon and Yuri are so freaking loud in class. Why doesn’t the teacher just throw them out?” The black haired girl next to Jessica complained and looked annoyingly at the three girls that exited the classroom.

“Who knows?” Jessica said without looking up from her book.

“They just disturb the class.”

“They probably think it’s boring being here.” Jessica said nonchalantly.

“If they think that they shouldn’t show up at all and disturb us others that actually thinks it’s fun!”

Jessica looked up from her book and around the classroom as she just had remembered something. Her eyes searched for the trio she just had remembered about and not seeing them in the classroom she placed the book to the side and got up from her seat.

“I’m going to the restroom real quickly.” Jessica announced.

“O-oh, okay.”

Jessica looked left and right as she entered the school hallway. No sight of the trio, she bit her lower lip and started to make her way to the juniors’ classrooms.

She hoped she was wrong about what she was thinking the trio was up to but she had to make sure anyway. Her eyes kept looking behind her to make sure the trio wouldn’t suddenly show up behind her, but not seeing them she focused on getting to the juniors’ corridor.

She finally reached the right hallway and she began searching for that tall girl she had bumped into yesterday. She quickly glanced inside classrooms to make sure the girl wasn’t there as she continued down the hallway.

Maybe she’s a freshman? Jessica thought as it seemed like she wouldn’t find the girl on this floor. Her eyebrows furrowed as she continued towards the juniors’ lockers.

To her relief she caught the sight of the slim, tall girl she had met yesterday, and she was also relieved there was no sight of any seniors near her.

“Hey, Yoona!” Jessica called the girl that turned around towards her. A surprised smile appeared on the girl’s face as her eyes landed on Jessica’s form.

“Hi, unnie, what are you doing here?” Yoona asked surprised.

“Just checking up on you. The trio haven’t done anything to you today, have they?” Jessica asked and glanced around her to make sure the three girls wouldn’t suddenly show up.

“No, I haven’t seen them today, actually.” Yoona said and a relieved smile appeared on her lips, but Jessica noticed the girl couldn’t help but throw a cautious glance over her shoulder.

Hmm, strange. They can’t have lost interest. And I haven’t said anything yet either. Jessica thought and looked behind her. She turned back to Yoona and smiled at the younger girl as she patted her on the shoulder.

“Good, well, I just wanted to check up on you. I have to go back to my class now. If you need me you know where I am.” Jessica said and turned to leave.

“Yeah, but I don’t like going to the senior floor.” Yoona admitted and scratched the back of her head.

“That classroom I met you in yesterday. I’m always there during lunch break. Is that an okay place to find me?” Jessica said. Yoona’s smile brightened up upon hearing that and she nodded her head.

“Yup, I’ll show up if I need you unnie!” Yoona said.

Jessica did a thumb up towards the girl before she started to make her way back to the classroom. On her way to her classroom she looked outside a window, and saw three girls standing by a three that were located near the schools parking lot. She shook her head at the sight and continued her way to the classroom, not bothering about the three girls being late to their next class.

---

Jessica managed to catch Taeyeon, and just in time. She cornered the girl inside the girls’ restroom on the junior students’ floor. Her arms were folded and Taeyeon was covering in the corner like she was trying to get as far away from Jessica as she could. There was no sight of the two other girls part of Taeyeon’s trio gang.

“Where are Sooyoung and Yuri?” Jessica asked and leaned against the sinks in the restroom.

“I don’t know.”

“I thought they always were there to back you up.”

“Not always…”

“Not much of friends then, huh?”

Taeyeon was quiet and Jessica looked at the girl that had her gaze focused on the tiled floor in the restroom. A sigh left Jessica’s lips and she pushed herself off the sinks.

“Leave Yoona alone, you’ve done enough already.” Jessica stated and looked at the girl. Seeing Taeyeon didn’t look back at her she walked closer to the girl, gently grabbing Taeyeon’s chin when she was close enough, and made the girl face her.

“Do you hear me? Leave her alone from now on, alright?” Jessica said as she stared into Taeyeon’s orbs.

“Okay.”

Jessica released Taeyeon’s chin with a pleased smile on her lips. “Good.” She stated and her heels. She looked back at the girl one last time before she exited the restroom, finding her way back to the empty classroom in the hallway of the freshmen’s floor.

---

“Unnie!” Jessica stopped in her tracks as she heard a familiar voice call her. She spun around and smiled when she saw Yoona jogging up to her. The girl slightly panted and bowed towards her and the black haired girl that stood beside Jessica.

“I just wanted to thank you, for whatever you did, but they are leaving me alone now.” Yoona said and grinned.

“Ah, really?” Jessica said and nodded. “That’s good then. But you don’t have to thank me. I haven’t done anything.” Jessica said.

Yoona’s grin faded and the younger girl looked confused.

“Really? But how come they’re leaving me alone then?” Yoona asked and tilted her head to the side.

Jessica shrugged her shoulders. “Who knows? Maybe they lost interest in you.” Jessica said and smiled.

“Maybe. Well, I just wanted to let you know.” Yoona said her smile returning to her lips. Jessica nodded her head and glanced behind Yoona at a few other girls that seemed to be calling the girl. “Well, I have to get back to my friends. And thank you, even though you didn’t do anything.” Yoona said and began walking backwards towards her friends.

“It’s okay.” Jessica said and waved at the girl.

“Okay!” Yoona said and bowed towards the girl next to Jessica before she sprinted off towards her friends. Jessica turned around and began walking towards the school gate with her classmate by her side.

“What was all that about?”

“It seems Taeyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung were bullying her.” Jessica said.

“And she came to you for help?”

“We bumped into each other.”

“And she asked you for help then?”

“More or less.” Jessica said and shrugged her shoulders. The black haired girl began chuckling.

“What did she expect? That you’d tell Taeyeon to off and she would stop? Please, that girl doesn’t even listen to the teachers.”

Jessica shrugged her shoulders again and stopped by the bus stop. She turned to the girl beside her that was now shaking her head with an amused grin on her lips.

“What?”

“No, I just find it funny she asked you for help.”

Jessica smiled too and fixed the strap to her backpack while she let her eyes fall to the ground. She tried to not think about that she had in truth been of help, but she didn’t want to admit she was the one behind it as everyone would probably come to her when they had a problem with Taeyeon. And she knew it wouldn’t just be students, but also teachers. And Jessica didn’t feel like babysitting the girl as she had other things she wanted to focus on.

---

Jessica found Taeyeon sitting outside the apartment building she lived in. Her keys dangled from her fingers as her eyes landed on the girl she hadn’t seen since she had confronted her during lunch.

“You skipped all your afternoon classes.” Jessica pointed out and went past the girl to unlock the door.

“Y-yeah.” Taeyeon stood up from her seat and followed Jessica inside.

“Why?”

“I was tired. And no one was home.”

“So you went home to sleep?”

“Yeah…”

“I see.” Jessica stepped inside the elevator with Taeyeon following behind. She eyed the girl that was looking down on the floor of the elevator, fidgeting with her fingers. So different from the girl that usually walked around with her back straight, head high, and confidence oozing out of her being.

Jessica turned to stare at the door of the elevator instead and fixed her backpack strap again.

“Did someone wake you up?”

“The maid did.”

“Your parents?”

“At work.”

“Couldn’t the maid leave you to sleep then?”

“She didn’t know I was home and started cleaning my room.”

A smile formed on Jessica’s lips. “Well, I don’t blame her. You are supposed to be at school.” Jessica stated and exited the elevator when it had reached the seventh floor and Taeyeon followed her outside.

Jessica stopped outside the door that led to the apartment she lived with her parents and sister. She unlocked the door and entered with Taeyeon following behind. While she was taking off her shoes she made Taeyeon hold her backpack, which the girl didn’t protest to, and took off her shoes when Jessica was done and followed the girl to her room.

So different from how the girl was acting in school. Jessica had a feeling that Taeyeon would never act like this in front of the other students in school. And Jessica felt it was a pity, because deep inside she knew Taeyeon had a good heart.
