Chapter 10
What Exactly Am I to You?I jumped out of our black van the moment it came to a halt, not wanting to spend another moment breathing the same air as Lee Hyukjae. I wanted to create some distance between me and Hyukjae as soon as possible and I knew he felt the same way if the past few weeks have been anything to go by. We haven't exactly been very close and it was more than obvious we were trying to avoid being alone with each other as much as possible. We never went on dates that consisted of just the two of us, which wasn’t difficult considering we were in the midst of preparing for our comeback. Leeteuk had already joined us for some rehearsals but today is the day he officially becomes a Super Junior member again. Yes, today is the day his status changes from military to civilian.
We were all huddled together in front of a group of media and fans. Photographers were lined up neatly and hundreds of fans were holding banners, all ready to welcome our angel leader back. Excitement and anticipation filled the air. We all missed Leeteuk; it has been a two long years of pining for him.
Our wait was rewarded soon enough as Leeteuk made his first appearance from the military gates. Loud screams erupted and flashes went off continuously; everyone wanted a first glimpse of our much-missed leader. As I watched Leeteuk make his way towards us in large confident strides, not forgetting to wave and show his dimpled smile to all, I found myself welling up in tears.
“How are you my boys?” Those were the first words our caring leader greeted us with as he enveloped all of us in a big hug. As I heard sniffs, I knew I wasn’t the only cry-baby.
“Oh my dear Donghae, don’t cry. How have you been?” Leeteuk spread his arms and I was more than willing to let myself get comforted by his warmth.
"How do you think army has changed you?"
"What is the one thing you missed the most whilst you were in army?"
"What's the first thing you wish to do now that you're a civilian?"
The media shot Leeteuk one question followed by another, leaving him with no time to breathe. But being in the army for two years did not affect Leeteuk’s capability of answering every single one of them with ease.
I was standing there in full admiration of our leader when they suddenly directed the questions to the members instead and I was lucky number one.
"So, Donghae do you think Eunhyuk or Leeteuk made a better leader for Super Junior?"
What the hell? What kind of a question was that? They expected me to choose between them?
"I don’t think that's a fair question to Donghae. I chose Eunhyuk as my temporary replacement because I was confident of his capabilities. I believe we are both equally good leaders who are able to lead Super Junior to great success."
That effectively shut everyone up as Leeteuk received nods from all members as a form of affirmation to his statement.
The angelic aura surrounding our leader never looked brighter to me. Things were going to get better. I now had Leeteuk by my side; there will be no more lonely nights, no more terrifying darkness.
"So the video will feature a guy trying to win over a girl's heart. It's symbolic of how Super Junior is trying to win the hearts of the fans with this much awaited comeback. The girl will ultimately be a combination of your ideal girls; someone whom you think Super Junior as a “person” would fancy. The guy as mentioned refers to Super Junior so he will portray traits from each and every one of you."
Super Junior was back to our hectic schedule of preparing for our comeback the moment Leeteuk shifted back into the dorm. Today's long afternoon meeting was about the concept of our new music video. We had specially engaged a world renowned producer to shoot the video and he was here to have a brainstorming session with us so we could contribute ideas.
"Wow this sounds interesting."
"I think the idea is perfect."
"It's so appropriate!"
"It's so fluffy."
"Who's gonna act as the guy?"
"We should ask Song Seung Hun to do it. He's so charismatic and..."
"I think one of us should do it!"
"I want Leeteuk-hyung to do it! It's his comeback!"
"Siwon should do it! He's our visual."
"Aren't I the visual?"
"But Siwon is more handsome."
"Hyuk's the most handsome in the world," I regretted the words the moment they came out of my mouth. I wasn't guilty about the words per say since they were the truth but the fact that I had openly declared my infatuation with my fellow attractive band member in front of my brothers, the producer and his crew was utterly humiliating. It also didn’t help that my statement ended the much heated discussion just mere seconds ago; causing an awkward eerie silence to
