Scene 6

$1,000,000 USD Love!

The first day at school as Kai's pretend girlfriend had come to an end. Moonji returned to their shared residence, washed up, and changed into her new pyjamas. She stood before the dresser mirror, her reflection adorned with makeup and her beautiful wig secured in place. "You are so gorgeous!" she exclaimed to herself, offering a compliment to the reflection staring back at her.

Exiting her room, Moonji noticed Kai sleeping peacefully in his own much larger room. She couldn't help but peek inside, her eyes scanning the vast space. Then, her gaze fell upon the shopping bags containing their couple items, carelessly discarded in the trash. Moonji couldn't resist tiptoeing over to retrieve the bags.

"Ommo~ this rich boy is so arrogant," Moonji remarked to herself as she tidied up the shopping bag. She pulled out the couple-plush toys and placed them tenderly on her own bed, right next to the others. Their cuteness brought a smile to her face. She decided to add a couple-pillow to the living room sofa, turning it into a makeshift couple cushion.

Moonji's culinary enthusiasm took her to the kitchen next. She peered into the fridge and exclaimed, "I am going to cook!" With an apron on, she set to work, preparing a meal of chicken stew with grilled mushrooms and fried rice.

Kai, drawn by the delightful aroma, entered the kitchen with dishevelled hair. "What are you doing?" he asked, surprised by her culinary endeavours. Moonji, spoon in hand, retorted with a question, "Didn't you see what I am doing?" She noticed him sniffing the food and quickly set the table for both of them.

"It is good," Moonji complimented her cooking as they began eating. Kai, nodding in agreement, seemed focused on his meal and didn't lift his head. "Could you cook for me daily?" he asked between bites. His face shows full appreciation for her cooking. Never in her life had someone ever appreciated her this much just for cooking. She chuckled in amusement and agreed, flashing a playful wink at him. The man rolled his eyes when she winked at him.

As they continued to eat, Kai couldn't help but notice Moonji's still-present makeup. "Hey, what's with the makeup? You're in the house right now. Nobody's here," he remarked, puzzled by her choice. Moonji, however, explained, "I can't show my face to you; I'll look ugly and scary without makeup." She added, "I can't imagine you'd want to see me without my wig either."

"Whatever," Kai replied dismissively, but Moonji had a retort ready. "I think you're the one who doesn't want to see me without makeup," she teased. Kai smirked and provoked her by saying, "Yeah, sure, just accept the fact that you are ugly. I can't imagine if anybody will fall for you. Urgghh, it will be so disgusting."

Moonji's response was swift and loud. "Yahh!" she exclaimed with a high-pitched voice from the living room. Kai then continued, "Look, just accept the fact that you are ugly. I can't imagine if anybody will fall for you. Urgghh, it will be so disgusting." Moonji shook her head playfully, "Nope, I knew I am pretty most of the time. That's why you are willing to pay so much to date me," She replied. Moonji enjoyed the playful banter as she left the dining table, leaving Kai with an embarrassed expression.

After doing the dishes, Moonji joined Kai in the study room. She asked if she could study with him, and they spent hours studying side by side in silence. Kai looked up from his book and saw Moonji, pencil still tucked behind her ear, fast asleep with a contented smile on her face. Her mumbling in her sleep amused him, and he couldn't help but chuckle.

Moonji awoke later and quietly left the study room, returning to her room to prepare for school. At school, she decided to spend some time alone in the library, opting not to accompany Kai to his club meeting. In the library, she was approached by a fellow student named Baekhyun.

"Hey, you're Moonji, right?" Baekhyun asked with a curious glint in his eyes, to which she nodded with a bright smile, her wig perfectly in place. He wasted no time getting to the point, inquiring about her relationship with Kai and whether it was a paid arrangement, his words laced with a playful yet probing tone. Moonji denied any monetary involvement but chose to keep the details of their meeting a tantalizing secret.

Baekhyun, known for his persistence, leaned in a bit closer, his lips curling into a mischievous smile. "It's a secret," Moonji repeated coyly, her eyes twinkling with playful intrigue. Their conversation took a flirty turn, with Baekhyun teasing Moonji about her flirtatious intentions. His laughter danced through the library as they exchanged these light-hearted jabs.

Moonji, never one to back down, decided to delve into Baekhyun's appearance, her curiosity piqued. She raised an eyebrow and wondered aloud, "Are you actually a guy or a girl?" Baekhyun, taken aback by her audacity, blinked in surprise before stammering, "Excuse me?"

Moonji, realizing she might have been too forward, attempted to backtrack and offered a quick apology, not wanting to hurt his feelings.

"Are you flirting with me right now?" Baekhyun, regaining his composure, decided to play along and accused Moonji of flirting with him with a teasing grin. Moonji didn't miss a beat and retorted, "I think you are the one who is flirting with me?" She playfully pushed Baekhyun away, leaving him slightly bewildered yet entertained. With a wink and a warning not to come near her, Moonji left him with a hint of mystery, the encounter adding a touch of intrigue to her reputation.

Baekhyun couldn't help but laugh heartily as he watched Moonji make her exit from the library. He whispered to himself, "She is unique."

Wandering the school alone, Moonji eventually stumbled upon a lounge room on the topmost floor, labelled "EXO" on the door. She entered the room, discovering that it was adorned with everything related to the group EXO. As she began to explore, she heard voices approaching and quickly hid behind a chair, hoping not to be seen.

Two boys entered the room, one of them named Luhan. They discussed Kai's new girlfriend and how it seemed unusual given his prior relationship with Dasom. Moonji listened silently as they continued to speculate about her. Luhan even commented on Moonji's appearance, deeming her lower class and unattractive.

Once the boys left, Moonji emerged from her hiding spot and stretched her body. She left the lounge room and headed to the parking lot, where she spotted Kai conversing with the EXO members. Moonji paused, standing at a distance, watching Kai intently.

Moonji roamed the school's hallways alone, her steps light and her eyes curious. Her every move, even in solitude, was accompanied by her self-conscious awareness. She stumbled upon a lounge room on the topmost floor; a golden placard reading "EXO" adorned the door. Pushing it open, she ventured inside, and her eyes widened at the sight that greeted her. The room was a shrine to the popular kids in the school. Posters covered the walls, and memorabilia was displayed with utmost care.

As she explored the room, her heart skipped a beat when she heard footsteps approaching. Panic surged through her, and she instinctively ducked behind a row of plush chairs, her wig and wig askew in her haste. She crouched there, breath held, fervently hoping to remain hidden from whoever was entering.

Two voices reached her ears, and she recognized one of them as Luhan, an EXO member. They began discussing Kai's recent relationship development. Moonji's curiosity got the better of her, and she strained to listen.

"Did you know Kai got a girlfriend?" The first voice asked.

"Yeah, and I heard Dasom rejected him because she saw him more as a brother and friend, so she chose to be with Baekhyun instead of Kai because she's genuinely into Baekhyun. It's complicated. But I'm happy Kai has a girlfriend now," Luhan explained when they delved into the intricacies of Kai and Dasom's relationship. Luhan acknowledged Kai's newfound girlfriend but expressed bewilderment over it, considering that Kai had been rejected by Dasom not too long ago. He remarked that Kai had always maintained a platonic relationship with girls, with Dasom being the sole exception.

Curiosity still lingering, the other person asked, "Is his girlfriend beautiful?"

Luhan chuckled before responding, "Not really. She looks like she's putting on a facade, you know? With that fake hair and the heavy makeup, she comes off as insincere. Honestly, she's one of the worst and seems like she's from a lower-class background." Their laughter filled the room as they shared this less-than-flattering assessment. Moonji's heart sank as she listened in on the conversation, a growing sense of pity for Kai swelling within her.

"I wonder what Kai sees in her," Luhan mused aloud, his words weighted with a hint of scepticism. "Or maybe what Suho said is true, that he might have paid someone to be his girlfriend. I heard Baekhyun even dared Kai to start a relationship after Dasom rejected him," he added, revealing another layer of their friend's involvement. Laughter erupted between the two boys as they found humour in the complexity of the situation. Moonji couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for Kai as they ridiculed his girlfriend, which is her.

As the boys departed the room, Moonji seized the opportunity to stretch her stiff limbs and discreetly exit her hiding spot. She made her way out of the lounge room and headed toward the parking lot, where she had a feeling Kai would be. Standing there, she observed Kai engaged in a conversation with the EXO members. Her steps halted as she watched him, her gaze a mixture of admiration and concern. Sensing her presence, Kai left his group and approached her.

"Where have you been?" he asked his tone a blend of annoyance and a newfound fondness as if he couldn't decide which emotion was more prominent.

"I was in the library. Why?" Moonji replied with a playful twinkle in her eye, a mischievous edge creeping into her voice. "Kim JoongIn-sshi, I think you miss me, huh? Am I right? You are missing me," she declared with theatrical emphasis, drawing the attention of nearby EXO members.

"Stop embarrassing me," Kai whispered in a voice tinged with exasperation as he leaned closer to Moonji. She responded to his gentle scolding with a sweet wink, a silent promise of more mischief to come. Kai sighed heavily, a reluctant smile playing on his lips. "Okay, let's go home." He turned to walk towards the car before pausing. "What do you want to eat for today?" he inquired, his smile growing more genuine.

Moonji's heart warmed at his words, and she stepped beside him, their shoulders brushing lightly. She considered his question with a thoughtful expression. "Kimbap? Seasoned squid? Bulgogi? Spicy chicken?" she offered playfully, mirroring his earlier enthusiasm with a smile that reached her eyes. The two of them walked away together, leaving the curious gazes of EXO members behind them as they embarked on another day of their unique charade.
