Scene 17

$1,000,000 USD Love!

"Where are we going?" Moonji asked, her eyes shifting between the passing scenery outside the car window.

Kai couldn't help but flash her a charming grin, his fingers confidently gripping the steering wheel of his sleek Maserati. "EXO is throwing a celebration for finishing our last paper," he replied with a spark of excitement dancing in his eyes.

"Yah~ Kim Jong In-sshi, I'm still in my school makeup. It's not suitable for a party!" Moonji exclaimed, her melodious voice carrying a playful note.

Kai let out a good-natured sigh, fully aware that Moonji was about to embark on one of her notorious nagging sessions. "You look okay," he offered with a hint of admiration in his tone.

"...At least let me change into a casual outfit..." Moonji's gentle plea was accompanied by a subtle smile, her eyes briefly meeting his. Kai couldn't help but smirk, appreciating her playful spirit. He knew she would never cease to nag, no matter the situation.

As they arrived at their destination, Moonji peered around the woods with curiosity. "Is it here?" she inquired, her eyes reflecting a mix of wonder and excitement.

Kai nodded with a grin, and without further ado, he started walking into the woods. "Come on!" he called out to her, his voice tinged with anticipation, inviting her to share in the adventure.

Moonji hesitated for a moment, her gaze fixed on Kai. "It looks scary. I think I'll stay in the car," she admitted, though her eyes betrayed a glimmer of curiosity and a hint of yearning for his company. She made a playful attempt to open the car door but found it locked, much to her dismay.

"Kai! Unlock the car!" she exclaimed, a mix of frustration and an underlying fondness for his antics evident in her voice. She couldn't help but stomp her feet on the ground, her heart racing with both irritation and anticipation of what lay ahead.

Kai, his poker face concealing a well of affection, maintained his cool demeanour. "Never! I know you're going to steal my car," he replied with a playful arrogance that only added to the allure of the moment.

"What!? I don't even know how to drive!" Moonji declared with a melodious laugh, her eyes alight with a playful challenge. She sprinted toward Kai, who fought to keep a straight face. She playfully reached for his hand as she reached him, but he dodged it.

"Let me hold your hand!!!" Moonji playfully hit Kai's back, her laughter tinkling through the air.

"No touching. I hate it," Kai declared in a flat tone, though a glint of amusement shimmered in his eyes as he continued walking.

"You hate it? Oh? What to do? I love it," Moonji replied with an unabashedly cheesy smile, seizing Kai's hand once more, determination in her eyes. This time, Kai didn't pull his hand away. Instead, he allowed her fingers to intertwine with his, their hands fitting together like a perfect puzzle piece.

"Yah! I'm going to touch you anyway! I don't care," Moonji declared playfully, a spark of mischief in her gaze as she held Kai's hand firmly, her fingers intertwined with his. She was unapologetically determined to bridge the gap between them.

"Don't get lost," Kai teased with a soft smile, his tone carrying a hint of affection. He continued to lead the way, the anticipation of what lay ahead adding an extra layer of excitement to their adventure. After a few minutes, a breathtakingly beautiful lake appeared, glistening in the dappled sunlight not far from where they stood.

"Wah!!!!!! It feels like we're on a honeymoon!" Moonji exclaimed with infectious excitement as she ran towards the glistening lake, gently tugging Kai along with her.

"Honeymoon, huh?" Kai couldn't help but smirk at her enthusiasm.

She playfully elbowed him and teased, her eyes sparkling like stars, "You're going to propose, right? Admit it!" Moonji poked his arm while batting her eyelashes, her words filled with a playful tease.

Kai chuckled warmly, his heart dancing to a melodious tune. He gently pushed Moonji's face away from his with a teasing grin and said, "I must be insane if I propose to you."

Their banter was interrupted by the joyful exclamations of the EXO members as they ran towards the lakeside, adding to the picturesque scene. Moonji's laughter filled the air, and she fell into a happy silence as the EXO members approached.

"Hey, Moonji, the other girls are over there. Help yourself," Sehun kindly pointed to a cottage not far away, inviting her to join their gathering. With a nod and a grateful smile, Moonji left the boys to their fun, and her heart was still lit with the warmth of her teasing moment with Kai.

The girls are the EXO's member's girlfriends. Moonji bowed at them and gave them a friendly smile.

"The is here!" They laughed and looked at her with a disgusted look.

"How dare her to be here after what she did to Dasom and Baekie?!" One of the girls said and gave her a deathly glare. Didn't want the girls to disturb her happy mood, Moonji took some wood and started the fire at the fire pit.

"She must be satanic. Look how good she started the fire." They laughed at her again. "Those thick make-up are worse."

"Hey, girls!!" Chanyeol jumped out of nowhere and smiled like a happy virus he had always been.

"Moonji, I heard that your cooking is fantastic. Could you cook this fish for us?" Suho smiled and handed Moonji a bucket of fish. With a nod of gratitude, she accepted the bucket, her excitement growing at the prospect of showcasing her cooking skills to Kai and his friends. Moonji headed to the cottage's cute kitchen. The rustic charm of the place, complete with quaint wooden cabinets and a vintage stove, added to the homey atmosphere. She started preparing the fish and cooking, as her mood was good.

"Let me help you." A fellow girl entered the kitchen, extending a friendly smile towards Moonji. She offered to help, and as they worked together, an accident occurred. In a moment of mishap, the girl accidentally pushed Moonji towards the hot griller, causing a burn on her right hand. Moonji let out a soft sigh, her expression a mixture of pain and frustration, as the girl quickly apologized, "Oh God, I am so sorry." and made a hasty exit from the kitchen, leaving Moonji to tend to her injury.

"Kai, the food is done," Moonji said, distracting everyone's attention from their conversation. Moonji even set the table for them.  Kai sat on her left while Baekhyun sat on her right. "Thanks for the food." Kyungsoo chirped, and everyone started to eat. "Aren't you eating?" Kai asked Moonji, watching her, not even touching her food. She nodded and took her chopstick. "You cook pretty well," Baekhyun said and continued to eat. Moonji didn't talk to Baekhyun for the last three weeks after the rumours about her and Baekhyun. Baekhyun also started to distance himself from her.

As the dinner drew to a close, Moonji gathered the dishes and made her way to the sink in the cosy cottage kitchen. She was soon joined by Baekhyun, who entered the room with a stack of empty plates in his hands. His presence brought a genuine smile to Moonji's face as she looked up from the dishes.

"Hey, how are you?" Baekhyun asked in a gentle tone, and concern etched across his features as he noticed her injured hand.

"I'm fine," Moonji replied, her smile sincere and warm. "Aren't you out playing with them?" Her curiosity about his absence was evident.

Baekhyun shook his head. "No, you obviously need help," he said, his eyes softening as he reached for a small tube of ointment. Gently, he applied it to the burn on her palm, his touch careful and tender, before neatly placing a bandage over it. His genuine concern and his actions spoke volumes about his character.

"Now let me do the dishes!" Baekhyun's enthusiasm was infectious as he looked at her with a bright smile.

Moonji, still feeling awkward about their past misunderstandings, couldn't help but ask, "We are just friends, right? Nothing between us, right?" She stared into Baekhyun's eyes, seeking clarity.

Baekhyun, while continuing to wash the plates, paused for a moment to meet her gaze. "I'm sorry for giving you a hard time," he began, his voice soft but sincere. "I just wanted to escape from Dasom. And one more thing, I'm sorry, Moonji, but there's nothing between us two because I love my relationship with Kai more than anything else."

Moonji couldn't help but smile at his honesty and the sincerity in his words. "Let me help you dry these plates," she offered, grabbing a dry towel and joining Baekhyun in the task; the kitchen filled with a sense of camaraderie and understanding that had been missing for a while.

Baekhyun and Moonji left the kitchen, making their way to the campfire where the group had gathered. As they settled down, the warm glow of the campfire flickered around them, creating an inviting ambience.

Kai's arrival, however, brought a sudden change in the atmosphere. His face was contorted with anger as he questioned their activities. "What are you guys doing in the kitchen?" he demanded, his tone sharp.

Baekhyun, always straightforward, replied calmly, "Doing the dishes and cleaning up things, Kai." He took a seat on a nearby log, trying to keep things as normal as possible.

But the situation escalated when one of the girls chimed in accusingly, "Stop covering things up. I saw you guys holding hands."

Kai's disappointment and frustration were palpable as he turned his attention to Moonji. His trust had been shaken, and he couldn't hide the pain in his voice. "I never thought that you were going to disappoint me like this, Ra Moonji," he lamented, standing up and gathering his belongings, clearly intent on leaving.

In a desperate attempt to salvage the situation, Moonji hastily grabbed her jacket and sprinted towards Kai. Her heart raced as she caught up with him just in time, preventing him from driving away.

"Kim Jongin, you need to listen!" Moonji implored, her voice trembling with urgency as she attempted to explain what had transpired. She could see their relationship hanging by a thread, and she couldn't bear the thought of losing him.

But Kai's frustration got the best of him, and he exploded, "Just shut up!!! Before I drop you off my car." His hand hit the steering wheel with frustration as he navigated the car in silence, heading back home.

Moonji remained silent during the entire ride, her mind racing with fear and uncertainty. When they finally reached their penthouse, Kai's anger had yet to subside. He stormed inside, his voice laced with anger as he ordered, "Pack your stuff and leave!"

Panic surged through Moonji as she realized the gravity of the situation. She couldn't bear to lose Kai, and in a last-ditch effort to make him understand, she grabbed his hand, her eyes pleading. "Wait, what??? Kai! You need to listen to me first!" She couldn't let go without a fight, not when their trust in each other was at stake.
