Scene 11

$1,000,000 USD Love!

The school day had ended, and Moonji wandered through the corridors in search of Kai. He told her to wait for him at his class, but it turns out Moonji's class ended a little late that day and Kai's class is already empty.

As Moonji reached the car park, it was time to head home. She waited for Kai next to his striking red Ferrari, engrossed in her accounting book. With her upcoming accounting exam just two weeks away, studying was a top priority. An hour passed, and there was still no sign of Kai. Growing restless, Moonji decided to search for him within the school premises.

As Moonji roamed the school grounds in her relentless quest, fatigue painted her features. She found herself near the emergency fire staircase, its metallic structure gleaming in the harsh school lighting. The stairwell seemed to exude an eerie, almost forgotten ambiance. The faint echoes of footsteps resonated through the dimly lit stairwell, adding to the eeriness of the place.

With a sense of desperation gnawing at her, she swept her gaze toward the distant car park, where the waning sunlight cast elongated shadows. Her heart plummeted as she beheld the sight of Kai and Lee Dasom strolling side by side toward their respective cars. Panic welled up within her like a rising tide. Moonji had searched frantically for him, only to find him basking in the company of Dasom.

Driven by a surge of determination, she hastily descended the staircase to reach the car park, her steps hurried and unsteady. Her misfortune struck at the final step as her foot slipped, the abrupt impact sending a searing jolt of pain through her ankle. Curses tumbled from her lips, barely audible over the dull thud of her footsteps.

Despite the agony coursing through her, she limped determinedly toward Kai's car. His expression upon seeing her was anything but welcoming; bitterness etched onto his features. To make matters worse, Dasom remained seated inside the car, her presence only adding to the tension.

In a valiant effort to conceal her distress, Moonji forced a smile onto her face. She couldn't bear for Kai to discover her injured leg. His voice, however, sliced through the already tense air like a dagger.

"Where were you?" His words held a stern edge, his gaze unrelenting.

"I'm here now. Let's go home!" Moonji replied with a childlike lilt in her voice, her tone an attempt to soothe the palpable tension.

"You're late!" Kai's voice grew sharp, and Dasom seemed to relish the tension in the air, her smile expanding.

Undeterred, Moonji retorted, "You don't need to shout, Kim JongIn-shii," in an attempt to lighten the mood. Despite her efforts, Kai's annoyance remained palpable, casting a shadow over their impending departure.

As they neared Kai's car, Moonji moved toward the passenger side, anticipation bubbling within her. She expected Kai to unlock the door, granting her access. However, her expectations were brutally shattered when Dasom, with abrupt finality, entered the vehicle and forcefully slammed the door shut, leaving Moonji standing there, bewildered.

"Just wait here for a few minutes. It won't be long because I need to send Dasom home; her car is broken," Kai explained, entering the car before it sped away.

Frustration simmered within Moonji. She couldn't fathom why Kai had left her in such a state, only to spend time with Dasom in her absence. Her mind churned as she contemplated the impracticality of Kai's expensive car, which could only accommodate two people. Moonji cursed under her breath.

With no other option, Moonji began her slow, painful walk home, carefully arranging her steps due to her sprained ankle, which had swollen and turned an ominous shade of red-blue. Tears welled up in her eyes from the pain.

"Moonji noona!" a voice called out from behind. It was Kwangmin, Moonji's junior in the accounts extra class. Moonji managed a smile despite the agony.

"I thought you'd already gone home," she replied, grateful for the company.

"I saw everything," Kwangmin said, concern etched on his face. "He shouldn't have treated you that way. You waited for him for an hour, but he left you here. What kind of boyfriend is that? Come on, let me send you home."

Moonji winced as Kwangmin grabbed her hand, attempting to walk quickly despite the pain. "Auch! I can't walk this fast," she protested, but Kwangmin seemed determined to assist her.

"Sorry, Noona. What's wrong with your leg?" Kwangmin's eyes widened as he glanced down at Moonji's injury. Without warning, he scooped her up into his arms, carrying her like a bride.

"Put me down, Kwangmin. I can walk!" Moonji protested, but Kwangmin paid her no mind, sprinting towards his car with her in his arms.

"Hey, drive carefully, Kwangmin!" Moonji pleaded as he sped down the road. Kwangmin eventually brought her to a clinic, where the doctor examined her injury.

"She injured her leg badly. It looks like she was running on uneven surfaces. This is a second-grade sprain; her ligament is partially torn. Fortunately, there are no broken bones, but the muscles and tendons are badly injured. Come back in two days for injections to help with the muscle pain," the doctor explained while tending to her leg. Kwangmin covered the medical expenses.

"Oh no, Kwangmin, I could have paid the bill. You didn't have to do that," Moonji protested.

"This is nothing, Noona. You helped me with my accounts; thanks to you, I got an A in the exam," Kwangmin replied, lifting Moonji in a bridal-style carry once again to transport her to his car. As Kwangmin's car approached Moonji's expensive condominium, she feigned sleep, not wanting to face Kai.

Kwangmin spoke to the front desk to obtain Moonji's address, all the while holding her securely in his arms.

Upon Kai's return home, he was taken aback to find Moonji in the arms of a stranger. His shock was evident as he exclaimed, "Ra Moonji!"

Kwangmin signaled for him to keep quiet, whispering, "Shhhh, she's sleeping."

"Yes, I can see that," Kai replied sarcastically, his mood growing more sour by the second.

Kwangmin continued, moving into the house and laying Moonji gently on her bed. Kai watched from the doorway, clearly displeased with Kwangmin's actions.

"My poor Moonji," Kwangmin murmured, planting a kiss on her forehead and her cheek affectionately.

Kai couldn't contain his frustration any longer, forcefully pulling Kwangmin away from Moonji and escorting him out of the room. The two men exchanged heated words, with Kwangmin openly questioning Kai's actions.

"Really? You're her boyfriend? Are you serious? If she's your girl, why did you leave her and go off with another girl?" Kwangmin challenged.

"I was going to pick her up after I dropped my friend off at her house," Kai defended himself. "If that's true, then why are you here? You should have been worried when you couldn't find her at school, or at least shown some concern for her. But you didn't. All you did was sit on the couch and eat pizza while your girl was still missing. And now you're claiming she's your girl?" Kwangmin spat, pointing at the pizzas on the coffee table.

Kai's anger flared, and he advanced on Kwangmin, forcibly pushing him toward the door. "Whatever, you maniac," Kwangmin muttered as he exited Kai's house.

Left alone, Kai ventured into Moonji's room. Gently shaking her shoulder, he woke her up. "Why did he send you here? I asked you to wait, didn't I? Is it that hard for you to wait, and you ask another guy to send you home? Really? You're making me look like a bad boyfriend."

Moonji looked into Kai's eyes, her voice growing intense as she asked, "Kai, can't you at least be nice to me?"

Kai sighed heavily and locked eyes with her. "What? Come on, Moonji. I paid you a million dollars to be my fake girlfriend, not my real one. The reason I paid you to be my fake girlfriend is to make Lee Dasom realize that I'm a man with feelings, too, not just some random arrogant guy she always talks about. You're not my real girl, so don't act like you're mine."

Moonji felt a lump in as she responded, her voice cracking with emotion, "Well, at least treat me like I'm human too, not just some robot or toy for you to break and play around with."

"I paid you, so I can do whatever I want. You should have known the consequences before you took the money. Don't blame me for this," Kai retorted before exiting the room.

Moonji lay on her bed, tears welling up. "Can't you at least ask me about my condition or anything?" she lamented to herself.

Kai retreated to the kitchen, his mind heavy with confusion and frustration. The image of Moonji in Kwangmin's arms haunted him, and he couldn't help but wonder if she was truly the person he thought she was.

The doorbell rang, snapping Kai from his reverie. He opened the door to find Kwangmin once more, his expression a mixture of annoyance and curiosity.

"What do you want this time?" Kai asked, his face etched with tension.

"Okay, relax, bro. I just want to give you this—Moonji's bag and school stuff that I forgot to bring up earlier. This is her prescription for medicine and some bandages. Bye," Kwangmin replied, patting Kai's shoulder as he moved toward the elevator. "What's the bandage for?" Kai inquired.

Kwangmin paused, offering a parting shot, "Stop acting like you don't know she's your girl, right? And, yeah, she has a doctor's appointment in two days." With that, Kwangmin departed, leaving Kai grappling with the unsettling thoughts in his mind.
