Small Steps
The MaskToday was a rest day for Luhan and his group. During his free days, Luhan would usually spend the day at Jinah’s house to rest or go out with her. Now, Luhan had no Jinah to go to. He was laying on his back, hands on the back of his head and eyes open, staring at the blank ceiling.
Luhan and Jinah hadn’t been together for that long, but the length of a relationship doesn’t define one’s love. Moments and times spent together doesn’t define the amount of love either. It all comes down to what you feel for the person. Time doesn’t define love.
Luhan missed Jinah. During his breaks in between practices, performances and shootings, he would do nothing but to think about the times he spent with her. He tried not to think about her, but to no success. He wanted to put work on top of all as he realized that he couldn’t be selfish because there were 11 other guys who gets affected by his actions – the way he treated himself and the way he made it hard for all of them to do their jobs as singers and entertainers. He had apologized to all of them for acting that way, and they forgave him, of course. However, that didn’t mean that he had moved on and was feeling a lot better. He just decided to seal it all in and suffer by himself.
His friends weren’t fools. They knew too well that Luhan really felt sorry for how he acted towards them and how he didn’t want to drag anyone in his misery anymore, but they couldn’t do anything except for being strong for Luhan and being there when he needed a shoulder to cry on. They wanted to find Jinah by all means, but what could they do when they were just normal boys who didn’t have the luxury to hire an investigator? First, it was really expensive. They had families to support and debts to pay. Second, they realized that Jinah left for a reason. They believe that they had no rights to evade her personal life and privacy.
When he was done looking through their pictures, he checked his messages again where he saved all of their conversations even before they became a couple. However, it wasn’t his and Jinah’s conversation that caught his attention; it was his and his mother’s conversation. He opened the message and read through it. His heart clenched as he read,
Me: Ma, do you remember the Korean girl I brought for dinner a few months ago?
Mami: I do. Why? I forgot her name, but she’s really pretty and kind.
Me: Ahn Jinah. Remember her name. She’s your future daughter-in-law.
Me: Ma, I’m planning to bring Jinah with me during Papa’s birthday.
Mami: That’s still 6 months away.
Me: I know. I’m just telling you.
Luhan smiled a little when he read it. He remembered how he felt so embarrassed that time. He was just excited to bring Jinah and introduce her not as a friend, but this time as a girlfriend. His smile faded as he read the next conversation,
Me: Ma, that accident 10 years ago… I got caught by the couple’s daughter.
Mami: Oh no! What did she say? Does she want money to keep her silent? Is she filing a police report?
Me: It’s Jinah. Jinah as in my girlfriend. She’s still not talking to me. I don’t know what to do. Now she thinks that I knew she’s their daughter all along and that I’m just brainwashing her so she won’t tell the police.
Mami: Do you want me to talk to her? Your Papa and I are willing to come to Korea to talk to her.
Luhan: No, ma. I’m just going to give her time. I’ll update you when I get to talk to her.
Luhan stared at the screen and thought to himself, 'What am I
