I couldn’t help but smile as I got up that morning. Today was another chance to see you again, to be with you again, and to spend time with you again. Today was another chance to make you smile, to make you laugh and to make you happy.

As expected, you were already waiting for me outside our house when I got out. Somehow, my simple request of accompanying me for an entire week while we were doing our project together had become a habit. I felt a smile creep up my face as I walked down the stairs and out the door as your face came closer. You looked up and greeted me with that sweet smile of yours.

“You ready to go?” You asked as I took my place beside you.

I nodded, “Did you wait long Woohyun?” I asked looking up at him and meeting his eyes.

“Nope, not too long.” He smiled again, eyes forming crescents.

“Good, I overslept this morning. I was up until the crack of dawn finishing up Mr. Lee’s homework for calculus.” I said, stifling a yawn.

“Why didn’t you call me for help? If I had known you were having trouble, I would have offered to do it together.” You said with concern evident in your voice.

“Nah, I didn’t want to disturb you. I’m sure you had other things to worry about.” I shook my head.

“You could never disturb me, I like spending time with you.” You replied, smiling at me once again.

I could swear I felt my heart beat faster at those words. That’s one of the reasons why I feel in love with you. Did you know about that Woohyun? Every time you would willingly go out of your way to help me, the way you would be so selfless and generous with your time, I could swear, I would fall deeper and deeper in love with you.

Thursdays have always been my favourite day of the week because it was the only day when we have the same schedules and it was only during that day where I got to sit behind you during trigonometry and I get to watch your little movements the whole time without looking like a complete creep. I was only broken out of my trance when I heard the chair next to me move.

“So, what do you plan on doing?” I turned to see you sitting next to me, smiling as usual.

I blinked confused. “I’m sorry I might have zoned out there for a minute or two.” I reasoned out, faking a yawn and praying he bought it.

“Well, we were asked to pair up for our final project and I figured you’d want to do it together. I know math was never your best subject.” He added teasingly.

“Haha, very funny.” I retorted. “So what are we supposed to do?” I added, going back to business.

“Just exactly how long have you zoned out?”

“Maybe the entire period…” I admitted sheepishly.

He heaved a sigh and began explaining the whole thing to me. When he finished, he looked at me as if waiting for me to say something. I looked back at him, still confused.

“You’re hopeless.” He said with a chuckle.

“I know.” I replied

That was another thing that made me fall in love with Woohyun. He was kind, patient; he never got tired of my clumsiness. We would always be there for me whenever I need him. With him, I never felt alone.

“Sungjong-ahh!” I was fixing the things in my locker when I heard a familiar voice calling my name. I couldn’t help but let out a smile.

“Hey Woohyun, what’s up?”

He leaned against my locker casually, looking like a model while doing so might I add. “Well I was wondering if you’re free tomorrow after school. I want to buy something and I wanted you advice before doing so. I know you have rehearsals with your pianist that afternoon but I was hoping maybe after that I could drop by your house?” He asked hopefully.

“Well as long as it’s after rehearsals, it would be okay.” I said smiling, I had to admit, my heart was beating a thousand miles per minute at that moment.

That afternoon, Woohyun came to my house as expected and took me to the mall.

“What exactly are you looking for?” I asked confused, as we walked through what seemed a like a dozen of shops and coming out empty-handed.

“Well, you see, I was planning to a birthday present for a special someone. It’s her birthday next week and with you being my best friend and seeing as you have better taste in things girls have an eye for then who better person to ask?” He said sending me a soft look.

She. A female. I instantly felt my heart drop. “Of course, you know you can ask me for anything right?” I said, attempting to smile.

“I was actually planning to ask her out soon you know? Any ideas where?”

I tried to hold back my tears. “Well, there’s this popular café that’s just right across town, La Grenouille. Amazing French food.” I could see his eyes shine brighter than the usual, and his smile was never like the smile he would put on when he would be around me. It seemed more genuine; happier even; I couldn’t help but heave a deep sigh, attempting to ignore the pain in my chest.

“Thanks a lot Sungjong. I knew I could always count on you.” He said before patting me on the shoulder and hugging me tight.

“Anytime.” I tried to keep my voice from cracking. I didn’t think he noticed though. He was too happy thinking about the woman that he loves.

“I’m really glad you’re my best friend Sungjong. I could never have asked for anyone better.”

I couldn’t help but feel downcast at his words. I guess I can’t force you into loving me. I guess that’s the only way you see me. That’s all that I mean to you. No matter how much I love you; no matter how much I try to make you mine, it’s never going to happen because I am all alone in this game of mine. I’m no raindrop, who never falls alone; instead, I’m a leaf. I fall alone, and get swept by the wind. No one will be there to catch me when I fall. I know that now, that in this life, I’m the only one who fell. Not you Woohyun. I fell alone, and now I guess I can say, I am in love and alone.
