12. No Shoes

Jin Ri waits for me in my room and after I’m done washing, I go to my room. I’m starting to feel the excitement already. The rush I’m in only makes me more excited for tonight’s date.

I enter in my room and Jin Ri gets up from my bed.

“Let’s get it started,” Jin Ri nods once, clearly visible the enthusiasm on her face.

I laugh and speak “We need to be careful because of my mother. Let’s just wish she doesn’t enter in here,” I bless myself and look up to the ceiling as if praying to god.

I wear the dress and after, Jin Ri gestures me to sit on the chair, so she can do my hair. I do as told and let Jin Ri’s magic hands work as they please. After maybe fifteen minutes she’s done. She takes a look at me and beams.

“With every day that passes by, I’m getting sure that I should go to the fashion world,” she sighs.

“Can I see how I look?” I ask, as I’m not really sure if she’s done.

“No! Just in the end,” she doesn’t allow me to take a look at myself and goes on with her work, now moving on to the makeup part.

I don’t pay much attention as she does my makeup. I know she’ll do a great job. More fifteen minutes pass and she’s finally over with her work. She puts down the brush and takes two steps back.

“You’re so pretty! The guy is so going to fall in love with you when he sees you,” she contemplates her job as she looks at me.

“Can I go see myself in the mirror now?” I ask once again, to be given permission. I get up from the chair and walk towards the mirror. The person in the mirror is slightly different from me. She’s more feminine and … prettier. I must admit that Jin Ri did a great job. My long hair is wavy and the makeup is simple, without an eye shadow, only with a bit of BB Cream to make invisible some imperfections, mascara and a thin line of black eyeliner.

“So? Do you like it?” My best friend asks, anticipating my answer.

I turn around and hug her. “Yes I do. Very much! Thank you Jin Ri,” I thank her as I’m deeply grateful for her help.

“Awww. Don’t need to thank me. You know I’ll be always willing to help you, no matter what,” we separate from the hug and I glance at the watch. I widen at seeing that’s already nine o’clock.

“Oh my god! It’s time already! How about the shoes?” I panic as I turn to Jin Ri, who takes some time to catch up with me.

“Shoes? You don’t have shoes?” She looks at my bare feet and then at me.

I quickly shook my head “I only have sneakers,”

“You only have- What?!” Reality finally hits her as she realizes that I don’t have any foot wear appropriate for the outfit I’m wearing. “Hum, wait! I have shoes that are perfect for that dress. Wait for me. I’ll go home and then I’ll be back with the shoes,” Jin Ri rushes out of the room without letting me even protest.

“But- … it’s already nine o’clock,” I speak lower as I know she’s already gone from my room.
