Memory Lane

Description

For Soojung, the hardest thing was not about how to achieve her selling target for this year. It was not also about how she tamed the killer investors that could trip her everytime she fails on her projects. No, the hardest thing was not about that.

For Soojung, the hardest thing was to completely shut her heart off her love.

The man she fell in love with, the man she shared her first kiss with; the man that completed her.

The man she should never be in love with.

So Soojung tried her best to erase him.

His voice, his smile, his hands, his hair, his smell, his laugh, his stupid joke, his eye smile; everything he has.

And she thought after all this time she finally could forget him, every aspect of him that she should bury deep down in her life. But no, she didn’t.

Because everything they did together, she never forgets.

Foreword

Soojung stopped her steps at the front gate of her university where she spent four years studying Business and Management. She looked up at the old building that’s seen from the gate, so big and grand, just like the first time she stepped in there; when she had no idea what was the difference between studying in school and university, but quite understand that life in university would be so much different from school, when she left the age of her innocence.

Time flew fast, now she’s already graduated from university and worked as a junior business planner in an Oil and Gas Company, a profession that she never dreamed before; because she used to think that she will fail, that she wouldn’t be able to graduate from the prestigious institute, and simply because she didn’t know what she wanted to be. Soojung was once a clueless girl which people in her life now would never thought.

Her transparent boots played with the splash of the water on the wet asphalt. It was raining minutes ago and for a person who hates rain, she’s quite tolerant to the drizzle that fell on her hair. Soojung dislike rain, never like never will. But there’s something in the rain today that she’s kind of waiting, like every raining time that she always waited for, back in six years ago.

The petrichor triggered the old memories; a scent that awakened her long lost connection with her past, things she used to love, someone she used to love.

Soojung pressed a small smile on her pink lips. If she thought about it again, the reason why she started to fond of rain, it sounded so silly. But that was what love is, right? To fell so deeply and acted stupid all the time… You can’t be smart and in love at the same time, she believed in that; and because she thought that her great GPA totally moving in opposite direction when it comes to her state in love.

The drizzle suddenly getting bigger and Soojung was about to move around, looking for a place to run from the water, when she felt that there was no more water falling on her hair. Well, drizzle moved to bigger rain and started to wet the area around her but not herself. Soojung noticed that other than the petrichor, there’s another scent smelled. The musk scent that she always knew, the scent she always smelled every single day back in college, the smell that was forgotten but now she remembered.

Soojung turned her head to the side and just like she had been predicted (and been wished for), she found the owner of the scent. Standing tall next to her on his black shirt - one button opened with sleeve folded up to his elbow- tucked on his black jeans that was paired with the safety boots, he looked at Soojung and like she had been longing for quite a long time, he smiled at her eagerly as he held an umbrella over both of them.

“Hi Soojung”

His scent, his voice, his smile, his lost eyes when he spread the smile…

Soojung didn’t realize how her eyes went wet with the tears that’s almost fell on her soft skin as soon as she saw him. When she heard her own heartbeat that sounded like a drum sets being played at the same time, she knew she’s ready to fall again; ready to draw back to the form of past that’s standing right in front of her. She’s hesitated for a bit but then her lips curled, forming a pretty smile that he didn’t fail to see.

She missed him and she wanted to taste him. Again.

“Hi Jongin”
