Memory Lane

"Chance"

It was sometimes around the start of spring when Jongin walked around the boulevard. That day, everything looked brighter with the newly bloomed flowers and sun that’s shining prettily, falling to the ground and warming his cold body. Jongin walked in his dark suit while holding another set of clothes in his hand. It’s his graduation day, the time he finally finished his long and deadly four years of studying; the time he could cherish on.

The past four years had been a battlefield for him. He took his study seriously, for his passion to be a building developer. Jongin always love the feeling of building something and he has a big dream to build one. It was his father who introduced him with building and construction. Ever since he fell for it, Jongin never stopped walking around and taking pictures of interesting buildings whenever he went visiting places. And now that he’s graduated, he’s ready to start his journey in construction world.

“Jongin, fix your tie again”

It was his mother’s voice, telling him to check his appearance. The commencement already done hours ago, but as much as his mom loves neat and proper things, she couldn’t help but reminded him to be aware with his outfit. Jongin had no problem with that though; he loved it when his mom nagged on his behaviors. It’s been a while since he heard her fussy words, telling him to not eating while walk at their home alley or simply asking him to wake up early in the morning with a fresh face, not with the dull and sleepy eyes. He loves her lots, the woman who softly caressed his cheek while linked her arms with him.

Smiling, Jongin fixed his tie and showed his neat tie to his mother, on which she approved. Walking next to her was his father, who happened to show the university around to his mom. Jongin is Mr. Kim’s pride; his one and only son. He never asked Jongin to follow him though, but still, the little gift Jongin gave for him in the form of his entrance to the same university just as him on his birthday four years ago touched the old man. And today, just when he received his degree, Jongin could see how proud his father was towards him. That was enough for him, he felt happy if his parents happy.

“Aunt!”

Jongin’s mother stopped her steps and saw the brown haired guy who walked towards their direction. Sehun smiled brightly and bowed politely to Jongin’s parents, as his parents following him. Jongin’s father and Sehun’s are friends, so they happily greeted each other and in the end engaged in a conversation as well as their wives.

Sehun and Jongin also chatted for a bit, he noticed that Sehun brought so many flowers in his hands, the proof of his popularity during the graduation ceremony. It was a habit during the graduation party when graduate students get flowers from the other, such as their friends, families, juniors, or simply secret crushes. It was like one of the way for those who were in love to show their feeling to their crush, and Sehun clearly was one of the hot targets in their university.

“Are you a flowers seller or what?” Jongin , pointed to the flowers bouquets.

“Like you’re not” Sehun replied while he rolled his eyes. “Where are yours?” he checked on the flowers in Jongin’s hands, there’s only a bouquet of peonies. “Let me guess, you’re being lazy so you threw away the other and left one just to keep your cool?”

“Nice guess” Jongin answered, punched Sehun’s shoulder while chuckling. “Anyway, Jinri said hi to you, she wanted me to congratulate you. So hope you can call her later on”

“Yeah, sure. I’m going to meet her later on anyway, I’ll be going for vacation to Shanghai” Sehun said as he tapped Jongin’s shoulder. “You’re good with her?”

Jongin nodded lightly. “Yeah, we’re as good as we’re ever been” he enclosed his words with a smile.

“It’s good then…” Sehun muttered.

It’s silent between the two guys. They watched how their parents talked to each other in a happy expression. Jongin’s parents mainly resided in Japan, while the Oh stayed in Seoul so it’s been a while since both of them could see and talk closely just like this.

“So…” Sehun suddenly said while he took a deep breath. “Have you seen her?” he asked as he looked to Jongin who still watched their parents talked to each other.

Jongin knew who the person Sehun talked about was, he clearly knew it but in contrary to his will, Jongin could only shook his head softly.

“Why?” Sehun asked him again. It’s their batch graduation time, most of them being graduated in this period, including her and although there’re thousands of students being graduated today, there’s no way Jongin couldn’t see her during the commencement earlier at the hall.

“I’m not confident” Jongin muttered an answer, smiling bitterly to himself as he gave a look to Sehun who currently stared at him.

“About what?”

Sehun has to wait for the answer as Jongin played with his boot, kicking the empty air on the ground.

“About her seeing me” he said. “I don’t think she wants to see me ever again” Jongin shrugged his shoulder in defeat, placed both of his hands inside his suit pocket. Somehow the weather suddenly getting chiller and both of them noticed how their parents agreed on a dinner together. Sehun and Jongin promised to go later on; they still wanted to stay at the university. Once the elders off from the university, Sehun loosened his tie and leaned to the tree around the hall at the West Wing.

“I think both of you are idiot” Sehun commented, rolled his eyes in annoyance. It’s been four years already ever since his best friend met with the girl whom Sehun liked, and two years had passed since Jongin and her fought which turned them to their current status of ignoring each other. Well, more like Soojung ignored him while Jongin started to look for her.

Jongin broke up with Jinri in the end. They grew apart and finally Jinri decided to call it off, since she couldn’t bear the feeling of being away from Jongin. He was on the start of his third year when they ended the relationship. It was not because of Soojung (although sometimes her names slipped in between Jongin and Jinri’s argumentation); they have too different types of world, too casual with each other, and she too easily feeling jealous to every girls around him. So when the phone call slowly reduced and no more emails exchanged between them to cope up with each other’s life, Jinri finally talked with him and they agreed to end the dull relationship.

It took Jongin around six months after his break up to realize that actually he missed Soojung. He knew he’s such a jerk for her, but the feeling grew strong each time he couldn’t see her and when he accidentally saw her around the library or during some class transferred, he couldn’t help his heart beating a little faster than usual. Jongin finally admitted, he grew feelings for her, but it seemed like it was already late. Soojung never once looked at him.

Ever since they stopped talking with each other, he totally lost contact with her. At first, Jongin felt it was like when he’s arguing with Soojung; she being muted and he had to do all the guessing on what’s wrong and of course, tried to make up with her. But this time, he knew what went wrong but too bad he couldn’t fix it. Jongin couldn’t forget the hurt look in her eyes when he gave her the surprise face upon hearing her confession.

Jongin never thought that Soojung would fall to him, well at least, not that deep. He thought that their skinship was nothing but simply on a friendship basis, he didn’t know that it was that messed up already. Part of him feeling guilty over Soojung, but on the other side, he loved his girlfriend and of course, he wanted to stay committed. So he could do nothing but try to keep things low, just like what Soojung did.

Well Jongin didn’t blame Soojung for creating the distance though. She likes him, and what was more frustrating than staying close with the person you like but you couldn’t do anything because that person has a lover? So being separated was indeed a good way, but that was not enough for Jongin though; because in the end, he’s the one who craved her.

Sehun was the only person who could connect Jongin to Soojung, but of course, he couldn’t hope too much. Sometimes Sehun told him about what Soojung been up to, or sometimes casually mentioned that she went on a date with one of her seniors in the department. Jongin felt happy though, she didn’t seem to be that sad just like the last time she saw her on his flat. And when he saw her laughed happily as she walked around the alley when he was inside the class there Jongin glad that Soojung still has her contagious laugh on her. It was a relief, he thought.

The moment he broke up with Jinri was one of the darkest periods in his life though. He thought they’re fine, he thought that he loved her more than enough; still, lack of love was not the cause. She blamed the distance, then she blamed his behavior, but in the end, she blamed herself for not being able to keep her feeling for him. He fought for them though; he even went to Shanghai for the sake to see Jinri, to fix them. It was crazy, he admitted, but it was worth it. He finally admitted that there’s nothing left between them but memories when he saw Jinri. He’s sad, Jinri was his first love, his cute classmate that often bullied him playfully, his best buddy in terms of coming late to school, his first kiss, his favorite person to run to when he’s feeling down; she filled most part of his life, but no one can deny the power of fate that God created. He should accept that they’re over and they should walk in different ways. And so they did.

Jongin didn’t know if it’s karma or if it’s just fate, but after Jinri there’s no more girl in his life, except for Soojung. Somehow her name was chanted inside his mind from time to time, making him thinking about her all over again. He thought that maybe it was just a temporary feeling; maybe because he missed her presence, but weeks went to months and months turned to years, there he realized that he fell for Soojung. Maybe it was because he knew what she felt for him or maybe because he thought about her more than he expected to be, and not able to do anything to cure his crave to just seeing her tortured him enough.

But again, he could not do anything about it. He knew she probably hates him and Jongin didn’t want to bother her anymore, because he thought that she already hurt by him, so the best way was to ignore her also. Jongin thought that ignoring Soojung would help him to stop thinking about her. He made it through; secretly watching her was enough for him without having to make her annoyed with his presence around her. But the graduation was a special day and Jongin didn’t tend to let the last day he could see her being passed just like that. He just wanted to congratulate her, which was his wish, even though he had to do it secretly.

Sehun went first, following their parents who had been waiting at the restaurant while Jongin stepped to her building. Sehun told him that Soojung was still around there, the juniors prepared some surprise event to their seniors, and being a brat as always, Sehun refused to come, just because he didn’t feel it. But whatever, Jongin owed him a big lunch for informing her presence.

The sun almost set and graduation party ended almost at every department that celebrated it, Jongin couldn’t help but pray that she’s still somewhere around her building. He at least should do one more thing, before he bid a goodbye to her, even though it’s by the mean of secret. Jongin excitedly walked through the long stairs that soon connected him with the road to her building. There, he would see her, on her beautiful graduation dress with her perfect hairs and of course, pretty face. He would do nothing though, he would just saw her from afar and asked someone to pass her the peonies, the flower she likes the most. The flower in his hand earlier wasn’t his; it waited its owner to see it. And Jongin couldn’t wait to see her confused face upon receiving such a flower while he secretly watched her. That sounded creepy though, but he really didn’t want to ruin anything between them for the meantime. He bet she wouldn’t guess that he’s the one who give the flowers because-

“Ouch!” a soft voice heard as Jongin took a step back, someone came from the opposite side of the stair, accidentally stepped on his foot. He’s just about to say something towards the person right when he went froze, but not before quickly hiding the bouquet at his back.

“I’m sorry, my mistake. I didn’t see that someone is…”

Soojung stopped talking as her eyes met with Jongin’s. Both of them stayed still at their position as they kept looking at each other, the words hanging on their throat, but none of them could say anything.

“Hi” Jongin decided to break the ice between them. He added an awkward smile, but he tried to assure her that he meant it.

“Oh, hi Jongin” she replied, less awkward. She flashed light smile and stayed still again. Soojung stood at the steps higher than him, but when he saw her, it was like they’re on the same height plus the close distance between them.

Soojung looked beautiful on her long Tosca dress that stopped at her ankle with her hair being pulled up into a pretty bun at the back of her head. Her lips looked pretty in red and Jongin somehow could not unnoticed how gorgeous she was in front of him. Their eyes kept looking at each other, but they couldn’t speak much, either because they haven’t met for such a long time or practically their chemistry just went off that even having a talk was already a hard task.

“Where are you going?” he asked her, making Soojung raised one of her eyebrows.

Jongin immediately regretted his question. It wasn’t supposed to be like that, he should not ask her in that way.

“Uh… Home. My parents waited for me at the parking lot” Soojung, much to his relief, replied normally. “Aren’t you going home?” she asked him back.

“Y-Yeah, I’m about to go for dinner with my parents”

“Oh” she nodded.

It’s silent again. Both Soojung and Jongin cleared their throat and for that, they looked at each other. Jongin knew, Soojung just didn’t want to see him but other than that, she never treated him like an enemy, if only her feelings for him never existed they might be not this awkward. But Jongin didn’t regret it a bit, he’s glad she likes her, because currently he likes her too. But he’s not sure, whether to tell her or not.

Soojung herself started to wonder what’s with Jongin. They didn’t meet for more than a year, although they studied in the same university. She’s glad that their university was such a big place with lots of buildings and alleys that’s enough to hide her from him. She might tell her heart that she’s over Jongin, but she couldn’t lie when there’s a slight of excitement appeared in her heart beat once she faced with Jongin. But what was there to expect?

“Okay then, I need to go to my parents” she said, almost like a whisper. Jongin moved his body slightly, allowing Soojung to walk pass him.

“Can I…” Jongin paused his words, couldn’t stop his hands from shaking just to talk with her. Soojung stopped her steps and looked back at him, waiting. “Yes?”

“Can I walk you?” he asked her in the most pathetic tone he ever made. He didn’t care if she thought he looked stupid, it took him all of his courage just to talk with her again and he wanted to make sure that it didn’t go waste. Soojung eyed him in confused, but before she could tell anything, Jongin quickly speaking again.

“I’m heading to the parking lot as well” he muttered.

She didn’t say anything but her small nod answered his question. Since most of the department already ended the graduation party, the road inside the university was quiet. There’re some freshmen cleaned up the after party and some of their graduated friends walked pass them and said hi, but most of the time, it’s just Jongin and Soojung walking next to each other in such a calm silence.

“So… heard that you’re having a good GPA, like you’re the top five in your department” Soojung, unexpectedly, spoke first to him.

Jongin nodded softly; too lazy to admit the fact “You’re doing well also?”

“Enough to apply for a job to a big company though” she replied. And it’s silent again.

Soojung noticed how they totally went so much different from their previous relationship to their current condition. They used to talk about anything, but now, talking about weather might not even work.

“What are you doing at the stairs earlier anyway?” she made courage to ask him again.

“Uh… I’m looking for Sehun” he answered quickly. He knew he should not lie, but somehow, it seemed to be a safe answer.

“He won’t be attending those kinds of events. He’s too cool for that” she chuckled, remembered about Sehun the brat.

“Yeah… He said that he dislike to attend the event made by your juniors…” Jongin casually replied; feeling relieved that finally he has something to talk about along with Soojung, although it was about Sehun.

Soojung stopped her steps and looked at him, making Jongin followed her.

“Jongin… Didn’t you say that you’re looking for Sehun? If you knew that he wouldn’t be attending the event in our department, then why you came around my building?”

She got him. And nervous face that appeared in his face didn’t help at all.

Jongin looked at Soojung once again and after closing his eyes to take a deep breath, he decided to come clean. He should not lie to herself, but moreover, he should stop lie to himself that he didn’t want her, that he just wanted to be a mere friend with her. He should be honest, towards the girl he likes.

“Well, first… I’m sorry for making an excuse-“

“Looking for Sehun while you’re not was not an excuse, Jongin. You’re lying to me.” she cut him off.

He sighed. “Ok, listen. I never meant to lie for you, it’s just…” he sighed again. He wanted to curse himself, this was just too embarrassing yet stupid, but he didn’t know anymore what to do with his own feeling. “I came for this”

Soojung looked to whatever Jongin held behind his back and although she wanted to gasp because of the pretty peonies showed in front of her, she could just gave him a questioning look.

“Happy graduation” he managed to said it without being shaky or nervous.

Soojung accepted his peonies with a mixed feeling, but in the end she thanked him, sincerely.

“I have nothing to give for you” she said to him, once she held on the bouquet.

He shook his head. “It’s not important. I just wanted to give you that… You always mentioned that you like peony, didn’t you?”

Soojung remembered the time she liked him, it always went like this, this is why she could never hate him. Jongin always made her feeling special, feeling like she’s the only in his world, but in the end, he annoyed her but still she couldn’t hate him. She wondered why should her heart fell so deep for a guy like him, it’s totally such a waste of time. And now, he did it again to her. She knew that he and Jinri broke up long ago, but that didn’t change the fact that she’s hurt by her own feeling to him. She should not keep the feeling around her, if she didn’t want to get hurt by him, again.

He watched her. The look she gave over the peonies and how he noticed the excitement which appeared all over her face, he couldn’t stop his stomach to feel funny. He’s just looking at her and she made him feeling like he’s the happiest man in the world. Jongin swore he tried his best bit the inside part of his cheek just to suppress his smile. Darn, he did really fall for her. Where has he been for the past time?

“Please don’t do this” she mumbled, closed her eyes before she looked at him again.

His smile disappeared from his face. “Do what?” he asked her.

“Stop making a fool of me” she stated.

“What? I didn’t make a fool for you, I just-“

“Yes, you do make a fool for me. After all this time, I gave us enough time to reflect to what had happened and clearly, you didn’t learn” she glared at him.

He crossed his hands around his chest and looked at her.

“I’ve had enough of you. I know it’s my mistake to like a guy who has a girlfriend already, so I stepped back from the frame. I’ve learned my mistake and I promised I won’t repeat it again. I’ve erased you from my life and now that I succeeded on doing it, I would not allow you to-“

Soojung never could finish her sentences, for Jongin leaned in closer to her in such a fast move and there, landed his lips over hers. His right hand cupped her left jaw, with his thumb slowly caressed her cheek. Her body tensed from the sudden intrusion, she kept her eyes opened and truly, to feel Jongin this close was just like a dream came true.

It would be a lie if she never thought of kissing him during their time being together. There were so many times when he moved or talked too close to her and all she did was looked at his plum lips. She wanted to know how his lips felt over her lips would, she wanted to taste him. She wondered if she would feel the butterfly like everyone keep saying about when you kissed someone. She’s never been kissed and her lips sometimes craving for Jongin’s; she even imagined how she would kiss Jongin, maybe in such a shy type kiss or maybe a heated one. Whatever, she admitted that she wanted him. Of course no action taken and those thoughts were drowning in her mind; she didn’t dare to challenge herself, he’s not her to claim.

But now that he kissed him, Soojung couldn’t stop thinking about how her wished had been granted. Her wildest imagination of kissing him came true, but she felt nothing.

Jongin lips moved harsh around hers, he nibbled at her bottom lips but then quickly covered it again, and then moved slowly. He started to move slower and finally stopped his kiss with his lips still on hers; she didn’t response to his kiss. Jongin then slowly took a step back and opened his eyes, only to find her looked at him with a teary eyes. He lost words when he faced her; all he wanted to do was to explain to her about his action. Jongin realized that he just made such a big mistake.

“Soojung…” he called her name just when she wiped her lips with her bare hand.

“Soojung, I’m sorry… I’m really sorry…” he said repetitively. He was looking for her eyes but she refused, she just looked at the ground with her hands holding on each other.

“See?” he could hear her hoarse voice, maybe it’s because the tears that was about to fall from her eyes. “You made a fool of me again. What was that kiss for, Jongin?” she looked at him with an angry glare. “Is it to show that you still have power over me?”

No one say anything for a while, not until Jongin realized that it’s the time for him to say whatever he has on his mind, the thing that had been bothering him days and nights. He closed his eyes again, breathing deeply.

“I like you” he said.

Soojung quickly looked at him, and he clearly didn’t miss the surprise look she gave from her eyes, those beautiful pair of eyes he had been missing for a long time.

“What do you want actually, huh? It’s embarrassing already for me to confess to you two years ago, now you suddenly said that you like me…”

“Whatever happened in the past stayed in the past. I just want you to know that right now, I’ve been falling for you and I’m asking you to give me a chance to fix the things before. Let me make it right, Soojung…”

Soojung didn’t say anything. She just looked at Jongin, with her cheeks went red from the cool wind and partially, because of what Jongin said. She tried to digest his words; he said that he likes her, just the way she wished for.

“Jongin please stop joking around” she muttered.

“I’m not” he helplessly said to her. “Listen” he made a timeout sign with his hands. “I don’t know how to make you believe me, Soojung. But I’m not lying to you or playing with you. I like you, sincerely”

Too many things happened in a day for her which includes Jongin. First she suddenly met him, then he kissed her, and he confessed to her that he likes her. For every girl, it would be a dream comes true, but Soojung couldn’t say that she feel the same. She cleared her throats and stopped fiddling her fingers. She looked at Jongin, making him feeling nervous more than ever.

“You really want to make things right?” she asked him as she looked at his eyes.

“Yes” Jongin answered without any hesitation.

“Then let’s just forget everything”

Jongin blinked his eyes several times, trying to digest her words.

“Forget you?” he asked her back, with a very depressing look, more like talking to himself.

“If possible, yes. Forget about me”

He shook his head quickly. “Sooj-“

“To make it clear: I used to like you, Jongin. But not anymore”

“I know you’re still angry with me but Soojung…”

His words got cut by the sound of Soojung’s phone, notified her that she got a call. It was her mother asking her whereabouts and when she said that she’s talking to a friend, Jongin immediately knew that she meant her words. She glanced at him before she ended the phone call, promising her mom that she would go to the parking lot.

“I’ll leave first. Good bye, Jongin”

And so she left him all alone at the boulevard, the place that held so many memories of them. They experienced so many things in that particular place; the first day they met, the place where they used to spend their day when both of them had no class, the place where they argued about whose department was better in the university, and so much else. He never thought that it would be the place of their separation, but it did happen.

Before her, he noticed that the peonies were falling on the ground, scattered. Probably just like his heart.

There was never Jongin and Soojung anymore.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was another hectic day in the stock market and as always, people walked around while talking on the phone and kept looking at the big screen at the center of the room. Everyone always looked busy and concentrated every day in this room. Woman and man in corporate suit wandering around the room, making a call and report and it wouldn’t stop until night.

A tall blonde man was seen walking around also, but it was not for another shift at the office. It’s already his time to go home. He had been staying until morning for the past two days, but for today, he needed to go home earlier. He’d done his work and now it’s time to enjoy some date with his girlfriend. It’s their anniversary and he’s not expecting her to be angry at him because he’s late for their dinner. He used to be a sleazy boyfriend back in university, so he didn’t want it to happen to her again in their third year anniversary. He knew they’re still too young to talk about marriage, but he always had been serious with her, so yeah, at least he needed to show her how serious he could be.

Driving on his car, he directly went to the café near the office building. As always, he ordered chocolate milk tea, his favorite. Just right when he’s about to enjoy the drink, his eyes were covered. Just by the scent from the hand, Sehun knew already the person that standing behind him.

“Soojung, stop it. I know it’s you” he said calmly. His eyes freed from the cover and he smiled to himself when he saw Soojung across him, taking a seat in front of him while she playfully pouted. “I see you’re not bringing you work today” he raised his eyebrows.

Sehun knew that Soojung always brought her work to home, just to work on more about it. He told her that it was a bad habit, but she’s just as stubborn as him so he could do nothing about it.

“I’m not in a mood for work”

“Yeah, right” Sehun said as he sipped the milk tea. Soojung looked outside the window and turned her glance to Sehun.

“Where’s the flower for the anniversary?” she asked.

“On the car”

“How unromantic you’re” she commented as she rolled her eyes.

Sehun scoffed and let out a chuckle. Years knowing her, she still did not changing a bit. She’s still the Soojung he knew back on the first year of university. She’s still hard to approach, but in the same time, she’s a happy glee girl (she’s turned into a woman now, of course). She still smiled prettily, she still talked back at him the way she wanted to, she still has her gorgeous dark brown hair, and she’s stayed as beautiful as he could remember. It’s the Jung Soojung that he loved.

“So”

“So?” Soojung raised her eyebrows in turn.

“What do you want to say to me?” Sehun looked at her with his signature smirk.

Soojung cheeks suddenly went red and Sehun clearly knew the reason behind it. She turned her glance to her phone in her hand, playing it mindlessly. Last night, when she called Sehun, she sounded like she has a big secret to be shared with him but now he saw her, she’s just as red as tomatoes and totally silent.

“You know it already” she replied in short.

“I want details. Beside from the fact that he said that he wants to start all over again with you, what else Jongin did to you?” Sehun said the main point of their meeting.

Soojung looked directly at Sehun once he mentioned his name. Sehun always amazed with the effect Jongin has on her, it seemed like even though they hadn’t met the past three years, hearing his name only already made her blushed or went clumsy. It happened again; she blushed because of Jongin just like years ago, the period when Sehun was the one who saw her cried while Jongin being the cause of it. He spent too many days seeing Soojung struggled to overcome her feelings for Jongin, the man she loved.

“We talked” she started. “We walked to some places together” she added, nodding her heads slowly.

“Date” Sehun concluded.

Soojung shook her head. “No, not a date”

“So what you called it then? A friendly walk with your university friend? Pfft… spare me” Sehun sarcastically commented.

“Well, we’re just hanging out together” again, Soojung spilled a little information to Sehun.

“Oh come on! Just tell me everything! I’ve been away for 6 weeks in Tokyo since the last time you met Jongin and you said that you two were not dating?” Sehun impatiently asked.

“Do you expect me to just say yes to him?” Soojung asked him with eyes wide.

“In the end, you’ll say yes, Soojung. I knew it, I knew it from the very start you agreed to meet with him weeks ago” he eyed her, nodding surely.

“Maybe”

She stopped talking and played with her fingers as she saw at the napkin on the table. Sehun looked at Soojung, she always looked gloomy whenever she talked about Jongin but somehow Sehun just wanted to console her. He would never understand how his love worked on her, how he could totally let her fell for his best buddy, Jongin, while Sehun himself was head over heels over Soojung.

“Sehun…” she called him. “Do you remember three years ago, around our graduation?”

Sehun recalled the moment that she meant and he nodded. “That day had just repeated, huh?”

“And do you still remember what I said back then?”

Sehun nodded in understanding. Of course he remembered. He was in the restaurant, enjoying some tea with his parents along with Jongin’s right when he received call from her. She was crying and she couldn’t talk clearly, Sehun even needed to go out from the restaurant just to hear her.

“Soojung, tell me what’s wrong?” he frantically asked her, but she couldn’t stop crying. “Soojung, please”

“What is wrong with him? Why suddenly he came just like that and kissed me and said that he liked me?! What am I? Am I that easy for him to take and throw?” she cried her words, couldn’t stop shaking and sniffling.

Sehun needed a time to digest her words but then he understood fully. Jongin finally confessed to her, too bad she didn’t respond it well.

“So what did you say to him?”

Soojung was still crying when he asked her, but then she managed to stop her cry and sobbed instead. “I asked him to forget me”

Sehun sighed as he checked on her. “Do you really mean it?” Even though he couldn’t see her, he sensed that Soojung was shaking her head slowly. She always appeared cold and sometimes ignorant, but Sehun realized that Soojung always has this soft side whenever she’s talking about Jongin.

“This is stupid to be honest… But I’m happy when he said that he likes me, Sehun… Who wouldn’t though?”

He nodded on his own, sighed. “But?”

“But my heart didn’t allow me to accept him again”

“Yeah, I remembered” the memory came back as Sehun recalled it. It felt fresh, new, it’s just like happened just a few days ago and not in the count of years.

“Am I allowed to change it?” she looked at him.

“It’s your heart, you surely the one who can decide whether you want or not want a thing, Soojung”

“But what if we messed up again?”

“Then that would be means that both of you were not belong together”

Soojung suddenly raised her eyebrows and let out a laugh. “Funny, the most sarcastic person I’ve ever met in my life was somehow being cheesy and helplessly romantic”

“Yeah, just like when you first met Jongin or when you started to date that Minhyuk guy from your office” he rolled his eyes. Soojung replied with a giggle but then she smiled to herself.

“So, do you have another date with Jongin?”

Soojung nodded while smiling again. Sehun scoffed over her attitude, he’s happy if she’s happy.

“When?”

“What? So what are you doing here?” Sehun asked her in confusion, eyeing her.

“Watching him” she sang her answer towards him while looking outside the window of the cafe. Sehun suspiciously looked at Soojung but then followed her stare and there, he found Jongin stood next on his car while leaning to the door as he crossed his arms, looking around the road.

“Ok, can you tell me what the heck he’s doing out there?” Sehun amusedly held his laughter.

“We promised to meet an hour ago and the time I saw you here, I texted him earlier that I caught in the middle of traffic and probably will come late, around thirty minutes late and all he said to me was ok. He said that he’s not even arrived yet at the place, while I saw him clearly standing there already” she smiled as she looked at Sehun.

Sehun smirked as he saw her. “So is this the thing that you want to tell me?”

Soojung bit her lip, preventing her to smile fully but she nodded slowly over Sehun’s question. Sehun smiled in approval, he knew it already. And by the time she crossed the road and greeted Jongin who had been waiting for her, Sehun just knew that from the very start, maybe Jongin was meant for Soojung.

His phone was ringing and there, he heard his lovely girlfriend voice.

“Hey, where are you?” he asked her in concern. Sehun smiled when he listened to her rant about the works she’s still working on, as she asked him what he was doing. Sehun smiled as he looked at Jongin and Soojung who just got inside the car, getting ready to go somewhere.

“Well, I just sent off my soon-to-be couple friends, Honey. Yeah, they definitely going to make it now…”

The trip they took that evening actually marked the new chapter in Soojung and Jongin’s life, though.

A chance that Soojung giving for him; which Jongin would ever want to waste.

Second chance.

Hello there…

How have you been? I finally could update this story again… I hope you’re going to like this chapter. Have you figured out the end result for this story? ;)

Anyway, this then left me with the last chapter of Memory Lane. I prepared it already, and hopefully the last one wouldn’t take too much time to be written, edited, and finished. There are several things to be explained for the whole story. Can't wait to finish it hehe.

See you real soon with the next chapter ;)

ps:

I imagined Kai looking like this when he's waiting for Soojung across the road. He'll be damn cute, clueless waiting for her approaching him in secret ;)
