Summary: Kyuhyun died during a war and Sungmin was dishearted.. One day, Sungmin meets someone who reminds him of Kyuhyun. His age was the same as Kyuhyun and his presence transformed Sungmin’s life.

A.N: Well… firstly.. I made this fic because of a movie that I watched a few years ago.. I changed the plot a bit and oh I used some parts of the song a thousand words as well ^^

The moonlight touches down on the field and becomes a part of its beauty.

Darkness is also it's light.

I acted so distant then didn't say goodbye before you left

“Minnie, I must go... The country depends on us to save it, if we can’t even save our own country… Who would?” Kyuhyun said calmly as he hugged Sungmin from the back before leaving Sungmin. “I’ll come back Min, I promise. Wait for me.. okay?” Kyuhyun said softly before he left the house with his bags.

Sungmin dropped to the ground and weeped immediately after Kyuhyun left the house.

“Kyu… please be safe, I can’t live without you…” 

-Two weeks after Kyuhyun left-

 “Ding Dong!” The doorbell sound emitted throughout the quiet house that one morning. Sungmin who was preparing for work rushed towards the door, annoyed by the everlasting ringing sound. 

“How may I help you?” Sungmin asked as he opened the door to his house. Two men in army uniforms stood outside his door with seemingly solemn looks.

“May I know if Mr Lee Sungmin is at home?” The man wearing glasses spoke up looking at Sungmin with sad eyes. When Sungmin mentioned that it was he, the man immediately gave him an apologetic look as he turned to look at his partner. His partner took out a box from his bag and handed it to Sungmin. When Sungmin invited the two men into his house, they prompted him to open the box and see its contents.

Sungmin opened the box and saw what was in the box, he couldn’t help but to break down in tears. Lying inside the box was Kyuhyun and Sungmin’s couple photo and his army uniform. Inside the box also laid a letter, a very plain one with just a few words.

The two men watched as Sungmin cried and decided to tell him what had happened. Sungmin refused to believe that Kyuhyun would leave him like this. Wiping his tears away, he thanked the men for coming with news and sent them to the door before locking himself in his room.

"Save your tears 'cause I'll come back"

I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door

But still I swore to hide the pain when I turn back the pages

Shouting might have been the answer

What if I'd cried my eyes out and begged you not to depart?

But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart

It has been 4 years but Sungmin still couldn’t forget Kyuhyun and today was the day again. Sungmin walked slowly towards the tomb which had Kyuhyun’s name written on it. Sungmin placed the bouquet of flowers in his hands on the letch before  using a cloth to clean  the stone.

“It’s been 4 years Kyuhyun.. I don’t know how I lived 4 years without you.. You know, it’s tough to lead a company alone.. We had always wanted to spend our retirement days together..” Sungmin said as he raised his fingers to gently rub over the picture of Kyuhyun.

“I think I would have given up if it haven’t been because of Eunhyuk and Donghae.. The couple helped me run the company every time I had emotional pangs.. They even moved in to take care of me.. Kyu.. are you doing well? I still miss you and I’m still waiting for you to come back like you promised..” A tear dripped down Sungmin’s face as he got ready to go home.

“I love you and I always will.. I’ll see you next year..”

Unbeknownst to Sungmin, as he was talking, a man stood behind the tree listening to every word that he said. He hid behind the tree when Sungmin walked away from the tomb.

“Sungmin hyung! You’re finally home!!” Donghae screamed as soon as Sungmin stepped into the house.

“Dinner is ready!” Came another voice from inside the kitchen as a man with gummy smile emerged from it.

Donghae dragged Sungmin to the dining table and gesturing for him to sit down. Donghae then into the kitchen to take a bowl of rice and placed it in front of Sungmin. Eunhyuk walked out of the kitchen with the dishes and placed them on the table. Sungmin took a look at the dishes the couple prepared and smiled at them. They had always prepared dishes that both Sungmin and Kyuhyun liked every year since that day.

Somehow Sungmin couldn’t help but to feel extremely grateful to have such great friends, who were willingly to be with him throughout all his tough times. Sungmin ate his dinner in silence as he listened to the couple’s discussion.

“Sungmin hyung! Today that girl Yoona looked for you again, but you had already left your office at that time. She is like so attached to you, and come to find you every day! She’s a really nice gi-ouch!” Donghae stopped when Eunhyuk kicked him under the table.

“Indeed she is a nice girl, why don’t you take her instead?” Sungmin asked teasingly as he reached out for his favourite dish. Donghae looked at Sungmin with a sceptical look before replying him. “You know Eunhyuk will skin me alive if I do” Sungmin laughed and stood up to put his bowl in the sink and ruffled Donghae’s hair before going up the stairs to his room.

In the morning, the couple was sitting at the sofa watching the news. Just as a commercial break started, Sungmin walked down the stairs with his sports attire. Telling the couple that he was going for a jog and asking them to go to work first.  

I guess I just need a break from the memory stricken life I lead.. If only you were still by my side.. I miss you..

Sungmin left the house and started doing some warm up exercise before going to jog. He looked across the street as he stretched his leg, there was a new car parked in the garage of the once empty house. 

New neighbours?   

Sungmin plugged in his earpiece and jogged slowly on the spot before his house.  As he jogged he looked around his neighbourhood and a tear rolled down his cheeks. Kyuhyun and Sungmin used to run together in the morning, the couple would always jog for an hour before going home to get ready for work.

Sungmin stopped at their favourite pavilion for a short break. For 4 years Sungmin had taken the break alone. To his surprise, there was a man sitting on the seat with two water bottles on the table. Sungmin thought that perhaps he should go to another pavilion to rest instead.

“Sire, you can rest here if you want to. You can have a drink and use the towel, I think you forgot to bring them.” Sungmin looked at the man as he spoke. When he went jogging with Kyuhyun, he would always forget to bring his towel and water bottle but Kyuhyun never fails to prepare them for him. “I haven’t touched them yet if you’re wondering.” The man continued as Sungmin stared at him.

Though still suspecting the man, Sungmin felt a strange attraction to the man. He looked younger than him, but yet taller than him. He took the towel and wiped off his sweat, thanking the man in the process. The man just smiled at Sungmin and drank his water.

Something about this man reminds me of Kyuhyun… Should I get to know him?

“If you’re wondering, I’m Song Seunghyun.” The man said with a smile hung on his face.  “I’m Sungmin, Lee Sungmin.” Sungmin said as he took the bottle of drink from the table.  The smile on Seunghyun’s face didn’t leave him at all as they got to know each other.  In fact, every bit of him reminded Sungmin of Kyuhyun.

“It’s already 8am hyung, I need to go to work now.” Seunghyun smiled at Sungmin again and left the pavilion. Sungmin looked at his watch and decides that he too should go back home to prepare for work.

Sungmin walked into his office and was greeted by his personal assistances, Eunhyuk and Donghae. “Hyung, we have a new secretary for you, do you want to see him now?” Sungmin closed the door and nodded his head at them. Donghae walked out of the room as Eunhyuk prepared coffee for Sungmin. Sungmin had always preferred having his PAs in the room as him, so that he didn’t have to walk around so often. So his office is different from normal office rooms, he had a big room so that his PAs desk fits into his room.

A knock on the door brought Sungmin’s attention up from his laptop. He looked up and pressed the button to allow the person to enter. When Donghae walked into the room, a terribly familiar tall man trailed behind him. “Seunghyun?”

Sungmin stood up and stretched his hand out, welcoming him to work for him. Seunghyun smiled again and shook his hands.

A few months later, Sungmin and Seunghyun had became close friends. Everything about Seunghyun reminded Sungmin of Kyuhyun. It was as though Seunghyun was a replica of Kyuhyun. Sungmin had also been visibly happier than he was before.  

“You know, Kyuhyun had a deep, long scar that ran down his back.. He never wanted people to see him because of it.” Sungmin said to Seunghyun one day, when they were having tea together after a meeting.  Sungmin saw as Seunghyun flinched slightly when he mentioned that. “Sungmin hyung,  it’s time we get back to work.” Seunghyun said quietly to Sungmin.

Seunghyun went home that night and got ready for bath. He stopped in front of the mirror before he walked into the bathroom. As he took off his shirt, a long, deep cut ran down the middle of his back. He sighed and walked in to bathe.

-The following year on Kyuhyun’s death anniversary-

Sungmin and Seunghyun were walking towards Kyuhyun’s tomb together. As they reached the tomb, Seunghyun suddenly spoke up.

“It’s about time..”

Sungmin turned and looked at Seunghyun curiously. He was about to ask Seunghyun what he was saying when Seunghyun started glowing.

“Sungmin-hyung, I promised you that I will come back.. I’m glad that you are better now.. I missed you..” Seunghyun who was glowing started to change to Kyuhyun.

“Kyuhyun? Is that really you? You’re back!! Do you know how much I miss you!?” Sungmin cried as he hugged Kyuhyun tightly.

“I’m sorry hyung.. I miss you too.. but I don’t belong here anymore… Even Seunghyun doesn’t exist…I miss you but I’ll be waiting for you.. I will always be here for you.. I love you.. Live well okay hyung? I love you..” Sungmin fell to the ground as Kyuhyun disappeared from where he stood.

Sungmin knelt on the floor and cried, Kyuhyun wiped the tears from his face. “I’ll be here, always. I love you.” Kyuhyun said as he disappears for real. Sungmin wiped his tears off and smiled.

“I love you too Kyu… I will cherish my life, until the day I see you again..” Sungmin whispered to himself and stood up to leave, turning back as he smiled at the tomb for the last time.
