Chapter 1

I'm not okay

A/N: Hey there! This is chinkgyu! And I am back with a new fanfic, after the extremem failure with my other new one, I decided to make a better one, something with a better planned out plot. So in here, the beginning will be the present, and it will then lead to her telling the story of her old life, I guess, if anyone who has seen Reply 1997, would understand what I mean. Anyways, here goes nothing!

---

Your POV

I clutched my bag so tightly that I could feel my nails seep into the leather material. Although I've been on the same train, going to the same destination, arriving at the same time, every single year, my heart still rapidly pounds as if it was the first day. The array of trees that whizzed past me due to the train's rapid speed, blurred my vision slightly, well at least that's what I would like to think have temporarilty blinded me. Saying my tears were the ones at fault just seems too cliche to me.

I rubbed my eyes as if something was caught in it and fell asleep, like every other time.

Myungsoo, if it wasn't for you.. my life would have been so much...

"Thanks." I smiled crookedly at the victim before dashing off.

Mina held onto her bear tightly as she squinted her eyes in her sleep, the thing she does everytime she remembers something horrible. She's still just a kid, in my opinion.

Dad left us with mum when I was 12, so she was only 11, and she still thinks he's on a business trip. Mum died in a car accident not too long ago, just a few years after Dad left. I'm 16 now, and I have no place to live in. It'll only be a matter of days before those guys come to take the stuff in our house that had a red sticker on them.

We moved into the new area of Seoul just a year after Dad left, hoping to find a better start in life. Mum tried to juggle jobs and care for us, but it wasn't enough. Our relatives have magically disappeared when hearing that we were on the verge of bankruptcy, and I had no friends to crash over at.  Mina and I, are basically left with nothing.

I woke her up, getting her ready for school as I put on my uniform as well. We somehow found a hideout where we stayed for a while. We were supposed to be offered to the orphanage, and see if anyone can adopt us, but we knew that we couldn't go. If we did, they would seperate us, and how do we know if we ever see each ther again? So we decided to run away.

I walked Mina to the front gates of her new school and turned around to walk away, as if I'm going to school myself. Once I was sure that she was inside, I ran towards the nearest toilets and changed my clothes. Since no one hired high school students, I resulted to being a theft. I walked to the same shop again, the one that always gave me the best prices, and sold the phone. It could possibly last me and Mina for some time and to temporarily pay off her school fees.

I wandered around the park near our old house and threw pebbles at the ducks before walking back to the hideout.

"Ey, Mina. Cook me something." I yelled as I got inside the hideout, fully dressed as a student.

Mina sat on the chair, crying, accompanied by a few business looking people. I gave them a hard stare and waited for their explanation.

"Minji, you know you're not old enough to take care of Mina alone, right?" the lady asked, pushing her glasses up.

"Yeah, so?" I asked.

"Well Mr and Mrs Park had agreed to adopt both of yous. Don't you think it's a good opportunity?" she asked, looking at me.

The plump couple smiled, offering Mina some candy. She kept crying, tears falling. She raised her head, looking disappointed at me.

"What did you say to her?" I asked.

After an awkward silence, she told me that she informed Mina about our mother's death and how we are illegally living in this country without guardian supervision. As soon as she finished her sentence, I threw her to the ground and got on top of her. All this time, I've been trying to lie to Mina so she doesn't get hurt. All these times that I have gone against my own morals just to keep living by the day has been ruined by her. I raised my arm, ready to blow her with my punch before Mina's scrawny hand stopped me.

"Let's go with them." she said, her tears completely gone.

I don't exactly remember how it happened, but I ended up going to their place and I was enrolled into the same school as Mina. It turned out that they only wanted to adopt Mina, but she refused to go if I didn't come as well. I chuckled at her stupidity. I looked past my shoulder to see the uniform sitting neatly on my bed.

I walked to school in my usual black track pants and hoodie. I roamed around the school for a bit before starting to head inside the school. The kids here were rich and everyone walked in with a phone in their hands. My instincts took over me and I quickly grabbed a phone off someone and raced off. Even if I already have a somewhat stable place to live in, I still can't depend my life on it. I still need some savings, right? I looked at the phone I just stole and saw that it was one of the latest editions.

I carefully placed it in my bag before changing into my uniform and walked into class.

"Class, this is the new student, Park Minji!" the excited teacher exclaimed.

----

Myungsoo's POV

"It's Lee Minji." she corrected and bowed to the class.

I couldn't be bothered moving my eyes towards her direction and fiddled with my pens, pissed that someone stole my phone. I answered when the teacher called the attendence and whipped my head to look at the new girl who chose to sit next to me. Her pageboy haircut cuddles her face as she adjusted her skirt length, looking out the window.

---

Your POV

"I can buy you a new phone later if you give me my own back." he whispered as the teacher explained some maths on the board.

I looked over at him and looked away. How the hell does he know it's me? I avoided him as much as I can the entire class, ignoring him, not listening and just do anything I could think of. He didn't bother asking for his phone back. After school, I placed the phone inside his desk and walked home, not even bothering to take the phone back and selling it.
