Icy Coldness
Four's A Love StoryIt was the first day back at work after Christmas break, and Sohye cheerfully entered the office, despite the freezing winter weather. "Morning, Myungsoo", she greeted casually, as she passed his office.
He replied with a bright smile, "Hi Sohye! How was your break?"
"It was good", she paused and stood by Myungsoo's office door, rubbing her icy cold hands together. "Yours'?" She ased politely.
Myungsoo nodded, "hey, why don't you come in for a bit?" Sohye poked her feet at the scratchy blue carpeting before agreeing, taking a seat opposite him in front of the wooden desk.
Sohye had been waiting for the right moment to tell him about her and Daehyun. She didn't know how he would react, but it was eating her in on the inside. As she kept rubbing her hands together and thinking, she didn't notice Myungsoo reach forward until his hands were wrapped around hers'.
"My hands are warm, so..." He smiled and shrugged at the same time.
Sohye noticed he was wearing the cufflinks she gave him for Christmas; "I'm glad you like them", she said, delighted.
"Hm? Oh, the cufflinks", Myungsoo replied, beaming. She noticed how his eyes narrowed to cresents whenever he smiled; his expression was always so happy and genuine. The goofy shyness of his laughter was so satisfying and Sohye found herself staring, the corners of her lips raising.
For a moment, she forgot what she needed to say.
"Hey, Myungsoo..." She began, and he looked up in full attention. Sohye glanced out at the rain sprinkled window pane before carrying on, "There's something I want to tell you..." His curious eyes prompted her to go on.
"Daehyun..." She took a deep breath, "asked me to be his girlfriend". Myungsoo's face fell, and his hands gently did too.
There was a moment of silence. "Then, what did you say?" He muttered, already knowing the answer. His eyes wouldn't meet hers'.
"I said... yes", Sohye replied honestly and a little quieter than before.
"Congrats", he said half heartedly, and turned to face his laptop screen instead. "Maybe you should go get started on your work", he suggested without looking at her in the eye.
Sohye could sense the coldness in his voice and the sudden tense atmosphere. "Then, I'll see you later", she quickly mumbled and left.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a moment?" Daehyun wasn't expecting a visitor, so he was rather surprised when he looked up, seeing a very pissed Myungsoo standing by his office door.
Daehyun ran a hand through his messy hair with a frown, he already knew what it was going to be about but nodded anyway. "Just give me a minute to finish this up", he added.
"Whatever", Myungsoo muttered impatiently.
A minute passed and Daehyun rolled his chair back, "okay, what did you want to say?" He said, leaning back.
"You asked Sohye to be your girlfriend?" Myungsoo got straight to the topic, suppressing the irritation rising in his body. Daehyun replied with a casual nod, which seemed to annoy Myungsoo even more.
He scoffed, "Why? You love Yoonjoo, don't tell me you've forgotten her already", Myungsoo noticed Daehyun's expression turn darker at the mention of Yoonjoo's name.
"Don't mention her", was all Daehyun said.
Myungsoo knew he was pressing on the right spot, "You love Yoonjoo so you're using Sohye to get over her. Isn't that ridiculous? She's your best friend!" He exclaimed, walking closer towards him.
Daehyun stood up, frowning in annoyance. "You don't know anything, don't into our problems".
"It's my problem too! I love Sohye", Myungsoo announced, glaring at Daehyun.
"Oh really? Well Sohye clearly likes me, she agreed to be my gi
