Chapter 11

Secretly in Love With You

The next morning Jessica woke up with a huge migraine. She slowly opened her eyes to see Tiffany still sleeping soundly, wrapped in her arms. Jessica carefully slipped out of the younger girl’s hold and wrapped her bare body in the bathrobe that was hung over her chair. She vaguely remembered what had happened the night before. She looked over on her bedside table to find a glass of water and a migraine pill sitting in a little container, the brunette couldn’t help but smile at her roommate’s care for her. She took the pill and walked out of the room. leaving the younger girl to continue her sleep.

Jessica sat on the couch and opened her laptop which was sitting on the coffee table in front of her. She turned it on and stared at the picture of her and Sooyoung on her desktop. She felt a pang of guilt hit her as she looked at the picture. She quickly opened her picture file and changed her desktop photo to a picture of her and her younger sister. Jessica let out a sigh and leaned back on the couch.

The sound of a door opened and Tiffany walked out, wearing a tank top and sweatpants. She looked over the see the older girl on her laptop then made her way into the bathroom. Once in the bathroom, Tiffany let out a sigh. She couldn’t help but feel the guilt of allowing herself to do what she had done.

“Tiff?” A knock on the door caused the younger girl to jump. “Can I talk to you?”

“Um...Sure.” Tiffany said, struggling to get the words out. “Can it wait for a bit?”

“Well...It’s about last night.” Jessica said, her voice was barely audible. “Look...I’m sorry I pressured you. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“Hey...it’s fine.” Tiffany said, looking at her solemn expression in the mirror. “I should have just walked out. You were drunk and I took advantage of that.”

“Tiff.” Jessica’s voice was stern. “Don’t blame yourself for this because this was my fault. I let myself get out of hand.”

“Yes. But…” Tiffany swallowed the ball of tearful frustration she felt building up in the pit of her stomach. “But I still could have prevented it. I could have easily have just walked out and that would’ve been the end of it.”

“Tiffany…” Jessica said, her voice full of worry. “Stop being so hard on yourself. I know that’s what you’re doing right now.”

“Jessica just stop.” Tiffany said, her frustration reaching its limit. “I’ve had enough of this talk or argument or whatever you call it.”

“Well I hope you’re still going to fly back to Korea with me.” Jessica said, slightly upset. “I need to see Sooyoung. And you know I can’t fly on a plane by myself.”

“Well You’re just going to have to find someone else.” Tiffany said, biting her lip.

“Tiffany!” Jessica, panicked voice caused a ball of fire shoot up from the pit of the younger girl’s stomach. “I’m sorry…”

Later that night, Jessica sat on the couch watching T.V. She had her legs bundled up against her chest as her chin rested on her knees. Tiffany had been gone all day and Jessica had spent the day cleaning the room and packing her bags. She was watching a rerun of an old Korean drama she had already watched, tears were streaming down her face.

“Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Tiffany’s voice could be heard from the other side of the door. She was giggling and another girl’s voice could be heard. “Okay. Okay. Good night.”

Tiffany stumbled into the room, the light coming from the hallway stung Jessica’s eyes from being in the prolonged dim lighting. Jessica’s nose wrinkled as she could smell the strong stench of alcohol on the younger girl.

Tiffany walked into the kitchen and made herself a glass of water and walked into their rooms. Jessica let out a sigh and shut off the T.V. and went into the room, only to find the raven haired girl sprawled out her bed, fast asleep.

Jessica threw a blanket over Tiffany and squatted next to the sleeping girl. “I’m sorry Tiffany. I know you must feel a huge amount of guilt because of what happened last night.” Jessica let out a sigh. “But this whole thing was my fault and I was the one that pressured you. I made a huge mistake and I should be the one feeling a lot more terrible than you.”

“You’re wrong.” Tiffany mumbled. “I shouldn’t have let you get away with pressuring me. Especially when the things you were saying were true.”

Jessica let out a long sigh. “There really isn’t any good in regretting what already happened.”

“I guess you’re right.” Tiffany sighed. “Are you going to tell Sooyoung?”

“I’ll tell her when we get to Korea.” Jessica said, looking down at her hands. “I feel like it would be better if I told her face.”

“Yeah. That sounds like a good Idea.” Tiffany said, yawning. “You should go to sleep. It’s late.”

    “Hey Tiff?”

    “Yeah?”

“Who was that girl you were talking to?” Jessica waited for a response that never came. “Tiff?”

Jessica looked up at the younger girl only to find her sound asleep. Jessica let out a sigh and went over to her bed and stared at the picture of her and Sooyoung that sat on her bedside table. She felt tears stroll down her cheek as she slowly slipped into sleep.

The next morning, Jessica woke up to find Tiffany had already left. She sighed as she sat on the couch. She noticed a note on the coffee table and leaned over to grab it. She read the note and leaned back into the couch. Her face clearly filled with disbelief.

“I went out for the day. Don’t worry. I booked your flight for 5:30 pm on Tuesday. - Tiffany P.S. Don’t forget to pack your toothbrush”

“I guess you’re really not going to come.” Jessica said to herself. “I guess I should’ve expected as much.”

Later that night, Jessica had her bags packed and ready for her trip. She sat on her bed looking through the pictures saved on her laptop from the past year. She felt a twinge at every picture she had with Tiffany. She looked up at the empty bed across the room and let out a sigh.

“I’m sorry Tiffany.” Jessica said to herself. “I ruined the friendship we had worked so hard to rebuild. Now you don’t even want to see me.”

Jessica’s phone buzzed away on her bedside table. She leaned over and saw that it was Sooyoung, feeling a pain deep in her chest she picked up the phone and answered.

    “H-hello?”

“Hey Sica!” Sooyoung’s cheerful voice brought tears to Jessica’s eyes.

Jessica took a deep breath before speaking. “Hey Soo. How are you doing?”

“I’m great!” Jessica could feel the smile from the younger girl through the phone. “I can’t wait to see you. So when is your flight?”

“Oh. My flight leaves on Tuesday.” Jessica said, wiping the tears from her eyes.

“In the morning?” Sooyoung asked, sounding even more excited than she originally had.

“No.. Sorry.” Jessica said, her voice was just loud enough for the other girl to hear. “It’s at 5:30.”

“Oh.” Sooyoung sounded a little less excited. “Why so late?”

“It was the cheapest one I could find.” Jessica said, rubbing the back of her neck.

“Oh. Well that’s okay!” Sooyoung said, back to her cheery voice. “Wait...’I’? What about Tiffany?”

“Tiffany isn’t coming.” Jessica said, swallowing back her tears.

“What? Why not?” Sooyoung asked. “Everyone was excited to see the both of you. Everyone will be so disappointed.”

“I’ll explain later.” Jessica said, biting her lip to prevent Sooyoung from hearing her crying. “It’s complicated.”

“What? Did you guys get into a fight?” Sooyoung asked, her voice almost mocking. “I thought you guys were friends again.”

“I guess you could say that.” Jessica said, tears continuously fell down Jessica’s cheeks. “Hey Soo, I’ll talk to you later okay?”

“Oh. Okay.” Sooyoung said, her voice had a hint of pain in it. “Sure.”

“Sorry, It’s just that I was in the middle of packing and I want to get it done tonight.” Jessica lied, struggling to keep her voice steady.

“No it’s okay.” Sooyoung said, Jessica could feel the girl forcing herself to smile. “Well, talk to you later. I love you.”

“Yeah..Me too…” Jessica said, hanging up the phone.

Jessica let her phone drop onto the bed as streams began pouring down her face. She fell onto her bed, face buried into her pillow and cried. She could feel the burning in her chest growing stronger and stronger with each sob she let out.

Little did Jessica know, Tiffany had been standing on the other side of the door listening to the whole conversation. Tears rolled down her cheeks, she couldn’t help but feel guilt and pain fill every corner of her being. She dropped her hand from the doorknob and went to sit on the couch.
