Another version of ‘I’m Sorry’

“Welcome to Sweetness Donut!” Jiyeon cooed as she heard the front bell rang. Of course, it indicated a customer was here.

Jiyeon placed the cup on the food counter for the previous customer to take, before rushing towards the cashier counter, “Welcome, sir! What would you like?”

“You.”

Jiyeon frowned and tilted her head up, away from the cashier screen, “I’m sorry sir, but ‘you’ isn’t one of our dishes.”

The customer pouted sadly, in sarcasm, and leaned closer to her after placing his arms on top of the counter top, “But I only want you. What do to?”

“Last warning, sir.” Jiyeon gritted her teeth as she stood a step back, “Or I’ll call my manager out.”

“Call then! I would love to see your manager too.” The customer nodded his head in obedience, “I won’t run away. I will stay here. Right here. And I can wait for your manager. I have all the time in the world!”

Jiyeon clenched her fists up and growled lowly before storming back into the back office to get her manager out.

She explained the whole story along the way, but once they reached the counter, the manager cut her off at once.

“COLD CITY GUY!”

“BACON!”

The two guys hugged each other tightly, leaving Jiyeon bewildered. “BAEKIE! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO HELP ME!”

Her manager pulled away and laughed in joy as he turned to face Jiyeon, “My young lady. This handsome lad here is my friend. He was just joking with you!”

“Hi there, pretty. I’m Kim Myungsoo~” He took his hand up for a shake, but Jiyeon simply slapped it away, “Go away! Cold city guy!”

“Ah~ Bacon! Now she’s calling me that too! Thanks to you!”

Baekhyun laughed it off, and brought Myungsoo to a table by the window. He even sent him donuts and coffee for free too.

“What’s her name, bacon?”

“Jiyeon. Why?”

“She’s beautiful.”

“Wow. Wow. Wow. You’re finally looking at girls huh? Cold city guy~”

“Bacon.”

“What? I’m speaking the truth!”

Myungsoo rolled his eyes and looked at the girl behind the counter again, “She’s beautiful, for real.”

“She’s not someone you can play with, okay?”

“Why?”

“What do you mean why? You shouldn’t play with girls in the first place.”

Myungsoo rolled his eyes again, “I know. I know. I mean… You sounded as if she couldn’t be touched. Why are you so protective of her? How do you know her anyway?”

“I met her last year, in the middle of the road.”

“That’s weird.”

Baekhyun ignored him and continued his speech, “She was helping her blind mother crossing the road but she passed out all of the sudden. I helped her to the hospital, and her mother was found diagnosed with cancer. Last stage.”

“Oh God…”

“And she passed away early this year. Jiyeon had been working till now since she had school to go to and an apartment to pay. She won’t let me help too.”

“What about her dad?”

“Passed away when she was 7.”

“No siblings?”

“Nope.”

Myungsoo turned solemn as he turned his head to the counter again. “She’s such a poor child.”

“Yes. So I won’t allow you to play with her.”

“I won’t.”

Baekhyun saw the will in his eyes and was slightly taken aback, “Are you really serious about her?”

“Yeah.”

“For real?!”

“Of course!”

“Okay.” Baekhyun was happy. He knew Myungsoo was a good guy. They had been friends since diapers. But ever since Myungsoo’s family moved over to Seoul for bigger opportunity of business, they haven’t seen each for long.

Let’s just say they met almost once a year. Most of the time, Myungsoo would look for him, instead of Baekhyun heading down to Seoul since the latter has no car.

“I have to go now. ! Can I come again?”

“What about your work?”

“I have car.” Myungsoo smirked and walked towards the counter, “Jiyeon-ah~”

“What?”

Myungsoo chuckled at her cold response, but he wasn’t mad. He was wrong at the beginning. “I’m sorry.”

That surprised her, “What?”

“I’m sorry for being a jerk just now. I was just joking around. I hope you don’t take it to heart.”

Jiyeon bit her lips so as to bit back a smile, “Okay.”

“Great. I’ll see you again.” Myungsoo ruffled her hair and walked out of the store, leaving a grinning Jiyeon behind.

Baekhyun walked to her and smirked at her behavior in joy, “What’s that grin for?”

“Nothing!” Jiyeon shrieked and buried her head into her chest, avoiding his eye contacts. Baekhyun simply let out an amazed laugh before walking back to his office.

Myungsoo did as said.

He came to the café so often, to the extent that it was thrice a week.

Jiyeon was used to his visiting, and sometimes, she would even join in on his table if it wasn’t busy. It seldom was busy since Myungsoo chose nice non-peak timing to go.

“… And the fish just dropped back into the water after slipping out of his hands!”

Jiyeon laughed madly at his joke, as she clapped her hands happily, “Really?! Your friend must be so shocked! That fish he used 4 hours to catch it!”

“Of course! He cursed and swore never to go back again. But he couldn’t lose to the sea. So he returned the next day.”

“Did he catch it then?! Did he?”

“Yeah he caught one.”

“What fish?! Catfish!? Rockfish?!”

“Nah~ A shrimp.”

“A shrimp?!” And Jiyeon burst into laughter again. His stories were just awesome and funny! Jiyeon had been enjoying herself so much whenever he came.

Baekhyun stood behind the counter and was approving his behavior. He admitted that was a first for Myungsoo too. He had never seen Myungsoo opening up to a girl before.

Jiyeon was the first he could be so comfortable with.

As days went by, Myungsoo even brought her out to dates in Seoul. She was so fascinated by everything she saw.

It was new.

It wasn’t like her hometown.

Everything was high-rised, and everything was so high-tech.

It was awesome.

Myungsoo would then send her back home, and promised another date again. Jiyeon knew he was a busy office boss, and she felt bad for taking his time.

But Myungsoo would wave her off and simply said he was the boss so he can just skip his work. He has so many workers under him to do his work, so why should he go?

Yeah, and his parents let him be too.

Why?

That was the first they saw Myungsoo smile and laugh after so long. He was the cold city guy like everyone else had said, and he never once hanged out with any friends, other than Baekhyun.

His parents saw the change in him, and even called Baekhyun to confirm it. After realizing he was happy, they let him be.

They wanted to get a daughter-in-law too.

Myungsoo had been bringing her out to dates for months, and he finally asked her. He finally asked the question.

He brought her to the ice-skating ring after it was closed, and pushed her to the middle of the ring before he disappeared.

Jiyeon waited for almost 5 minutes, and was about to look for him, but the screen on the big white wall stopped her.

She looked at the screen as it played, and was simply awed by the video.

It played photos of both of them during the past few months together, and Jiyeon laughed hardly at the ridiculous last few photos of Myungsoo being bullied by her, in the café.

“How did you even take that? Did you ask Baekie for help?”

“Yes I did.”

Jiyeon turned around abruptly, and there he was. Standing behind her with a huge teddy bear in his arms.

It was almost the size of a panda.

Myungsoo skated to her side, and pushed the bear to her, “Will you be my girl?”

“Oppa…”

“I love you, Park Jiyeon.”

Jiyeon buried her head into the head of the bear before nodding her head happily. Myungsoo screamed in joy and pounced right on top of her, which caused the both of them to crash onto the ground.

But it didn’t hurt.

The both of them started laughing, and they enjoyed the night date outside before he sent her back home.

It was the best day for the both of them, in their entire life.

The couple had no trouble loving each other from afar.

They trusted each other too.

Myungsoo would come over to her during weekdays, enjoyed the time with her and sometimes stayed in her house.

Whereas during the weekends, Jiyeon would move to Myungsoo’s, and his parents welcomed her happily too.

They were simply glad that Myungsoo finally brought a girl back home for them to see.

Finally.

They thought everything would turn well.

They even thought the couple would talk about marriage soon!

But both Jiyeon and Myungsoo wouldn’t have imagined her eyes to have trouble too.

Jiyeon was walking to the café one noon, after her school had ended, and she was feeling dizzy. Her eye sight turned blur, and she tried moving but stopped again since she can’t see what was ahead of her.

She felt so afraid all of the sudden.

And her head hurts.

Jiyeon held onto her head and groaned in pain before fainting, right in front of the café.

Baekhyun saw the whole scene.

He was shifting the bag of coffee into the storeroom at that moment, and he caught how Jiyeon dropped onto the ground.

He was terrified.

Baekhyun closed the café at once and brought Jiyeon to the hospital. At the back of his mind, he told himself to call Myungsoo, but he had forgotten about it.

The doctor finally came out from the ward, and Baekhyun rushed to his side at once, “What happened to her? Is she okay?”

“Her body seems fine. We will have to ask her what’s wrong when she wakes up, before we do the check-ups on her.”
