Not another Teenage Love

Lost in Translation

Just one glance at you and my heart skips a beat.

“Really? Are you really going to wear this?”

Kim Jaejoong gave a nasty look to Nana who stood in front of him at her hotel room. While he wore jeans along with v-neck black shirt and looked extremely handsome with the dark glasses on his eyes, Nana just wore a jumper and short paired with white flat shoes with the hoodie was being put on her head, covering her gorgeous hair.

“What’s wrong with this? We’re just going to see around, right? And it’s Disneyland! I want to keep things simple” she plainly said, pouting at him. “Besides, it’s kind of dark outside. I’m doing a prevention of rain so-”

“But we’re also going to see my friends and …” Jaejoong cut her words and stopped talking. He shook his head. “Ok, do whatever you want. Let’s go…” he said in desperation. Nana suddenly caught his arm.

“Fine. Wait a minute” she said, went back to her room. Jaejoong waited outside, smiling happily that his plan was working.

Jaejoong and Nana were sent to Hong Kong to attend an annual summit there. The summit was held for 2 days, but they’re extending another 2 days just to hang around the city. The office was slightly not too busy that’s why as his manager, Jaejoong asked Nana to go out for a while. Not that he didn’t notice her changes after she broke up with Kris last year; it’s just he wanted her to recover more than anything. She’s more than just his junior in university; she’s also a younger sister for him.

Nana came out from her room with a better look. She wore a baby doll and short jeans that stopped at her thigh, covering it with a baseball jacket. She did a bride sided for the front part of her hair, leaving the rest of her long gold hair in a loose wavy. She used her red flats and Jaejoong was more than amused to see her.

“This is the Im Jinah that I know” he smiled, gave her his arm. She chuckled and accepted his hand, walking side by side to Disneyland.

“So is it another blind date?” Nana asked when they’re on the bus to Disneyland. She knew that whenever Jaejoong mentioned ‘his friends’ it’s usually ended up with Nana went for a blind date with a guy whom Jae introduced to her.

“Na’ah…” Jaejoong shook his head. “I’m just going to hang out with my buddies. Besides, every time Yoona and I tried to match making you with someone, it’s always failed” he replied coolly.

“It’s because you can’t give me a great partner” she stick her tongue out and looked outside the window in the bus, enjoying the ride.

She smiled to him, but then focusing on the road. Jaejoong watched her, feeling blue as he saw her. He knew more than anyone that she still couldn’t let Kris go from her life. The first 3 months after the break up, she looked lifeless, but she gradually getting better recently. It’s just Nana was not the same anymore.

Don’t close your heart, Nana…

Go Kyungpyo looked around and realized that he’s definitely lost in Disneyland. As a guy, he surely made the man feeling embarrassed for his lack knowledge of direction. Or maybe it’s because everything was always served right in front of him and he didn’t have to do anything in his life. Maybe that’s why. He looked at his phone in frustration; he forgot to save his senior number and finally lost in the middle of Disneyland.

“How am I going to go out from this place?” he ranted as he sat on the bench in the park, covered his face with both of his palm.

“You can go there for the exit”

A voice surprised Kyungpyo, making him looked to the source of the voice. It’s a girl with gold long wavy hair with a Minnie Mouse’s ears headband on her head. She appointed the “EXIT” sign to him, giving him the most dazzling smile he ever seen.

“Are you looking for the exit gate?” she asked him, waking Kyungpyo up from the sudden froze.

He shook his head immediately, one principle that Kyungpyo always had: never lose your cool in front of the girl. “No, actually I was looking for someone but then I forgot his number. I lost here and I don’t know where to meet him. All I can do now is waiting for him to call me”

She nodded swiftly. “Hope you can meet him soon… I’m also waiting for my senior to come here… He’s seen on the cotton candy stall, but then he’s lost while we need to go meet his friend. Or maybe he met his friend and forgot me?”

Kyungpyo chuckled as he saw her expression. He was lucky to find someone from the same country in a foreign country, plus she’s a beau. For a girl, she looked really cute, not to mention her beautiful face and gorgeous hair. She tucked her hair to the back of her ear, and somehow Kyungpyo stunned as he saw her doing that.

“Are you on holiday?” he asked her, getting curious with the girl beside him.

“Not really. I attended a summit for two days and then extending for extra trip. I need a gateway from my work…” she said, explaining her presence to him. “You?”

“I’m just bored. I came after my senior called me to meet him in Hong Kong…”

He didn’t hear her respond, so he looked at her. She was focusing her gaze to her phone. Kyungpyo gulped and nervously looked away once the girl changed her stare to him.

“Umm... Ok, I think I have to go. Hope you meet your senior as soon as possible. Bye” she waved at him and left.

Go Kyungpyo was left in dazed. He’s just encountered the most beautiful girl ever in his life and thank God he didn’t ruin anything. He didn’t stutter or mumbled or anything else… until he realized he made a mistake.

“Shoot! Why didn’t I ask her name and her number? MAN!” he cursed as he touched his forehead in desperation. He shook his head, knowing that he had just lost a good chance to get a girlfriend. Right when he stood up and about to call the girl, he heard a familiar voice.

“What’s wrong with you?”

Kyungpyo looked around and found his senior, Kim Hyunjoong, stood in front of him. “Hyung!”

“Been calling you but why you didn’t answer?” Hyunjoong waved his phone in front of Kyungpyo. He looked at his phone and realized that he’s being called. The girl must have been stolen his attention really bad that he didn’t even realize that his phone was ringing.

“I met a girl” he replied, smiling happily.

Hyunjoong chuckled and flicked Kyungpyo’s forehead. “I’ve set you for a date, and now you said that you met a girl?”

“Well, that’s different. She’s the girl I’ve been looking for. I’ll see the girl you’re about to introduce, but no, I won’t date her. So we’ll just meet her ok? And after that I’ll have to go to chase the girl I met earlier and-“

“Couldn’t you stop talking? Let’s meet my friend first” Hyunjoong said as he pulled Kyungpyo’s neck with his arm. “You’ve grown taller since I last saw you last summer, huh?”

“You didn’t take my word seriously, did you?” Kyungpyo pouted as Hyunjoong grinned widely.

“You said ‘She’s the girl I’ve been looking for’ every time you see a girl that stole your attention” Hyunjoong impersonated him and laughed. “How am I going to believe you?”

Kyungpyo frowned but still following his senior. Well, it’s true. He fell in love easily and always thought that every time he saw a girl that made him feeling a bit anxious and nervous, he’d define it as love. But as he easily fell in love, he also broke his heart very easily. And Hyunjoong was always there as the witness of Kyungpyo’s sloppy love stories.

They walked inside a café and took a seat. Kyungpyo still couldn’t forget the girl he met earlier, the Minnie Mouse girl. He played his iPhone, ignoring Hyunjoong who’s calling his friend to come over to the café. He’s left with the thought of what Hyunjoong said. He often fell in love too easily, but he reassured himself, that this particular girl that he just met was “the girl” and not just another fling.

“Hyunjoong!” a loud voice broke the silence between Hyunjoong and Kyungpyo. They saw a tall handsome man walked in the café, smiling happily. He hugged Hyunjoong and shook hand with Kyungpyo.

“Alone?” Hyunjoong asked, a bit doubting. The guy shook his head.

“Nana came along with me; she’ll just come here… She bought something for her niece, so she stopped by the store next door” he explained. “So who’s this?” Jae looked at Kyungpyo.

“Oh… Kyungpyo, this is Kim Jaejoong, my best friend” Hyunjoong said with a wide smile. Jaejoong formed a V sign, waving it.

“Oh so this is Kyungpyo the so called mini Hyunjoong?” Jaejoong replied with a big grin. Kyungpyo just replied with a big grin but soon his grin was lost, replaced by a huge gape in his mouth along with his idiot face. He just saw the girl, the Minnie Mouse girl, in front of him, getting inside the café. And the first thing he did was stood up in surprised.

Jaejoong and Hyunjoong watched Kyungpyo in confused as they didn’t understand why Kyungpyo suddenly stood up with a shock face.

“Jaejoong oppa…” Nana called Jaejoong as soon as she got inside the café. Hyunjoong and Jaejoong changed their glance from Kyungpyo who suddenly stood up to Nana. Kyungpyo then looked at Jaejoong and Hyunjoong and then to Nana.

They knew each other?!

“Oh…” Nana pointed to Kyungpyo and then slightly nodded her head, smiling. “Found your senior already?”

The last 45 minutes was spent by Kyungpyo to adore the girl in front of him. Her name is Im Jinah, with Nana as her nickname. She’s 3 years younger than him and been pursuing career as a buyer for a famous food company. Jaejoong hyung is her manager and both are pretty close. Even though Kyungpyo was at a loss of words due to her charm, he still managed to act cool and calm in front of her (with Hyunjoong and Jaejoong sometimes ).

They could communicate pretty well as she’s really friendly and shared similar interest with him. Kyungpyo couldn’t hide his big grin when he knew that she’s still single, thanks to Jaejoong who kept saying that these two should go out for a date. And Hyunjoong helped his favorite junior to have a date with his dream girl.

“Nana, do you have a plan tomorrow?” Hyunjoong asked as he ate the fries on the table.

Nana blankly looked at Jaejoong, who gave a confused look to Nana. “Do you have a plan?” Jae asked her. She simply shook her head, facing both.

“Do we have a plan tomorrow?” Nana slightly whispered to Jae.

“Well, I’m about to go to Macau tomorrow with Jae. Do you both want to join us?” Hyunjoong exchanged look with Nana and Kyungpyo.

“Why? You’re going to the hotel again?” Kyungpyo asked Hyunjoong, knowing that his senior was the heir of a famous hotel there. Hyunjoong slightly nodded.

At the mention of Macau, Nana slowly shook her head. “I think I’ll just stay here…”

“Then I guess you can hang out with Kyungpyo, then?” Hyunjoong slyly said, eating another fries.

Nana saw at Kyungpyo who smiled awkwardly. “Hyung…” Kyungpyo groaned. He’s done with all the tease done by these two hyungs. She let out a smile.

“Do you know Hong Kong?” she asked Kyungpyo.

Hyunjoong happily smacked Kyungpyo’s back. “He used to live here, so you can calmly walk around the city tomorrow”

Kyungpyo rolled his eyes to Hyunjoong, but couldn’t do much to avoid Nana’s gaze over him.

“So I guess it settled between you two?” Jaejoong joined the conversation.

“Um.. Nana” Kyungpyo called her as the four of them walked to Nana’s hotel which was not too far from Disneyland. Hyunjoong walked together with Jaejoong as they talked about their project together, leaving the two on their back.

“Yes?” she replied, looking at him. Nana felt Kyungpyo seemed to be more awkward compared to the first time she saw him earlier in the afternoon. She tried her best to ignore it but somehow, awkward Kyungpyo stole her attention.

“What time should I pick you up tomorrow?” he asked her, more like whispering.

Nana swore she saw him a bit blushed and somehow, she found it cute. “I’m not sure yet… Around 10?”

Kyungpyo nodded in agreement. “Ok, I’ll wait to the lobby tomorrow so you can wait in your room until the receptionist call you and then-“

“Kyungpyo” she cut his words. Kyungpyo stopped talking and looked at her. “Isn’t it easier if we exchange our number?” she waved her phone, trying so hard not laughing over his silly awkwardness.

Kyungpyo had his mouth parted a bit wide and then awkwardly nodded. “Ye-yeah, I was about to say that. So…” he looked at Nana, confused between asking her number or giving his number. Nana initiatively asked for his phone and saved her number there.

“Tomorrow at 10?” Nana said as she gave him back his phone.

“Yeah, tomorrow at 10. See you tomorrow”

“See you”

“Oppa…” Nana called Jaejoong when they walked side by side in the hotel alley. “Jae Oppa” she called him again.

“Yes?” Jaejoong replied while he looked at his phone, checking on emails.

“Answer in truth. You and Hyunjoong oppa planned these, right? Kyungpyo was another date, right?”

Jaejoong stopped talking and looked at her. He shook his head and simply said “Nope”

“But then, how could we met Hyunjoong oppa and suddenly met his junior also and out of the blue, we ended up going together tomorrow?”

“Fate?” Jae replied, squint his eyes and then smiled. Nana groaned, not satisfied with Jae’s answer.

Jaejoong cleared his throat before explaining. “I’ll be off to Macau tonight along with Hyunjoong and come back tomorrow afternoon here before we’re heading to Seoul. So,  how about go out for a date with Kyungpyo?”

“And why would I do that?” she frowned to his words. The idea of going for blind date annoyed her.

“Just for fun. You’ve haven’t gone around Hong Kong for quite a while, right? Plus, your Chinese friend is not here to take you around…”

Nana looked a bit hesitated. Well she’s been single for 9 months and she realized she still didn’t want to move on from Kris so…

“It’s just like hanging around Hong Kong with him, right?”

Jaejoong nodded. “He looks like a nice guy…” Jaejoong said.

Nana still remembered Kyungpyo’s face clearly. His smile was cute, Nana noticed. He seemed to be a playful and happy person. Even when she met him earlier, she could felt his nice vibe. It’s just Nana felt scared to start something new. Something like getting to know another person and slowly erased Kris from her life.

“Listen, if you’re not comfortable with this, then don’t do it” Jaejoong said as he looked deeply into Nana’s eyes. “Maybe I’m too selfish to think you need to move on or do things like that, because you’ve been torturing yourself lately, Nana. You’re here, laughing and staying with us, but I’m sorry, I didn’t really know the Im Jinah in front of me right now. You’re more like a person without soul. And if the case is about losing your love of your life, I’d say that’s ridiculous”

“Oppa…” Nana surprised to hear those words from Jaejoong. She knew, he’s not the only who said this things. Her parents were also feeling the same towards her. And Yoona also once told her that she’s been changing lately. Nana bit her lower lip, looking to the ground.

“I don’t want you to feel burdened… I just want you to hang out more often. Date doesn’t mean that you have to be in a relationship with him. Take it just as a method to get another friend, new circle…” Jaejoong added.

Nana looked at Jaejoong who’s slowly rubbed her hand, showing a weak smile. She replied with another smile. She knew she had been changed lately, avoiding anything that would remind her with Kris. But somehow, people around her noticed that she’s been changing her whole self.

“Ok…” she mumbled.

“What did you say?” Jaejoong asked her.

“I said okay… I’ll see him tomorrow” she replied as she opened her room. “Be good in Macau. No drink?”

“Promise you!”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Kyungpyo, are you sure we’re heading this way?” Nana looked around the area, not sure if the road to the cold noodle stall near Mongkok Market was passing a bunch of old houses nearby. She held the map in confused, while Kyungpyo also looked around. He shook his head.

“Well actually... I’m not good with direction…” Kyungpyo said in sorry. “Should I just call my driver?”

Nana saw Kyungpyo’s stress face and let a small laugh. He’s just cute that way. “What? You’re laughing at me?”

“Pfft… No, it’s just… You looked funny in that face… Hahaha…” she laughed.

“So what are we going to do now? Two Korean, lost in Hong Kong…” he sighed.

Kyungpyo was actually feeling really nervous to go with Nana today. But somehow, she made him felt comfortable around her so he could easily talk to her now. He yelled at Hyunjoong yesterday when he assured Nana that Kyungpyo knew the road in Hong Kong. He even learned from his driver about the road, but because he’s really bad with direction, he gave up.

“Should we just walk and head wherever our feet took us?” she said as she looked at the harbor near them.

“That’s like a line from a drama…” he commented as they walked together.

She smacked his arm and hissed. Nana honestly felt grateful to have a walk with Kyungpyo. He’s far from another guy Jae’s ever introduced to her. He’s kind and nice and all about getting lost in direction, but so far she likes his companion. He’s a warm person, with all of his silliness around her, but she’s fine with that.

She walked faster than him, and suddenly, drizzle started to form making them running a little. She looked at him on the back, Kyungpyo was busy calling someone. He motioned her to walk ahead from him. The rain is getting bigger and it’s getting harder to look around, Nana ran faster but suddenly she stopped walking. Right across her, someone stood tall under the umbrella. He wore a jeans and white shirt, and from her sight, it seemed like he looked at her but she’s not really sure.

Nana squint her eyes, still not sure with what she saw. If her feelings right, it’s none other than her ex-boyfriend, Kris. Nana froze in the road, ignored the rain that made her body wet. She was really sure that it was Kris, especially with the height of the body and his long legs. Somehow Nana wanted to go across the street, just to make sure that she’s not seeing Kris but just another guy.

But just before she stepped to go for the guy, something warm wrapped her and after that, everything went dark.
