Mission: Finding Im Jinah

Lost in Translation

"Cheers for the best partner the past 3 years!" Yoona yelled as she raised the beer glasses. Nana and Lizzy happily raised their glasses and cheered. Other workers from her departments were seen in the beef restaurant, celebrating her last day in the office.

After starting her beauty salon business along with Fei's assistance, Nana finally decided to quit her career in the office. She fully supported by her parents who wanted her to do things she likes, the things that had been her dream ever. Since she's a little, Nana always wanted to open her own beauty salon. She even took a professional class to be a makeup artist. So now, she's living her dream.

"Unnie, can I get a free make up in your salon?" Lizzy happily asked. Nana flicked her forehead softly and laughed.

"I can give you one free treatment, but you have to brought more customers to my salon!" she joked with her.

"I can give you more customers also! On my wedding day, all of my family members will just go to your salon to get their makeup done by you. How much free treatment can you give to me?" Yoona joined the conversation. The three laughed and giggled. Tonight would be about happiness and best memories they ever shared, Nana said in her mind.

"I'm gonna miss you all, girls!" she said as they hugged and when the hug was broken, Yoona and Lizzy started to sobbing. The three of them stood in front of the restaurant after eating and drinking, heading to their homes.

"Stop the tears, guys..." Nana said as she pouted and wiped Lizzy and Yoona's tears. "We'll see each other often, okay? Take care you all"

After they hugged again, Yoona and Lizzy went first with two different taxis. When both already left, Nana walked to the opposite direction. She hugged her body with her arms which covered by coat and shawl. Autumn had just about to end but it's already felt really cold like winter, she couldn't wait for spring to come. Before she continued walking, someone appeared in front of her. Go Kyungpyo.

He looked at her and gave her his cute smile. Nana replied with another smile which made him gave his hand to her. She took it and linked their arms together while walking. They had been together for around six or seven months, and it's already became her habit to link her hand to his arm.

"Don't you want to say something?" he asked her, making her looked at him in confused.

"I don't think I have anything to ask for..." she replied coyly.

"You haven't been seeing me for a month. Aren't you missing me?" he pouted like a spoiled little boy.

"Give me reason to miss you" she replied as they passed the intersection.

"My handsome face, my warm hug, my amazing voice, my cute dimples, what else..." as he rolled his eyes thinking, she giggled and then smacked him.

"You have to fix that prince syndrome" she coldly said. He smiled, wrapped her arms around her shoulder.

"Done with the farewell?" he asked, looking at her.

She softly nodded. "Yeah, it's done. No turning back now..." she said as she looked to the sky, took a deep breath. "Oh, I'll have to take several things in the office. Mind if I back to the office?"

"Sure, your wish is my command" he playfully answered her.

Nana smiled to Kyungpyo. Without she realized, they grew closer. He's currently the closest guy in her life. He's being a great company for her, and he felt the same towards her. He confessed to her last summer, but he didn't ask her to be his girlfriend. Somehow, he's not yet ready for a relationship, so he proposed her to be his company. But he stated that no way didn’t he have feelings for her, it's just for now he felt comfortable to be around her, befriend her.

While Kyungpyo stayed in the lobby, Nana went straight to her desk. She met several of workers and greeted them before she came to take her things in the table. She realized that she hasn't clean up her email ID so she her computer. She logged out from her ID and checked on the communicator. Her hands automatically clicked on it and she saw Kris had just online.

Her heart sank upon seeing his name. She wanted to talk to him again, but remembering that he's going to be married, she has no wide heart yet to voluntarily congratulate him. She suddenly remembered that this communicator was the item that connected her with him first. And she still had the copies of their conversations, but she had no gut to reopen it again. Not now.

No matter how curious she was towards him, Nana couldn't let her melancholy side broke the wall that she built in order to protect her heart. She's not ready to see him being someone else husband or to hear him telling her about his wedding plan. So she closed the communicator and logged off for the last time. The past better stayed on the back.

Good bye, Kris.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"How is he now?"

Tao read the sentence on his communicator clearly and frowned to Lay. He slowly shook his head, pretending to look confused towards his works. Lay caught his action and glanced at Chen who's also waiting Lay's update. Chen sighed as he looked at Lay's answer.

Ever since Kris broke up with Nana, he's kind of back to his old habit in the office: the angry bird face mode. And it affected none other than his friends in the head quarter. Gradually they became his prey whenever he got unsatisfied with his works. They thought that when he went for holiday in Hong Kong things would be changed as he's having the holiday after effect, but turned out it was only hope.

His mood was getting shallower. He's not angry anymore, but that's scarier. Kris became more solemn and quiet, rarely joined the party held by his friends. That's why Lay, Chen, and Tao felt really worried about him. They didn't dare to ask him about Nana and acted like there's nothing really happened.

When Tao was laid back, suddenly Kris sighed and put his chin in between his hands. He's shocked with that movement, because Kris rarely moved or talked so sudden lately. Tao straightened his seat and looked at him in care.

"Anything bothering you?" he asked softly.

Compared to Chen and Lay, Tao was not that really close with Kris. Maybe the age different made them not too close, but Tao likes the company of his senior, especially Kris whom he looked for.

"I just realized something" Kris hung his words, playing with his fingers. Tao waited patiently before he spoke again. "When I broke up with Nana, she once asked me if I could leave my life in LA to come to her in Seoul. That time, I couldn't answer because I think I have to settle several things before I could go to her. But now that she left me, all I want is leaving LA"

"To be with her?" Tao responded to Kris words. He nodded slowly, realizing that the youngest could be a good listener.  This was the first time that Kris talked about things outside works in the work place with him. Tao coughed before he replied Kris.

"Maybe this sounds cheesy, but I think I have an answer for your problem. My mom once said that home is whenever she's with my father. I don't understand it at first, but judging from your case I think I got what she said now"

Kris put a thought on Tao's words. "So you mean..."

"Maybe Nana is your home, that's why when she left you, you felt lost"

Kris chuckled and made a dry laugh. "That's the answer I've been looking for, I guess? And it took me more than a year to realize it. How stupid am I?"

"You're not stupid. It's just, love really likes to make its victims lost their sanity" Lay's voice heard from his back along with Chen.

"You really have to stop your eavesdropping habit, Zhang Yixing" Kris said as he playfully smacked Lay's arm.

"You have time to punch his hands? Seriously, catch your train, Team Leader!" Chen said as he pulled his fist to the air. Tao covered his face, feeling embarrassed with this senior of him. Kris looked at Chen in confused, absentmindedly shook at his words.

"What are you waiting for? Call her and tell her you loved her!" Chen exclaimed.

Lay chuckled and patted his shoulder. "You have to understand woman. A woman wanted to be treated exclusively. He stopped communicating with her more than a year. She will ditch him once he suddenly appeared in front of her and tell her how much he loves her"

Kris nodded in agreement with Lay. "Yeah, that's kind of true. Continue"

"I think you can come to her with a bouquet of flowers and chocolate. Send her a letter every day, hinting that it's you... Woman likes surprise. I bet she'll love you back once you do those sweet things in secret for her" Lay ended his theory in proud.

"I'm sorry to meddle in the middle of your talk, Guys. But seriously? Flower and chocolate? Please. You in relationship" Krystal joined their circle, while pointing at Lay. Tao and Chen laughed when they saw Krystal jabbed Lay's pride right on his heart, leaving Lay dropped his jaw widely. She ignored Lay and turned to Kris.

"I'm giving you advice as a girl, Kris. The key is communication. Talk with her again first; get to understand her condition now. I bet she already had a lot changes in her life" Krystal softly said to Kris.

"Oh uh" Kris touched his forehead. "She probably had a boyfriend already. You know, the guy that I saw in Hong Kong with her..."

"Are you sure that he’s her boyfriend?" Krystal asked him. Kris shook his head.

"I saw them twice together, and because she seemed to be close with him, I thought that he's her boyfriend"

"You judged based on your assumptions. Do you have any proof that he’s her boyfriend?”

Kris shook his head.

“You better start to talk with her again and checked, whether your assumption is right or not" she said as she winked at him.

Kris smiled. He didn't know that he's actually surrounded by great friends in his life. The first thing he did was checking on the clock, it's around 1 PM in Seoul and she supposed to be awakened by now. He took his phone and called her; mailbox. Kris then texted her, but it's said that the number was not active anymore. Kris started to think that there's something wrong.

He used the communicator. She supposed to be online at this time, but somehow he couldn't find her name on the list.

"Tao could you check on Nana's name in the communicator? Why I couldn't find her name?" Kris asked Tao. The youngest looked at his screen and typed her name. He tried again, surprised with the result. He retried for the fourth times, but the result still same: there's no Nana's name. Kris was confused, why her name couldn't be seen on the list.

"Mmm... Kris, I think it'd be a little harder to contact Nana now..." Krystal said in hesitant.

"What do you mean by that?" Tao asked her.

"I've just talked to one of my friends in Seoul Head Quarter. She said that...she's already resigning from the company"

It's silence. Everyone was surprised with the news, especially Kris. He had no idea that she would resign and just left without a word.

"When was she resigning from the company?" Chen asked Krystal.

"I think it's around summer, so probably it's before the New Year..."

Kris had no idea where to search for her. He didn't know her exact address in Seoul and he truly clueless on where she would be. He just realized another thing. Maybe after all, he didn't really know the girl whom he loved.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Are you sure you don't need my company in Taiwan?" Kyungpyo asked Nana once again before she went to the check in area in the airport. She nodded, reassuring him.

"I'll be fine. Plus it's not my first time in Taiwan" she replied.

Kyungpyo looked a bit hesitant but he really has to go before seeing her checking in. Now that he's becoming the project manager for the toy company, he had only a few times for Nana. Plus, he’ll be away from Seoul until New Year, which means he couldn’t celebrate New Year with Nana.

"You know you can always call me when something happened, right? Just call me when you need something, Nana" he said, smiling to her. “Are you sure you don’t want to go somewhere warm for the New Year? Like South East Asia countries?”

"Hahaha no… Let’s just meet after New Year, okay? Thanks, Kyungpyo"

He hugged her and after bid her a good bye, he then left to his car. After Kyungpyo left her, Nana was changing her direction. She was just pretending in front of everyone that she's going to Taiwan. She had her own plan for the spring and it would only include herself.

She walked to another boarding place and got in there. She smiled happily to herself; it'd be a nice early year gateway. She browsed happily on her iPad, wondering her mini adventure in Japan would be really interesting. Japan was like second home for her and it seemed to be the best gateway for now.

There's a reason why she didn't want to tell anyone about her trip: she needs her ‘me-time’ before she started working on her business. Well, people could say that she actually tried to fix her broken heart, but she took it as a phase which she has to pass in order to continue her life. Talking about the broken heart thingy, she got the invitation sent by Victoria. It's still in the package, she didn't even open it.

Nana decided to forget Kris, because he forgot her earlier. She felt really stupid to still hoping to be with him. She's the one who wanted to end their relationship, yet she’s the one who hold still. But somehow, she couldn't find reason to get angry to him. She still longed for him and she knew that’s wrong. But she knew that she should start afresh.

Maybe, maybe Kris was just not meant for her…

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What? You asked me what? Find Nana for you?" Yoona repeated what she heard earlier from Kris. "You came all the way from LA just for this?"

They met less than 10 minutes and Kris already told her about his situation, asking for help. She was really surprised to see him in the office lobby, looking to meet her. All she heard was Kris wanted to get back to Nana again but he couldn't find her anywhere.

"Why would you do that, Kris?" Yoona asked him seriously.

Kris frowned at Yoona, a little confused with her response. "Yoona, I love her. Don't you get it?"

"What? Aren't you going to get married?" she asked him in shock.

This time, it’s Kris who looked shock.

"Me? Married? Who?" he replied her, confused. Now both of them looked puzzled to each other. "From where did you hear about this?"

Yoona covered with her hands. "Oh God, what's this all about? Did you know that she went to Hong Kong last spring?"

"I met her there..."

"Yeah and she said that she saw you along with your wife-to-be. And the moment she knew that you're going to be married, she's really crushed. Seriously, was that entire thing not true?"

Kris frowned, thinking about the words that Yoona said. He being married? How come people knew he’s going to be married while he’s still looking for Nana?

“I was there, meeting her along with my cousin. I don’t think she ever saw me with any other girl, I spent my days there just with my cousin…” he said, remembered his las t holiday in Hong Kong. “I don’t think there’s any talk about marriage…” Kris stopped talking and looked at Yoona with a horror on his face.

"Shoot!" he clapped his hands, realizing something. "She must have thought that I’m going to marry to Vic. Oh . Vic...I mean Victoria, she is my cousin, Yoona. And that day, I was just come to the hotel to pick her up. She's about to be married this spring. Shoot!"

"Kris, are you serious? You're not lying to me, right?"

"You can call my family, no one will answer yes" he said in desperation. He couldn't believe that Nana thought that he’ll be married just because she saw him with Victoria. Kris covered his face with his palm. He couldn’t lose Nana just because of this…

Yoona cleared , looking wary at him. She's a bit hesitated at first, but she thought that it's for Nana's own good, so she nodded and decided to tell him.

"Kris... Actually, Nana told us where she went... She's in Taipei now"

"Taipei?"

God, Nana... Why is it so hard to see you?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's still really early in the morning, but Nana already started her routine every time she visited the cold beach which she likes. It's her favorite place to visit. She found it accidentally with her father when she's 8; it soon became her escapism. This morning, her mood was as gloomy as the beach. She read an email from Yoona, telling her that what she thought was wrong. Kris was not going to marry anyone anytime soon and that he actually looked for her. And Yoona also informed him that she's in Taiwan, so Kris was on his way to Taiwan.

In one point, Nana was happy that she actually thought wrong. Yeah, Kris didn't marry for now, but he also did nothing to her. Why would he suddenly looking for her? She thought. Nana tightened her coat and shawl; she chose to walk with her eyes closed. She sulked herself on the coat, feeling empty. At the end of the year last year, she’s broke up with Kris and feeling all sad about it. Now, it’s already the end of the year again, and she’s still trying to cure her broken heart.

What a poor soul I am…

Nana continued to enjoy the beach, felt the wet sand on her feet. The birds were coming to the quiet beach, did not want to lose the serenity in the place. It's so silent, until her phone rang.

She peeked and found her mom's name on the screen.

"Hi, Mom"

"Hi Honey, how are you? Is Japan good?" her mom replied. She smiled, knowing that her mom must be calling her like this. Her parents were the only person knew her current location.

"Yeah, it's fine... It's nice here, Mom"

"Honey, did you happen to have a boyfriend currently?" her mom suddenly asked. Nana raised one of her eyebrows.

"What are you talking about, Mom?"

"Well, two days ago, there's a Chinese guy coming to our house…"

With that clue, she already guessed who was the person her mom talking about. And just like she longing for his presence, he was suddenly stood in front of her. Nana surely felt her jaw dropped widely as soon as she saw him. He motioned her to continue her phone call, while he stood there, watching her. Nana was actually lost her concentration over the phone and it made her mom asking her more.

"Nana, Darling, are you there?"

Nana snapped into reality and quickly answered her mom. "Ye-yes, Mom?"

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, Mom. I’m fine… It’s just…” she glared at Kris. “What did the guest do in our home?" she asked her mom, but more likely asking Kris. He smiled softly, making her knee weak. Gee, after all this time, his smile still did magic on her.

"I’m not sure if you already knew this or not, but he proposed you to us, Honey” her mom said with a happy tone, seemed like she really likes the ‘guest’ that she’s been talking about. Nana almost lost her grip to the cell phone on her hand as she heard the word ‘proposed’. Kris continued watching her in front of him, sometimes looking around the beach, fixing his shawl or the beanies that covered his yellow hair.

“Honey, we both felt more than happy to have such a gentle guy like him proposing you. Your dad and I fully agree that we give you our blessing as long as you're happy with your own choice. I told him where you are so he can ask you directly. He should be arrived by now. Have you met him?"

Nana truly couldn't say anything. Her mom told her that she's just being proposed by the man she loves. And he stood in front of her currently, looking at her with his sharp eyes. She ended the call from her mom and promised to call her again later on. She sighed, facing Kris.

"Why are you running away?" was the first thing he managed to say towards Nana, walking closer to her.

"I'm not" she shook her head. The sounds of the waves in the beach were the only thing they heard now. He took a deep breath and looked at her again.

"Can we talk? We have to catch up lots of things ever since we broke up..." he said, glancing at her. How he missed seeing those pair of eyes looking at back him like now.

"About how you're actually not going to married? I got it, Kris. That's my fault. It's just a misunderstanding" she didn't know why, but Nana felt like letting out her anger towards him. And somehow, Kris was also on the limit of his patience so both were using harsh and cold tone towards each other.

"I'm not ing leaving LA and took long hours flight here just for this. Do you have any idea how crazy I was the past weeks? I tried to call you hundred of times, but no answer. I went to Seoul, looking for you. I just knew from Yoona that you thought that I was about to be married to Vic, which was so ridiculous. And after your parents told me where actually you are, I felt so blessed that I actually can find you..." he stopped talking, catching a breath. "I couldn't let you go anymore"

"Have you ever considered that I might already move on from you, Kris? Remembering that we broke up for quite a long time and there seemed to be no contact between us, not until when we met in Hong Kong..." she responded to him, searching for his eyes. Those deep eyes…

His face stiffened. "Yeah I realized that there's this one particular guy that I saw. Are you... Are you in a relationship with him?" he asked his greatest fear.

"We dated several times, tried to get along with each other. He's nice though, very different from you in so many ways" she paused, looking at his reaction. Kris was still showing his stiff face, no emotion. "And I was in the middle of thinking actually, whether to continue this or not... because we seemed to be fine together..."

He looked for her eyes. This was the girl he missed a lot and he couldn't bear the fact that she might leave him for another guy. He created the time out sign with his hands.

"I could do nothing with your decision. Maybe I was wrong, maybe I was the only one who thought th-" he stuttered, couldn’t find any words to say to her.

"You were never really listening, huh?" she said as she cut his words. He looked at her with a puzzled mind. "I wished you never had this kind of 'power' over me, Kris. Because no matter how hard I tried to start something new, you just stayed there. No one seemed possible to replace you. And this is so funny how I’m really afraid that I have to put you aside from my life. I... I don't want you to be out from here..." she softly appointed at her chest.

She blushed at her own words. All of her angers disappeared, placed by a longing feeling of him. Kris let his mouth slightly opened, he actually predicted at least got a slap from her. So after all this tiring days of waiting, he finally knew that he’s not the only one who felt this way. He dared himself to move closer to her and slowly touched her hand. Nana looked at their hands and looked away to Kris.

“What we’ve done after the break up, huh?” he said, chuckled at his own words. “Apparently we’re torturing ourselves…”

Nana felt the burdened in her heart finally free as she responded to his hand. She missed his big hand, covering her own. “I’m so stupid to ever asking for break up with you…” she softly said, hitting her own forehead.

“And I’m such an idiot not trying to hold on you. I never felt so regretful in my whole life… And that’s all because of you, Miss Im. Thank God I met your parents, if not, maybe I’m already deserted in Taipei” he said again, smiled widely to her. She shyly smiled towards him. This felt stupid, both of them kept smiling to each other, truly like two idiots.

“So….” She said as she saw their tangled hands. Kris looked at it too and looked at Nana. He took a deep breath.

“I want you to come back to my life. I know there’s something before you; I just can’t remember what it was… “ he said as he placed his gaze to Nana. She caressed his cheeks softly with her free hand, getting closer to him inch by inch. She touched his shoulder and after thinking for a while, she wrapped her arms on his shoulder, tiptoed hugging him. Kris automatically wrapped his hands on her waist, drown his chin on her shoulder.

“You tickled me, Kris…” she said as she moved her shoulder away from his chin. He laughed, but he held her still. He kissed her hair softly.

“I love you, Im Jinah” he whispered to her ear, making her stopped moving.

Kris tightened their hug, making her pulled herself away from him. Nana looked at him in the eye, placing her hands on his chest. They’re so close to each other that she could clearly saw his face. She felt his heart beating fast, just like hers. She didn’t know what to do so she just touched his chest with her palm, smiling to him.

“I love you too, Kris” she managed to reply him. He cleared his throat before he talked again, a bit hesitated and looked really not confident with himself.

“What’s wrong, Kris?” she asked him.

It’s cold, but Kris swore that he felt really hot inside and sweat started to form at the back of his neck. Kris was just looking really awkward right now. Nana couldn’t help but stared at him, guessing what’s wrong with him.

“I have my confidence ever since I left LA… but now that I see you, I’m really scared…”

“What is it?” she asked him, wondering what his problem was.

He took another deep breath and looked at her.

“I felt really blessed that God ever sent you to my life, Nana. And now that we’re back together, I don’t think I would ever want a life without you” he stopped, looking at her reaction. Nana was still listening to his words. “Im Jinah, do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?”

Nana felt her heart beat faster that it’s already and her stomach was kind of having a little tsunami inside. Her fingers were trembled, losing her grip on his shoulder. He finally popped the question. She was sure with everything on him and she thought that they could never had enough with themselves, so there’s nothing held her to answer him. He still looked at her, waiting.

“Are you… asking me to be your wife?”

“No, I’m asking you to be my working partner. Oh my God, Nana. Of course I’m asking you to be my wife, what else would you be in my life?” he said to her, kind of frustrated with her answer.

She let out a smile and then crashed her lips to him. He curled up his lips forming a little smirk. He closed the gap between them, placing his right hand on the back of her neck. He felt her lips on him, kissing her back eagerly. It’s just a short kiss, but they’re feeling so happy about it. When she broke the kiss, both of them were just smiling.

“Is that a yes?” he asked her, still with his hand on the back of her neck. She smiled and pulled herself away from him.

“Well, I guess getting a Wu as my family name didn’t sound so bad…” she coyly replied, continued walking on the beach.

Nana winked at Kris who was still frozen in his position, tried to realize her answer. He let out a smile, following her. He’ll be finally ended up with his one and only love in the world. Before she knew it, Kris intertwined his fingers with hers, deeply holding it. She just chuckled at him, but squeezed back at his hand.

“Don’t forget to bring me the diamond ring… How come you proposed me without a ring?” she playfully said to him.

“My kiss is more precious than the ring” he calmly replied.

“Still acting like a prince… Your kiss can’t be put as infestation; the diamond ring can be put in the bank and made quite money…” she stuck her tongue out.

They walked pass the beach, laughing to each other. He loved this kind of moment they had together. The storm in their relationship passed already, it’s just now all about rainbow and the light sun.

“Kris” she called him.

“Yes?”

“Don’t ever let my hands go again, okay?”
