I Remember

I was starting to recover. It wasn't as if I was suddenly remembering months and months of memory or anything, but I remembered things none the less. Just like how I remembered Jaejoong's tattoo, I also remembered my new boss when he came to visit, even thought I couldn't remember his name, only that he was my boss and I needed to bow respectfully. Most of the times, the memories came when I was least expecting it, and Niel, Yongguk, and Jaejoong started to random shoot questions at me. to my surprise, I was able to blurt out my new phone number and Jaejoong's birthday, even though I really had no idea how I knew any of those things. "What's my cat's name?" This was one of those time. Jaejoong and I had been in the middle of a conversation about a new crime show on television when he'd suddenly shouted the question at me. I stared at him, opened mouthed. He had a cat? But he did have a cat. It was gray, and fluffy, and it's name was..."JiJi..." "You're right, Ara!" Jaejoong cheered, mouth breaking into a gorgeous smile. He hugged me even closer to him, and leaned down to kiss my cheek. "Really?" I asked, eyeing him cynically. "You named your cat JiJi?" "Actually, you named her," Jaejoong replied, grinning. "But the name is actually quiet fitting." "Oh god, she was my cat at first, wasn't she?" I just had this gut feeling that I knew what had happened. "Neh," Jaejoong laughed. "You were so excited, but then you found out that Niel was allergic to cats. You made the right choice and choose to keep your brother, so I took the cat. She likes me more than you now, anyway." I shook my head ruefully, laying back down. It was my last night in the hospital, and we were both sitting in my hospital bed, cuddling under the covers. No, there were definitely not supposed to be two people on this at one time, but I asked asked that nobody disturb me for a few hours. It felt good to be in Jaejoong's arms, because it was familiar, even if I didn't understand why. The way he propped his arm behind my neck and laid my head on his shoulder was comfortable. Absentminded, my fingers again started to trace lines on his chest where he had said the tattoo was. Jaejoong made a little noise of contentment, and closed his eyes slightly. "Jaejoong?" My sudden question made him open his eyes again, and he looked down at me. "Can I....can I see it? The tattoo, I mean?" Jaejoong was silent for a second, expression unreadable. Then he nodded, and reached up to undo his tie. Jaejoong had come over right after work, and was still dressed in his designer suit. I took the black tie from him as Jaejoong undid the first three buttons of his shirt, and pulled it aside. The tattoo was right where I had known it to be, in looping script, spelling out the words 'always keep the faith' I was hoping for a memory flash, but nothing. I sighed, disappointed, as I continued to trace the letters. "Ara." Jaejoong's voice pulled me out of my reverie and I turned to look at him. He had a gentle expression on his face, one of understanding and overflowing warmth. "It's okay if you never remember, Ara," he whispered. "I'll start over and rebuild our love." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally, I was going to get released from the hospital. My release papers had all been signed, and at 9:00am, I would finally be able to go home. Niel and Yongguk were coming to help me pack up the last of my things. I had thoughts that Jaejoong would be here to see me as well, but he had texted to let me know that the congressman had some important event today to attend to and that he needed to be there. "I'm going to miss having you around, Ara," Sunny told me as she gathered the bedding and things to clear for the next patient. "I liked having you here. What am I going to do to entertain myself without the steady flow of good looking guys visiting you to look at?" I grinned at her, and winked. "There's always Dr. Choi..." Her eyes lit my mischievously. "Oh good, so it's not just me." "Are you kidding?" I laughed, giving her a hug. "That man looks like he belongs in a magazine. Or maybe on Grey's Anatomy. He's Korean version of Dr. Mcdreamy." Giggling, Sunny pulled out the
