Almost Ready
The Things They Learned
For over 24 hours April’s stare remained fixed. Leeteuk, Kangin, Siwon and Donghae had all come and gone. At 8PM on the fifth day Yesung had come again. He did his duty though he was unhappy about having to deal with April’s ‘creepy’ stare. He refused to sit in front of her or to talk to her or show her anything. He pulled the chair to the corner where he couldn’t see her eyes. He brought a book and his iPod and was trying to block out the sights and sounds of the experience. For about an hour he was able to remain set but eventually he needed to use the restroom. He crossed in front of the bed in order to leave the room; something stopped him right before the door. He got the chills; he had the feeling like he was being watched. He turned back, everything seemed the same as it had been, April was still staring at the wall.
Upon returning Yesung got the same feeling again but he was quicker this time. He turned around as the chills set in. He was looking right at April and she was looking right at him. No longer staring lifelessly at the wall April was looking at Yesung and seeing him. Still creeped out Yesung decided to experiment. He slowly walked to the other side of the room, her eyes followed him there, he walked back and they tracked him again. Yes she could definitely see him. Yesung thought this might mean that she was finally present. “H-how are you feeling?” He asked not sure if he wanted to hear an answer. April looked into his eyes as he spoke to her but did not move an inch. “Can you hear me?” She continued to watch him as if reading the look on his face. Yesung surmised that she wasn’t fully there yet. This was really feeling like a lengthy process. Once Kyuhyun had been out for three days and that had felt like an eternity, but that was much different than this. When he had come to it was like waking up from a deep sleep, it was the same Kyuhyun just really tired and groggy. After more than five days this girl didn’t speak or move and only just now seemed to acknowledge ones presence. Yesung had a moment of panic, could there be brain damage? Was she ever going to be normal again? How would they take responsibility for this? He had to calm himself. He sat down out of her view and she made attempt to turn and see him. He went over different scenarios in his head; he pondered the scenarios so deeply he didn’t feel the time pass, before he knew it Sungmin had arrived.
April saw a pale Asian man with dark hair walk past her. The man frightened her, she didn’t know who he was. The man stopped and she quickly looked back at the wall not wanting the man to know that she was watching. While he was gone she took in her surroundings. April ascertained that she was in a hospital though she had no idea why. She didn’t feel well, her insides hurt as well as her leg, and she had a headache. The man was coming in the doorway; she looked back at the wall. She couldn’t help but watch him pass her and suddenly he spun around. She was caught; he was looking right at her. She couldn’t make herself look away. He made a show of walking back and forth again and this time April didn’t hide that she was watching him. He started to speak to her, he looked nervous. His mouth was moving but nothing was coming out. ‘Wait, something must be coming out, why can’t I hear it?’ She wanted to open to tell him that she couldn’t hear him but her mind and wouldn’t connect. She couldn’t move she could only stare, she wanted to cry but she couldn’t even do that. She was a prisoner in her own body.
