The Life Cycle of a Tree

Chapter Eight

She watched the sun rise until it was fully visible. She already felt the warmth coming from it and felt content. She felt a small smile creep up onto her face. No matter how different EXO and her home planet were, they were similar in a lot of ways too.

“It’s really a nice sight, isn’t it?” She whispered.

“It is.” Sehun replied back, although she wasn’t really expecting an answer. She sighed and rubbed her arms, attempting to create some more heat. Sehun seemed to notice.

“I'll be done soon, so you can head back inside and I’ll serve you breakfast.” Sehun gently told her. She blinked up at him, processing what he just told her. She nodded once before turning around and walking back into the RV.

She quietly entered, remembering Luhan was still sleeping.  She couldn’t help herself and went a little closer to the bed Luhan was currently occupying. She tiptoed closer until she was maybe a few feet away. Luhan was sleeping soundly on his stomach with a lone leg popping out from under the duvet. His doll-like face at that moment looked like it could rival an angel’s. She quickly took that thought back though when Luhan let out a strong snort in his sleep.

She giggled silently behind her hand and ran her eyes over Luhan with mischievous thoughts in mind. She inched closer and closer to his face. She took a deep breath in and blew lightly. She was not happy when there was no reaction. She took another deep breath in and blew harder. This time Luhan’s peaceful sleeping expression looked puzzled. Triumph. One more deep breath in and she blew again. This time Luhan’s hand sneaked out from under the covers and swatted at the air in front of his face. Oh, she was having fun now.

Before she could go for another round an arm appeared from behind her and shook Luhan. She jumped back in fright and found herself stumbling into someone’s hard chest. An arm snuck its way around her waist in order to stabilize her. When she was stable, she looked directly up and was greeted with the sight of Sehun staring down at her.

“What a sight to wake up to…” She immediately looked away from Sehun and turned her attention onto Luhan who was now sitting up in bed. He raised his eyebrow and nodded his head in their direction. She looked down at her waist, which Sehun still had his arm around. She quickly jumped away from him and turned her gaze somewhere else awkwardly.

“Breakfast is ready.” Sehun muttered, rapidly turning around and walking away. She blinked after him and was wondering how he could leave her alone with Luhan to explain the situation. And with the look in Luhan’s eyes, she knew wasn’t going to get away scot free.

“I-it’s not what you think!” She exclaimed, waving her hands in front of her, “I-I was going to wake you up and he came up from behind me and he scared me, which made me lose my balance and-“

“Okay! Okay…I get it. It’s too early for small awkward panic attacks. I was just playing with you.” Luhan said while stretching and pulling the duvet to the side. He walked up to her and patted her down on the shoulder. “By the way, I have a feeling that wind I felt in my dream, wasn’t just a dream.” Her eyes widened in shock.

“You were awake?” She asked. But, he looked so peaceful... and his reactions too. He raised his eyebrows in a playful manner.

“And I would have jump out at you too if it wasn’t for Sehun. “ He took a step toward her. She felt a strong tug and found herself flush against Luhan’s body as he grabbed her around her waist. “And then I would have been the one to keep you balanced.”  He smirked down at her with a slight evil look to his stare. There was a pause between them before Luhan swooped down and smacked his lips against her cheek. He coolly separated himself from her and walked away, chuckling to himself.

She, on the other hand, was anything but cool. Her hand raced to her cheek in shock. Her embarrassment soon turned into frustration. Damn boys and their god damn charms! She shrieked in her head and stomped her feet, trying to hold in her anger.

“Ileana!” Sehun shouted from the kitchen of the motorhome. She stopped immediately and straightened herself up.

“Coming!” She shouted back. She promised herself that was the last time she’d let them get the best of her.

So, she managed to uphold some dignity as breakfast passed. When they finished Luhan immediately went behind the wheel and they started on their journey back to the City. Sehun and Luhan discussed energy related things that seemed too complicated for her to really understand. But that was all right with her. She kept herself busy with the window next to the couch. The scenery was ever changing, from fields, to forests and to beaches. As they continued on their way, she started to see areas become more populated. And soon enough, she saw the skyscrapers ahead. And boy, were they ever skyscrapers.

“Hey!” She called out to the front of the RV. Sehun looked back at her, “Which Sector are we entering?”

“Sector K. Actually, you’ll have to hide so the gatesmen won’t see you when we get there.” Sehun commented. He unbuckled his seatbelt and made his way over to where she was situated on the couch.

“Why do I have to hide? Does Sector K not allow visitors?” She asked as she stood up to follow after Sehun.

“Not unidentified visitors. I’m guessing you don’t own a Sector ID.” Sehun replied, eyeing her. She frowned. This planet EXO had some serious civilian trust issues.

“No, I left that in my other pair of pajamas. Next time I’ll be sure to bring it.” She muttered back, hoping he didn’t actually hear her. But Sehun, the god of perfect senses, of course heard her. He snorted and shot a small smile at her. He opened a door and nodded his head to the interior of the small room.

“The lavatory, really?” She asked, eyeing it with distaste.

“Would you rather be trapped in a cell after being investigated, poked and prodded for hours?” She quickly rushed into the enclosed quarters, muttering for misfortunes to fall upon Sehun as she did. Sehun chuckled as he closed the door after her. How long she was stuck in there, she wasn’t quite sure. But when the door opened she was more than ready to run out. Sehun gave her a curious look to which she frowned back.

“I’m not fond of small boring places, okay?” She supplied as she stomped back to her seat on the couch. He shook his head as he walked past her and back into the passenger seat next to Luhan.

She couldn’t believe her eyes. It was like she was in the present and future at the same time. Flying fancy robotic looking machines were everywhere, busying themselves with different tasks. There were regular things like food stands, cars and bicycles about the streets as well. Also, the people dressed weirdly. It seemed the shinier and more ornate you were, the better.

"Do they all really dress that way?" She mumbled as she observed the people she passed.

"What's wrong with the way they dress?" She jumped back and whipped around to see Sehun looking out the same window.

"Oh, well. It's just back home we don't dress like that. It's much too ornate in comparison to what we usually wear." She explained, turning back around to face the window.

“You’ll have to get used to it, because you’ll have to wear clothes like that in order not to stick out. When we get to the shop, I should be able to find you a change of clothes. You can’t exactly go out with the clothes you have now.” Sehun commented, eyeing her up and down with a judgmental gaze. She grimaced a little, imagining the crazy little outfits that Sehun would put her in. “Oh, and I’ll also give you some shoes.”

“Really?” She asked. She immediately regretted saying it when she saw the smirk form on his face.

“Yes. I will find you shoes.” He chuckled and ruffled her hair, which made her jump with slight surprise.

The RV came to a stop which made her turn back to the window and examine her surroundings. She wanted to memorize everything in sight. It seemed that they were in a lower class neighborhood, though that’s only in comparison to what she saw earlier on…with the people weirdly clothed.

“First stop, Trinkets and Things! Please secure all personal baggage and safely exit the side door. Thanks for choosing Luhan’s RV services!” Luhan shouted from up front. She looked over her shoulder and saw Sehun throwing a backpack over his shoulder along with other stuff she wasn’t sure were for exactly.

She didn’t care though. She had revenge on her mind. A revenge that poor Luhan would be on the receiving end of. She trekked herself over to the front of the RV where he was sitting. She sat down on his arm rest and looked through the windshield.

“Smooth driving, captain.” She remarked, smirking down at him. He smiled back.

“Thank you. Our passengers' pleasure is always our number one concern.”  She tried hard not to roll her eyes.

“Oh, I’m sure. So, I’m guessing you’ll contact Sehun with any advancement in regards to the mission.” She asked. He nodded affirmatively.

“Yes, of course.”

“Good.”

There was a pause.

“It was nice meeting you Luhan.”

“It was nice meeting you Ileana.” She smiled down at him.

“I hope to see you soon Luhan.”

“I hope to see you soon Ileana.”

“Goodbye Luhan.” She made a move to make it seem like she was getting up.

“Goodbye Ilea-“ She quickly swooped down and planted her lips dangerously close to his. She waited, one, two, three, four and five seconds before removing them and standing up. She dusted herself off and walked away, making sure to sway her hips as she did.

Take that, hot shot.

She opened the side door and jumped out of the motorhome to a waiting Sehun.

“What took so long?” He asked, looking irritated. She smirked his way.

“Oh, just a little revenge. Though I do regret not being able to see his face.” She replied in melodic tone.

“What?” Sehun asked, clearly confused.

“Don’t worry about it.” She patted him on the shoulder. She looked to the building in front of her. A little run down, but it had its charm. “Cute.” She said, looking at the store in front of her.

“What?” He asked again. She pointed in front of her.

“The store dummy.” She winked before walking toward the entrance door. She pushed open the door, sounding a bell and walked inside. It was a cute little shop, with miscellaneous things all about.  A second bell rang when Sehun entered behind her. She looked around, playing with a few things. She heard some shuffling behind her and turned around.

She froze when her eyes met with another’s. They had a familiar glazed look to them to which she recognized as the statuesque boy’s from the vision.

“Kai, this is Ileana.” Sehun voice rang out in the shop.

“Ileana, meet Kai.”
