Forty Five

The Life Cycle of a Tree

Chapter Forty Five

Time was slowing down. At least, that’s what Ileana concluded when she stared down the clock hanging in her kitchen. She realized the night before she actually had no idea how the plan for that day was going to work. Apparently, her getting all made up for some ministers was more important than being told of how the actual invasion was going to go. So, her imagination filled in the gaps with different scenarios; both good and bad. Either way, it was safe to say she did not sleep the night before.

When the doorbell rang, Ileana bolted to the door. Swinging it open, she saw Kris dressed sharply in all black. “Ready?”  Ileana nodded firmly and closed the door behind her. A tense silence hung above them until they made it to Kris’ car outside Lay’s building.

Kris turns on his car and starts driving, “Phone Suho.” He commands dryly and a few buttons on the dashboard lite up while a ringing sound echoed in the car.

“Hello?”

“Tao and you can proceed to the Defense and Justice Headquarters.”

“Affirmative. See you soon.”

And the call ended.  Ileana takes in a deep breath, “So, how exactly are we going to do this?”

“Don’t worry about it. We have everything under control.”  Kris replies, not taking his eyes off the road.

Ileana slowly turns her head and stared, “So, you’re not going to tell me how we’re doing this?” Kris didn’t offer a reply. “You’re kidding, right? You’re just going to let me go in blindly?”

“Be thankful you’re even coming, a few of us were against it. In the end, we decided that you needed to be there since you have an important role in all this. Just…do what we say and everything will be fine.” The way Kris voiced out the statement left no room for Ileana to argue. So, biting her tongue, she stared out the side window in a huff.

Anxiety grew within Ileana at every stop light and turn. She watched the people outside and started wondering. How would they react to the rebellion? Would they take nicely to it? Would they be surprised? What would happen if they failed? Will the civilians suffer the consequences? Shaking her head, she told herself to think optimistically. She had to give her trust to what Kris and the others had planned. She knew if any group of people could take over a corrupted government, it would be them.

Eventually Kris to a private driveway that was blocked off by an impressive wired frence. Kris braked right next to a machine in the middle of the driveway and tapped a card onto a pad. With a beep, the fence started to roll open. They continued driving down until a modern but still majestic building came into sight. Kris took a right and drove down what appeared to be the entrance of a parking garage. Using the same card to enter the garage, Kris found a parking space and parked.

Not too far away from where they parked were the others, staying within their own cars. Once Kris arrived, everyone got out and made their way over to them. Ileana unbuckled her seat belt and hurriedly exited the car. No one said a word and their expressions were grim. They all nodded to each other.

“Show time.” Baekhyun said. They all turned around and walked toward an elevator. They all crowded in the metallic walls. The typical sounds of doo-dah music echoed within the quarters and it felt nothing short of mocking.

When the doors opened, everyone rushed out. It was a small room with a sign stating ‘main floor’ across the top of the only door. Luhan opened the door slightly and peeked out. Still keeping his eye trained on what was outside, his hand reached out behind him. Lay placed a familiar looking needle device in it. Luhan snuck it into his pocket and ventured out of the room completely. Ileana squeezed through the crowd and tried to catch a glimpse of Luhan through the sliver that was the door’s opening.

Luhan casually walked up to a desk placed directly across from the door. Sitting at it was a very uptight looking woman who seemed very much focused on typing something down at the speed of sound. When Luhan approached the desk, the woman directed her cold stare to him. He flashed his charming and cute smile toward her but there was no effect. So, Luhan leaned in closer to the woman and the woman did as well, looking confused. Then, in a split second, Luhan took the needle device out of his pocket and plunged it right into the woman’s neck. His other hand muffled the woman's short scream before her eyes rolled back and her head fell limp in Luhan’s hands. He gently let her head fall to the desk. If almost appeared like she was sleeping.

Luhan glanced over his shoulder and did some sort of hand motion. Kai and Xiumin pushed past her and out of the room. They veered to the right and disappeared from her sight. Luhan run behind the desk at that moment and started messing around with the computers.

“Come on Luhan.” Sehun mumbled from behind her. If the woman before was tapping at her keyboard at the speed of sound, Luhan was going at it at the speed of light. Suddenly, the lights went out. Ileana shot up but a hand rested itself on the small of her back and lightly caressed it in a soothing manner. She couldn’t see who it belonged to, but she got the message that the power outage was planned. Shortly, the generator kicked in and dim lights lite up her vision.

Luhan from behind the desk sported a mischievous smile before he stood up and beckoned the others over. The door was pried opened by them all.  In the middle of them, Ileana followed them as they veered to the right. They all rushed through fancy looking hallways that were covered by mirrors. Ileana noticed they passed by the occasional man dressed in black who were sprawled on the floor, evidence of blood splattered around them.

Soon Ileana found out the reason. Looking ahead, she saw Kai and Xiumin fighting it out with two men. One man managed to get away from Kai and ran to a wall with a button of sorts stuck to it. Kai bolted to him but the man smacked his hand down on the button before Kai kicked him to the ground. Sirens blared through the hallways and a collective curses rang out.

In a matter of moments, a flood of black suited men marched around a corner. Ileana’s eyes widen at the mass heading their way. The boys around her stretched their muscles out before they lunged toward the men, leaving Ileana behind them. She was just standing there, staring at the chaos in front of her. God, did she ever feel useless.

Eyes roaming across the fighting men, she saw Baekhyun running into some trouble. The man he was battling with towered over him and had a nasty grip on his hair. Ileana frantically looked around for a weapon and spotted a mirror hanging on the wall next to her. She quickly unhooked it from the wall and ran to Baekhyun’s aid. Sneaking up from behind the suited man who was assaulting Baekhyun, she raised the mirror up and smashed it over the man’s head. The sound of glass shattering echoed in the hallway and the man fell. Ileana stared down at the man for a few moments when she realized it was eerily quiet. Looking over her shoulder, she noticed that she attracted all the attention in the hallway.

Three suited man broke away from their original opponents and headed straight for her. Baekhyun quickly grabbed her arm and pushed her behind him. Then in a flash, flames surrounded Baekhyun and her. Heat radiated around her and she quickly looked over to Lay. She saw that everyone was trapped within a circle of flames. Lay casually walked over to Baekhyun and her, making their circles join together. Lay nudged his head while looking at the others. The others got the message and made their way over to them. Soon, the entire group was in a circle of fire. Lay raised one hand and a wall of fire was created from floor to ceiling, completely blocking the suited men from following after them

“That should hold them back for a while.” Lay said and the ring of fire around them distinguished.

“Thanks by the way, that was brilliant!” Baekhyun turned to Ileana while fixing his hair. She gave him a smile in return before her upper arm was gripped upon and dragged down the hallway by Kris. Everyone followed after them.  After a few turns, the end of the hallway lead to two large French doors. Kris let go of Ileana’s arm and turned to face everyone. Everyone stared at Kris in anticipation.

“Let’s do this.” Kris said and the others immediately smirked. Kris faced the doors and pried them open with great force. The sound of the doors slamming open echoed within the large trial room.  Along the sides of the room were the ministers, separated by Sector. At the back of the room sat a row of men, situated higher than the rest.

“What is the meaning of this!” A man yelled from what Ileana assumed to be the row of senators.

“On behalf of the people of both Sector K and M, we are administrating you and your fellow senators’ permanent removal from the Senate.” Kris’ voice boomed throughout the room.

There was a large pause in the room before the initial man started laughing and the other senators shortly following after. “And what authority do you have to instate such an action?” The man said in between chuckles.

Kris kept his face locked into blank and serious mode. He pulled a scroll from the pocket of his black trench coat and unraveled it. “There is no authority greater than the Sectors welfare. We will get your signatures whether it being from your freewill or not.”

The senators continued to chuckle and the ministers appeared to be getting antsy. “Guards, please sort these hooligans out. We’ve had enough of a show.”

The guards situated behind the ministers moved through the ministers' tables and headed toward them.  Everyone tensed and formed a circle around Ileana. She frowned as a result. Sure, make her feel like a damsel in distress.

“Back down, men!” A familiar voice shouted through the room, “That is a direct order from both Sector M and K’s Defense and Justice Ministers.”

“Bout time.” Kris muttered under his breath as Suho and Tao appeared behind them with a parade of armed men. The men who were advancing froze immediately and assessed their opponents. They immediately backed down as ordered.

“And who are you?” A senator glared down to Suho.

“The new Defense and Justice minister for Sector K, Senator.” Suho lifted a scroll, with traces of blood seen speckled along the bottom of it.  “The last minister was so kind to sign this transference of power.”

Tao stepped forward and tossed a scroll up into the air as well. He caught it easily and sharply glared the senators down. “And I’m the new minister for Sector M’s Defense and Justice section.” The senators at the sight of Tao visibly gulped and became shifty-eyed.

“Well! Are you going to just stand for this ministers!” A senator roared; directed his fury to the ministers below. They all went silent. A chair screeched as it was pushed back. The Sector K minister for Labour and Agriculture stood up.

“Certainly senators. I am very happy to stand for this.” He walked around the table he sat and joined the group of them in the middle of the room. He clapped a hand on the shoulder of Chanyeol and winked to Ileana, who found herself smiling awkwardly. Right, Chanyeol’s wife and mother of his unborn child.

Catching the cue, the other ministers stood up from their seats and made their way to the group in the middle of the room. Soon, it was a crowd facing the now shocked senators stationed above them.

“So, will you sign? Or will you be forced to sign and be jailed for treason?” Kris raised a menacing eyebrow. The senators all nervously observed each other. One man shot up from his seat and rushed down a small staircase. He stood far back away from Kris, unsure if he should get closer. His shaky hands reached into the pocket of his silver blazer and pulled out a pen.

Kris inched closer to the man slowly. He came directly face to face with the senator. He then turned and leaned against a table where two ministers previous sat. He slapped down the scroll and arrogantly waved the senator over. The senator complied quite quickly. In a matter seconds, he signed it. After that, a few more senators came down and followed the suit. There were still some defiant ones, refusing to come down from their seating. Tao took care of them easily. He dragged them down and forced a pen into their hands. Soon, the scroll was completed with all the senators’ signature.

“According to this document, all of the current senators have withdrawn from their positions. In order to maintain the peace, both Suho and myself will be the temporary leaders of Sector K and M respectively. Anyone who is opposed to this, please step forward.” Kris eyed everyone but not one soul moved an inch. Ileana’s heart, however, was pounding more rapidly than before. “Then, the new temporary government has been officially established.”

Cheers erupted within the room from minister, soldier and friends alike. Ileana was attacked from all ends by various hugs. Ileana didn’t return them because she was so shell-shocked. She did it. They did it.

She met with the eyes of Kris. She knew what she had to do and what she had to say. She had to do it before it was too late and before she was gone for good.

Hii, probably not as exciting as you may have all liked. But, trust me, I was going to make this a lot more boring. But then, someone mentioned blood and I was like okay I'll add something small in there. So, yeah. EXO is very good at planning XP

So, I am tired right now, it's like 3am. BUT, I will come back tomorrow and edit this author's note to include comment replies...and maybe the typical gifs and giveaways. Until tomrrow ya'll :)
