“So, you’ve met most of the members already. You’ll probably have to see Yong Guk a lot more, since he’s our leader, and you’ve yet to meet Young Jae, who handles all our organization and planning.” Himchan said, as we sat on the couch. “This time of day is usually our break. As you know, we work in the night and sleep in the morning, so you’re probably going to have to get used to the sleeping schedule. Sometimes some members won’t come back to the hideout – Zelo once left for a week on his own – but we always make it back. We’re too tough to get lost, so don’t worry if you don’t see some of the members.” I nodded, taking in all the information and trying as hard as I could to remember it. “Got it. Do we need to tell anyone if we’re going anywhere?”  

“Well, obviously you’re under probation. You’re not allowed to go anywhere unless it’s a mission.”

“Oh come on, I’m not a little child-“

“You’re a girl, _______.” Himchan hissed in my ear. “Please try harder to take care of your safety. This isn't a joke.”

I shut up instantly, knowing that he was right. I couldn’t risk getting kicked out of the group, not when I’d just been initiated.

“And if you escape from B.A.P, I will make sure to kill you myself,” Himchan glared at me, but a flicker of hesitation clogged his voice when he said the word kill.

Before I could assure him I would listen, somebody suddenly yelled “B.A.P!”

Himchan gave me a serious look, and he nudged me over to where everyone else had immediately assembled. The group was looking at a wall, their backs straight and pronounced. They were standing in perfect positions, and I tried my best to look as disciplined as they were. Their eyes never glanced at at the member who had ordered them to assemble, but instead completely were focused on their leader. Yong Guk watched us all, his gaze stopping for a heartbeat when it reached mine, before tapping the whiteboard behind him. It had a chart scrawled on it, and my name had been neatly placed in the last box. Beside the chart was a rankings list, where I noticed that Yong Guk’s name was at the top. There were no smudges or eraser marks, leaving me to believe it had been up there for quite a while. I also couldn’t help but notice that Himchan’s name was ranked second – and mine last.

“Attention!” The other member, who could only be Young Jae, yelled.

“As you all know, we have a new member and we’d like to introduce him to the training process,” Yong Guk said calmly, tapping the whiteboard again with a marker. “I personally will be undertaking his training session myself. Any objections?”

There was silence, but beside me, for some reason, I could feel Himchan bristle.

“Kim Himchan?” Young Jae asked, glaring at him. I could feel strong tension between the two members.

“Io was recruited by me. I think I deserve the right to train him myself, leader,” Himchan said, directing his question at Yong Guk and ignoring Young Jae’s piercing gaze.

“You recruited him and I have the decision to eliminate him from our ranks. We know nothing about the kid and yet I accepted him the day you brought him to me. Kim Himchan, have you so easily forgotten the year you spent being an apprentice? If everyone could be initiated like Io, we’d have a country of B.A.P members and not a gang. And yet, even though we only accept the best, I already broke protocol to invite him in.”

Himchan ducked his head, grinding his teeth angrily, but stepped back. His cheeks were a flaming red. 

“Jong Up and Zelo, since you two love acting like monkeys so much, you’ll grit it out in the ring like animals.”

Zelo pumped a fist in the air while Jong Up cursed. 

“Young Jae and Dae Hyun, you'll be going over the coordinates of the place we'll be going for our next mission. We may have to work in a large area, which will make it difficult to cover ground easily." 

“WE HAVE A MISSION?” Zelo asked, bouncing on the soles of his feet as his face brightened. “We haven’t had one in months! What’s it this time, losing gangs who are on our trail, or catching gangs who we need to eliminate?” Surprisingly it wasn’t Yong Guk who answered, but Young Jae. “Not until the rookie is trained we don’t," the blond “secretary” snapped, his eyes shooting me a frigid glare before turning back to the leader. I found it unfair how Yong Guk would berate Himchan but ignore the excessive wailing of Zelo - although I didn't mind it very much. Finding that a growing dislike was occurring from me towards the leader, my eyes widened when I heard my name. He said it huskily, roughly, but his melodious, almost lyrical voice sent shivers down my spine.

“Io, you will be beginning your training process with me,” he said, looking at me directly.

I nodded firmly as a slight feeling of wanting to please him ran through my body.

“And lastly, Himchan – for being so interruptive today, you’ll be doing the BAP marathon.”

I stared at him while he looked back at Yong Guk in horror. “Leader-“

“The meeting is dismissed. Meet up at 6 for dinner.” I looked at Himchan and mouthed, “what?” While he looked on furiously at Yong Guk, Zelo popped up from behind us and whooped merrily. “Oh, poor playboy. Looks like someone’s been a bit too naughty!” He said, his eyes glittering mischievously. “ He’s got to do the climbing wall, push ups bench presses, and laps for a total of 10 reps before three, then make dinner and put it on the table at six, and finish dish duty by nine. If he misses the time or is unable to complete the activities, he’s got to do it again tomorrow. One time, Jong Upp-ie hyung spent nearly seven consecutive days doing the BAP marathon because it was so hard. Oh, hyung, your muscles are going to be dead tomorrow!” Zelo said, cackling. “Good luck!” he added, before running off to bother Jong Up.

“Hey, you’re second in the ranks. You’ll do fine,” I said, patting his shoulder.

“Yeah, you try it one day and tell me I’ll do fine,” Himchan snapped at me, frowning. 

I laughed at his distraught demeanour, glad that I’d avoided the fate of what sounded like standard BAP torture. However, as I looked at the back of Yong Guk, who was disappearing into his office again, I felt a wave of unease settle into me. His gaze always seemed to know everything about me, like who I was, even though we were barely introduced. The moment I walked in, he could tell I was a girl, while the others still had no idea. A jolt of electricity suddenly shot through me as I realized I would be training with the infamous leader of the gang. At the same time, however, my legs felt weak and my stomach felt like it would hurl from the nervousness. I wanted to try my best and show the leader that I could do just as good, and maybe even better as him. 

I wanted to be noticed by him.
