Second Feelings

Deal? Deal.

Ji Hyun has come over earlier, so Hyun Woo and her are watching tv.

Ah Ran is mopping the floor. As she is doing so, Hyun Woo walks in. She doesn't know what happened, but Hyun Woo slips on the wet floor and falls down.

“Ouch,” he screams.

“Are you okay,” Ah Ran asks.

She puts the mop to the side and walks over to Hyun Woo.

“My behind hurts,” he says.

“You should've watched where you were going,” Ah Ran says.

“You should've said something.”

She helps him up.

“I didn't see you, and did you not see me holding the mop,” she asks.

“First you punch me, and now you're making me slip,” he says.

“Your pants are wet now.”

“Is it?”

He looks behind.

“I'll go change,” he says.

Ji Hyun runs in.

“What happened,” she asks.

Ah Ran takes a step away, and Ji Hyun clings onto Hyun Woo’s arm.

“I just slipped,” he assures Ji Hyun.

“Are you hurt,” Ji Hyun asks concerned.

“I'm fine, I just have to go change my pants. They're wet.”

“Okay. Let's go.”

Ji Hyun takes Hyun Woo away.

Ah Ran goes back to mop.

“That really hurt,” Hyun Woo complains as he walks into his closet.

Ah Ran walks to the kitchen to see the workers eating something. She asks them what they are doing.

“Come here,” the head worker says. “So Eun went to buy these delicious fruits.”

Ah Ran takes a bite out of the apple.

“That’s really good,” Ah Ran says. She covers with her hand. “Where did you buy it?”

“The same place we went to buy the clams,” So Eun replies.

“Gosh. I should go there more often.”

Ah Ran takes a bite out of the watermelon.

“So sweet and juicy,”  Ah Ran says. “If we put this in the fridge and cool it, it’ll be better.”

“Yes,” the head worker says. “Do it!”

The workers grab the fruits out again and eat.

“Mmm!!” Everyone who eats it says.

“This will be great for dessert,” Ah Ran says.

“We have something else for dessert,” the head worker says. “How about you bring some to the master and his guest?”

“Sure,” Ah Ran says.

“Actually, So Eun, you take it.”

“No. It's fine. I'll take it.”

Ah Ran puts some into a plate and grabs two forks. She puts the forks onto the plate and heads to the living room.

“I have to use the bathroom,” Ji Hyun says.

“Okay,” Hyun Woo says.

Ji Hyun leaves.

Hyun Woo fixes his attention to the tv again. He's watching a basketball game. His favorite team Warriors are playing.

Ah Ran walks in and sets the plate on the coffee table.

“Here,” she says. “They're very sweet and cold.”

“Thanks,” Hyun Woo says.

Ah Ran watches the tv and gasps.

“You're watching Warriors,” she asks. “I didn't know they were playing.”

“Yeah. Today is their last game. If they win, they win the whole tournament,” Hyun Woo says.

“It's already the second half of the game.”

“Yeah. They won the first half.”

“And they're winning 2-1.”

“Yeah. I didn't know you liked basketball.”

“I used to watch it with my dad.”

“Want to join us? Ji Hyun is in the bathroom.”

“I should probably go back.”

They hear the crowd cheer from the tv, so the attention diverts to them.

“Did they score,” Ah Ran asks.

She looks at the score and reads 3-1.

“They scored,” Ah Ran screams.

The buzzer goes off.

“They won,” Ah Ran shouts.

She jumps in joy and Hyun Woo joins her.

“They won,” Ah Ran shouts again.

“They won,” Hyun Woo shouts.

They laugh in joy and jump up and down. The crowd in the tv is doing the same thing.

“I can't believe they won,” Ah Ran shouts.

They hug each other in joy. Still overly joyed, they didn't even notice until the tv goes to commercial. They push each other away and turn away.

“I'm sorry,” Hyun Woo says. “I didn't realize.”

“It's okay,” she cuts him off.

Ah Ran quickly walks out of the room.

Ji Hyun notices that and walks over to Hyun Woo.

“Did something happen,” she asks.

“Warriors won.”

“No, I mean with her.” Ji Hyun points at Ah Ran.

“Oh. She came to give us some fruits to eat.” Hyun Woo sits down. “Want some?”

“Sure.” Ji Hyun sits next to Hyun Woo and starts eating.

Ah Ran stops in the hallway. She leans on the wall and puts her hand to her beating heart.

“Stop,” she tells her heart. “Stop. Stop.”

She waits for her heart to calm down. Once it does, she heads to the kitchen again.

When dinner comes, Ji Hyun sits at Ah Ran’s seat again. After dinner, Ji Hyun leaves, and Ah Ran and Hyun Woo heads to bed.

The next day, Ah Ran is hanging Hyun Woo’s clothes in the closet. Hyun Woo walks in and approaches her.

“Is something wrong,” she asks. She stops what she is doing.

“No.”

“Then why are you here?”

“Because I want to be here.”

“Want to work?”

“Sure.”

“Okay. Hang your clothes.”

“How?”

She puts the shirt in her hands on a hanger and hangs it.

“Like that,” she says.

“Looks easy enough,” he says.

He bends down and picks up a shirt. Then he grabs a hanger and repeats the steps that Ah Ran showed him.

“I told you it was easy,” he says as he hangs the shirt.

“Great. You finish this. I'll go do something else,” Ah Ran says.

“But.”

She walks out before he could finish.

He quickly hangs his clothes and goes find Ah Ran again. She is dusting the picture frames hanging on the wall.

“What do you want,” she asks. She stops what she is doing and looks at him like he's mad.

“Nothing. I just wanted to see if you needed help or not,” he replies.

“No. I'm fine.”

“Are you sure? I'm bored. I don't know what to do.”

“Don't you have friends? Go out. What about Ji Hyun?”

“But I want to stay home.”

“In that case, I have lots for you to do.”

“What is it?”

“Sweep the floor. After that, mop the floor. Then make sure to dry it, so you won't slip again. When you're done with all that and still have time left, go clean bathrooms. You have to wash the toilet and the bathtub.”

“That's too much. I don't know if I can do it all.”

“Finish what you can today and do the rest tomorrow.”

“Can you help me?”

“If I finish what I’m doing.”

“Do you just have to dust the pictures?”

“I also have to see what needs to be done in the kitchen.”

“Is that your last one?”

“It is.”

She wipes the frame one more time.

“There. Done,” she says. “Now go do your work, and I’ll go do mine.”

She walks away leaving him there. Ah Ran walks into the kitchen and looks around.

“Can someone go buy some cilantro,” the head worker asks. “We need some to make dinner.”

“I’ll go,” Ah Ran says.

“It’s okay. One of us can go.”

“I’ll go,” Hyun Woo says.

Everyone’s head turns his direction.

“I’ll go with Ah Ran,” he continues.

“No,” the head worker says. “One of us will go.”

“It’s okay,” Ah Ran says. “We’ll go.”

During the car drive, the both of them sat quietly. Hyun Woo is driving and Ah Ran is in the passenger’s seat. She is staring out the window, and he is taking secret glances at her.

“Ah Ran,” he starts. “Do you still feel like you’re jailed up? Especially when you look at me. Do I make you feel jailed up?”

“Why do you ask,” she asks not looking at him.

“I’m just curious,” he answers.

“No,” she says after a pause. “Not anymore. You're also doing a good job of not giving commands, and I appreciate that. Thank you.”

He smiles.

His phone suddenly rings, so he puts in his ear piece.

“Hello,” he says.

“Hyun Woo,” Ji Hyun says. “Where are you?”

“I’m out.”

“Great! Where? Tell me so I can meet you.”

“I’m only out for a little bit. Then I’ll head home.”

“But I wanted to go out with you.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t go out for long.”

“Are you alone?”

“I’m shopping with Ah Ran. We have to buy food for dinner.”

“You’re out with her,” Ji Hyun asks in disbelief.

“Only for a little while.”

“Fine. I’ll go out myself,” Ji Hyun says in a threatening way, “I don’t promise that I won’t do anything out of hand.”

“Wait.”

Ji Hyun hangs up the call.

Hyun Woo sighs and takes the ear piece off.

“Was that Ji Hyun,” Ah Ran asks.

“Yeah.”

“She wanted to go out?”

“Yeah, but I can’t.”

“You could’ve said yes.”

“I didn’t want to.”

“But you sounded upset.”

“She was trying to make me feel upset. I’m sure she was just playing around.”

He takes them to the shops that So Eun took Ah Ran before. They go straight to the store that sells the cilantro and buys a pack. After they do so, Ah Ran goes around the food stalls again.

“You said you’d pay for me again,” Ah Ran says.

“I sure did,” he says laughing.

“I promise I won’t eat as much.”

“Sorry we took so long,” Ah Ran says as she walks into the kitchen with the bag in her hand. “We got distracted.”

“With what,” the head worker asks.

“With food.”

Ah Ran puts the bag on the counter.

“I see you got a bracelet,” the head worker says. “Did Hyun Woo buy it for you?”

“No. I man gave it to us, it’s been a while though.”

“Oh? I’m assuming master has one too?”

“Yeah. A blue one.”

“Are those the bracelets that’s supposed to keep couples together forever? Even if they separate, the bracelets will bring them back together.”

“You know about that?”

“Yeah. I had one with my husband.”

“Do you still have it?”

“No. We divorced.”

“Oh. See. I knew these bracelets won’t work.”

“I think they’re just trying to cheat our money away.”

Hyun Woo is in the bedroom. He’s messaged Ji Hyun a few times, but she hasn’t replied yet, and she usually replies within five minutes. He’s afraid that Ji Hyun might be doing something right now. Something that will make him mad.

The next day, Hyun Woo is still trying to contact Ji Hyun. She hasn’t contact him all night and the whole morning. It is now late evening, and still no signs of Ji Hyun.

A knock on the door is heard, so the workers come answer it.

“Where is Hyun Woo,” Ji Hyun asks.

“In the living room,” the worker says.

Ji Hyun pushes in and heads to Hyun Woo.

“Hyun Woo,” Ji Hyun says.

She sits down on the couch and hugs his arm.

He is mad at her, so he doesn’t show her any affection back.

“Are you mad at me,” she asks.

“Where have you been? I’ve been trying to contact you,” he says.

“I know. I’m sorry I couldn’t get to you. My parents needed help with work, so I was helping them.”

“But you said you were going to go out. Did you?”

“I was going to, but my parents needed my help, so I didn’t go.”

“Since when did you help your parents with their work? From what I know, they don’t need your help, and you never wanted to help them.”

“I thought I should distract myself since I couldn’t be with you yesterday. Please don’t be mad.”

She puts her arms around his waist.

“Please? I’m sorry if I made you upset,” she whines.

He doesn’t say anything. He just sits there.

“Hyun Woo,” she whines.

“If I find out that you’re doing something behind my back, I won’t forgive you,” he says.

“Okay. I promise that I won’t lie to you ever.”

He puts his arms around her and and smiles.

“I love you,” she says.

“I love you too,” he repeats back.

She breaks the hug and pulls him in for a kiss.

Ah Ran is watering the grass. Since she’s outside again, she made sure she was prepared for the hot sun. After she is done, she goes back inside and into the kitchen.

“Ji Hyun is here,” the worker tells Ah Ran.

“Is she? Hyun Woo and her had a fight yesterday. Maybe they’re making up,” Ah Ran says.

“What was the fight about?”

“She wanted to go out, but Hyun Woo was with me.”

“So she’s jealous?”

“Perhaps.”

The worker nods her head.

A few days past by and Hyun Woo and Ji Hyun have a steady relationship again. However, everything is going to change with one phone call.

Hyun Woo is in his room dusting his antiques when his phone suddenly rings. He checks to see who it is.

“What,” he asks not interested. “I thought you said you didn't want to hear from me again.”

“Don't bring that up now,” Ho Seok says. “Where are you?”

“I'm at home.”

“Do you know where Ji Hyun is doing right now?”

“She told me she has to help her parents today.”

“She lied to you.”

“What? What do you mean?”

“I'm here at that new Italian restaurant, and I see her talking to another man.”

“Maybe they're just friends.”

“Yeah. Friends hold hands and share one drink.”

“I'll call her.”

“She probably won't answer you.”

Hyun Woo hangs up and immediately calls Ji Hyun. She doesn't pick up like Ho Seok warns him. Hyun Woo texts her, “Where are you.”

“I'm at home,” she texts back.

“What are you doing?”

“Helping my parents like I told you.”

“Call me.”

“I'm busy right now. I can't. I'll call you later.”

Anger boils in Hyun Woo. He knows that she is cheating on him. Ho Seok is a witness.

That night, when he is lying in bed with Ah Ran, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

“Is something wrong,” Ah Ran asks.

“No,” he says after some hesitant.

“Okay. If you have something bothering you, just tell me.”

“Actually,” he starts. “Something is bothering me.”

“What is it?”

“Ji Hyun. I think she’s cheating on me.”

“Oh. That’s not good. Why?”

“I don’t know. I think she’s jealous.”

“Of me?”

“I think so. Ho Seok said he saw her with another man.”

“Who’s Ho Seok?”

“Oh. One of my close friend.”

“Ahh. He saw Ji Hyun with another man? Maybe they’re just friends.”

“No. He saw them holding hands and sharing a drink.”

“Well.”

“She also took my money. You know the three hundred that I lost. She took it. I don’t know why. I asked but she didn’t answer, and I thought she had a good reason as to why she took the money, so I just shrugged it off.”

“Did you get the full amount back?”

“I did.”

“That’s weird. Why would she do that?”

“I don’t know. I’m starting to have second thoughts about this relationship.”

“Well, confirm with her.”

“I don't think she's going to confess. She lied to me that she was going to help her parents, but she actually went out on a date. I think I need to catch her red handed.”

“Maybe she's doing it to get your attention.”

“Why would she need to do that?”

“You said she was jealous. You have to make her know that you still love her.”

“How? I'm doing the best that I can right now.”

“I think the best would be for us to divorce. To prove that you really love her, we have to separate.”

“You know mom and dad won't allow that.”

“We can just tell them that it's not working out. I'm sure they'll understand. When do they come back?”

“In a few days.”

“I'll talk to them.”

“What about your parents?”

“They're pretty understanding. You don't have to worry.”

“Don't you think it's too early for a divorce?”

“It's been about a month and a half. That's pretty long.”

“You're right. We've been through so much.”

“Yeah. Let's sleep. It's late.”

“Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

Chapter 10: I think how you did this story was fine. Not every person should fit your idea of them. It is creative license. In the end you turned Hyunwoo into the person who will make a great husband and gave your readers a happy ending. Very sweet and hits the fluffy romance. Nice!
