IV. An Evening of Sorrow

Deadly Elegance

It was 8 am in Busan and Moonbyul sat in a taxi combing through the file Jessica had given her. Her target's name was Kim Yongsun, also known by the nickname "Solar". She is 25 years of age and currently working as a waitress at Sanchon. Her hobbies start and end with singing, she is apparently really talented at it. She even went to Busan Singing Acadamey before dropping out. Moonbyul flipped the file over to learn more and winced at what she saw on the file.

"Her mother fell into a coma, her father died, and Kim Yongsun has regrettably pulled from all of her classes, around December 14th of last year" Moonbyul began shaking as she read that date. That was the date right after her hit on Yura, the date when she killed the little girl. In quiet moments the little girl come to her mind, ghost-like, a shadow of who she was, little white blouse soaked in blood. When Moonbyul is calm the spectre is docile, just echoing like a memory she tried to forget. But always there is the knowledge of what she had done. The look of the little girls dead body was imprinted in her mind. The cry of Yongsun, a girl she had never met, kept replaying in her mind like an endless echo. She had never felt guilt before in her entire life, she's killed hundreds of men, women, now she can add one child. The guilt sat not on her chest but inside her brain. Regret washed over her like the long slow waves on a shallow beach. Each wave was icy cold and sent shivers down her spine. How she longed to go back and take a different path, but that was impossible. There was no way back. There was no way to make it right. The remorse would eat at her everyday of her life. She envied the dead, hard and lifeless, unable to feel the torments of life. What she had done she could not un-do. She couldn't make amends in any ways, but how was she supposed to relieve herself of this feeling. Only in her silent moments could she think about her own mother and beg for hermercy. She didn't feel like she deserved to be forgivem but she clung to it and hung the shreds of her sanity on it. She prayed that one day she would feel removed from her sin, washed clean of it, but the guilt was a stain on her, an ugly scar.

"Hey Ma'am, we're here"~The cab driver said as they pulled up towards the apartments. This was where Yongsun was currently staying and Moonbyul had rented the apartment next to her's. She got inside and started unpacking her stuff, the little did she even have. On scanning around the apartment she turned house-lights on as soft jazz played from the sound system, the same volume in every room. In the kitchen was a coffee machine, a bowl of fruits and a blender were already set up for her. After she took off her shoes to relax she plopped down on the couch. She sat there contemplating how should she do it, should she just shoot her? Should she make it look like an accident? Should She even do it? What was she thinking of course she had to............. did she? Moonbyul clawed through hair thinking of what she should do. She looked up as she heard a shuffling of footsteps outside. Moonbyul quickly threw her shoes on and walked to the door. She slowly creaked it open and looked down the hallway to see Yongsun trotting along. She hurried out to tail Yongsun and see where she was going. She followed Yongsun down the stairs and out the front door of the apartment complex. Always keeping her distance and trying to look inconspicuous. After 20 minutes of following the girl Moonbyul sees her trot along into the Sanchon restraunt. Moonbyul went in and got herself a table as she kept a close eye on Yongsun. She hadn't noticed it before but now that she was close enough she got a good look at Yongsun's lovely features. Her soft, ivory shoulders were exposed and her soft brunette curls fell down her back. Her lips were carefully tinted plum and her skin was flawless. Her brown eyes shone like twin moons in the grand dining hall. She wore a form fitting dress with black and white diamond patterns covering her outfit. She is painted in the most florescent colors. The pallet God used to create her literally made Van Gogh shed a tear. When she smiles, rays of colors from every end of the spectrum go running in all directions, looking for an untouched canvas on which to leave a mark. Moonbyul was struck by her beauty. The combination of shapes and colours were pleasing to her eyes as she looked on. Such beauty, poetry defined in endless lines of her thoughts and expression of what her voice never revealed. She sat there and watched her for hours as she worked, pasting on a casual smile. Finally when Yongsun went into the back, Moonbyul prepared herself to leave. She got up and left the restaurant standing at the end of the alleyway which lead from the back of the resteraunt. She waited for Yongsun to exit as she sees something rather suspicious, 3 men in black walking towards the back door. They just stood at the doorway waiting looking very intimidating to the basic passerby. As the doorway opened, Yongsun walked out now in her street clothes and bag in hand. She was immediately grabbed by one of men and shoved against a wall.

"Hey baby, you think just because your dad died,  that I wouldn't be calling in his debt to me"~The man said as his three friends surrounded her.

"What....... do you mean"~Yongsun said with a trembling voice.

"Your daddy owed us alot of money and I think we've found the right........ payment"~He said as he began ripping her clothes off. A couple of hands grabs her shoulders and face leans closer to her's. She tries to shove off his hands but he's too strong. His fingers dig into her skin leaving bruises on her arms. "Step back," Yongsun says as coldly as possible. She doesn't want any of them to see how scared she is, and how she's shaking right now. He smirks at her, and she tries to push him away but nothing seems to work. "So, you like to fight, huh?" He smiles showing his crooked teeth while the others get closer, making sure she has no way to escape. Moonbyul stands there stunned about what to do.

"Please Let Me Go Help!  Aaaah!"~Yongsun screamed as one of the men began kissing her neck. That moment struck Moonbyul like a bat. The way Yongsun screamed, it reminded her of her............. mother. She put on her leather gloves and started walking towards them, cracking her knuckles as she got closer. As one man was about to tear Yongsun's shirt off, Moonbyul grabbed his arm and snapped it with clean cracking sound. Drawing her arm back, Moonbyul drove her fist into the other man's nose. Head flying as his eyes locked on the sky, the man stumbled. His left foot slid on the concrete and he braced the heel of his shoe against the rough ground. His hands rose to cover his nose, eyes squeezing shut. A single tear leaked down his cheek. Head coming forwards, nose throbbing, he glared at sudden mysterious woman over his fingers. Moonbyul stepped forward, left leg pulling back and struck out. Her leg slammed into the last man's shin with a solid crunch. He yelped, his right leg lifting off the ground, head dropping as he leaned forwards. Seizing the back of his head with her fingers, she forced his skull down, knee ramming upwards into his face. With that blow she knocked him out, she looked at the other two men and glared at them with a dead coldness.

"Leave, Now"~Moonbyul said crossing her arms, while the 3 men scrurried away. Yongsun was curled up, laying down as all this was conspiring. The paralyzing hurt spread through her body like icy, liquid metal. She clenched her fists as she hesitantly cowered hearing the fighting happn. She noticed her own feet tremble. Her legs twitched, fighting the impulse to whirl around and sprint down that damp, shadowed alleyway; closed in threat of screaming, and her jaw became tight. She crunched her teeth over her lip harder than she ever had. After the noise stopped she looked up to see, no one around her, the men and her savior were no where to be seen.

"What the h*ll did I just do?!?" Moonbyul thought to herself as she sprinted back to her apartment. She had just saved someone, not just anyone, her contract target. Why did she do that? What was she thinking? Why is there this heavieness in her chest? She thought to herself as she made it to her apartment and shut the door. Moonbyul thinks she needed time to contemplate, as she took off her clothes and headed into the shower. She turned it on and put both her hands up against the wall as she let the warm water soak her body. Her mind flickers just thinking about Yongsun, she could sense it every time she looked at her. But, she had to be realistic and get her thoughts together or she wouldn't be able to be dropped from the enforcer list. She couldn't keep thinking. And, she can’t get all wrapped up in the thought of being with a girl, who she is going to have to kill. For Moonbyul, it's easy to say, the dragon in her head spews a line of fire at the part of her brain that sends tingles through her body when she thinks of Yongsun. She finishes her shower and dresses herself before reaching the counter. There sat her gun, the device she used to end so many lives. She had customized it to suit her needs. The handle was laminated wood with water resistant adhesive, making it stronger and less likely to warp. The slide had a black "M" engraved upon it in cursive so she could recognize it. The trigger mechanism had been taken apart and polished for a smoother release. Even every bullet she ever used had been specially prepared. Made by LE herself, it was forty grains in weight and only available to Moonbyul. It had carefully drilled a small hole in the head. The shock of air as the bullet hit it's target would cause as much damage as the bullet itself. The pistol would chamber itself as fast as she could fire it, but she would only need a single shot. Moonbyul looked at the clock and saw that it was 8 pm. She knew Yongsun should be home by now. Without hesitation she grabbed her gun and went for the door. She thought to herself, "I have to do this". She opened her door, entering the hallway. She reached Yongsun's door, noticing that it was slightly ajar and already open. She quietly made her way into the apartment, gun pointed first. It was a complete mess to say the least. Dirty dishes everywhere and it looked like it hasn't been cleaned up in awhile. She made her way through the dining room before noticing the T.V. in the living room. A video was playing as Moonbyul put her gun away to see what it was. The video showed Yongsun at the beach putting on sunscreen. She was just sitting there talking to a man and a woman off camera. Yongsun then calls out a name. "Amber come here!"Then Moonbyul saw it, a little girl ran up and hugged Yongsun. She quivered as the scene played out

"I love you Unnie!"~The girl in the video said as Yongsun picked her up. The video ends as the sisters embrace. What had she done, she not only killed a little girl but she destroyed a family. Moonbyul thought as she backed up into the dining table. She then sees a note placed upon it saying "Sorry Mom". Moonbyul's eyes lit up as she knew what this meant. She ran towards the bedroom as fast as she could. She then sees Yongsun lying on the bed unconscious with an empty bottle of pills in her hand. She was trying to kill herself. Moonbyul rushed over to her body and held onto her. She pryed open Yongsun's mouth and reached past her teeth to touch her uvula. Solar's eyes blinked open, she convulsed and shot up vomitting as Moonbyul held onto her. She puked up all the pills she had just injested onto the floor. After the ordeal she lays back down and looks at Moonbyul

"Thank You.....You're the one who saved me earlier.........Whats your name?"~Solar said weakly as she got into the sitting position. Moonbyul sat there not knowing what to do. Closing her eyes she took in a deep breathe before her gaze met Yongsun's again.

"My Name is Moon Byul"~Moonbyul said flashing a smile.

Around November last year, I thought up and began writing Deadly Elegance, and it has become my most popular story. So I’ve redesigned the cover in celebration.

Chapter 15: I really enjoyed this, thank you! You also made it quite impossible to rush through it seeing how detailed it was, I appreciate that :). I could really paint the scene out in my mind. It also made me cry a couple of times.

I'm looking forward to your future stories :))
