Bleeding Hearts
“Hey” Mina said, when he opened the door.
“…Hey?” Baekhyun said, automatically moving aside as she casually worked her way into his apartment.
In her hand was a manila envelope, she realized the irony in that fact that she’d been carrying too many of them around lately. She went straight to his cabinet, setting the envelope down and pouring herself a tall glass of water. She turned to him with a big smile on her face, drinking from the glass quickly as she noted the confused look on his face.
“Before you say anything you have to listen to me until the end” She started, placing the glass down with a loud thud of decisiveness.
He made a face, “I—“ He began, turning his back to her and running his hand through his hair.
Pure exasperation sat on his face when he turned back to her, “What did you do?”
She smiled awkwardly, waving the envelop nervously, “I’ve… uh… brought you a gift” She said, clearing lightly.
“A gift?”
“Open it” She said pushing the envelope forward.
He grabbed it and watched as her fingers nervously tapped on the counter. Headaches, she gave him headaches lately. Heartbroken headaches, worried headaches, nervous headaches… all in all the amount of hours he devoted to worrying about her was more than anything he had spent on anybody else. So when she did things like this, show up out of nowhere, smile nervously because she knew he most likely wouldn’t like what she had to say, he became more worried.
He scanned the contents of the document in his hand quickly, and his brow deepened with every single line he scanned over.
“Before you say anything—“
“No” He flat out said.
“But—“
“No!” He snapped.
“I’m just sayi—“
“How many times can I say no?!”
“Baekhyun…” She said coming around to stand beside him, “I could think of no one else, but you”
“I don’t want it! I won’t take it” He said adamantly, “What the hell is this even doing here”
“You have to or… or your father will have to take over” She said quietly.
“I… you can’t just say things like to me. This is emotional blackmail”
She nodded, “It sure is”
“So, what, you and him are running away?” Baekhyun asked quietly, staring at the papers that handed over real control and power of the company that Mina owned… all of it to him.
“I’m running away” She said quietly, “Alone, he didn’t want the company so he told me to give it away and that’s what I’m doing”
Baekhyun went still, “I could go with you” He said instantly, the words coming out faster than his mind could catch up to it.
She looked surprised althgouth why, he couldn’t figure out. He would have thought she knew by now, at the very least suspected. Because even if he had never worked up the nerve to say it to her face, surely she should have figured something out right?
“I would go anywhere with you” He added.
She met his gaze and nodded, smiling sadly, “I know, I really do know” She said quietly and it struck him that Mina wasn’t stupid, she really did know. At some point she had figured it out, she just hadn’t said anything because… there was nothing in her that felt the same.
“Oh” He said simply.
“You’re the best friend I never had, you know that right? That not matter what, we’ll always be friends. I will always want you in my life. I’m running away from him because I need to, but I’m not running away from my best friend” She said, choking up slightly as she wrapped her arms around him tightly, “That’s fine right? That’s ok?”
“Of course” He said quietly,
She pulled away and stared at him for a moment, “I’m quite selfish aren’t I?”
Baekhyun smiled, “Very, but what is there to do, but to put up with you?” He joked.
She seemed relieved, his joke masking his own goodbye quite perfectly.
“So
