Chanyeol had just gotten home from drinking with some of his work colleagues. He wasn’t one to like drinking so much but today, he felt as if he needed it. He has been so stressed lately, from work, from helping his mother with the divorce papers and from chasing you.

He had never, not once, thought that he’d get tired of trying to make you his. He always thought that he loved you way too much to just settle for being your step-brother and nothing more but today, for some weird reason, he just felt tired. Was he tired in general? Or tired of chasing after nothing? He really had no idea.

With the alcohol running through his system, he couldn’t help but share this burden to a workmate, Minseok. It was weird. He had been pretty silent for the most part and then he suddenly turned to the guy saying, “When would you know if you’ve had enough?” Minseok turned away from the other workmate he had been talking to and stared at Chanyeol, looking a little surprised.

He tilted his head, brows furrowed. He thought Chanyeol was talking about the alcohol. “I-I’m not sure. I guess if you feel a little dizzy? Like the floor seems to close to you or nothing stays still anymore then–” Chanyeol chuckled and shook his head. “No, that’s not what I meant.” Minseok awkwardly chuckled back, his hand rubbing on his neck. “Well, what do you mean then?”

Chanyeol stared at him for a good minute without saying anything, then he looked away, downed another shot and made a face. He heaved a deep, deep sigh, biting his lip because he’s unsure if he should tell him. He turned to Minseok one more time and the guy is just waiting, all ears and ready. “There’s this girl…” he started.

He told Minseok of the girl he couldn’t have but so desperately wanted, how he was unable to get his mind off her, how he hadn’t even looked at anyone else since he realized that he had feelings for her, how he had chased after her until now, having no idea whether he’ll get what he wants or stop at a dead end.

He had poured his sentiments out that night and Minseok listened. He listened to him well, without judgement and without pestering Chanyeol to go into details about why he just couldn’t seem to have this girl. He nodded his head when Chanyeol finished talking. He let everything sink into his brain before he opened his mouth.

He was careful, hesitant too but he said what he wants to say anyway. “I think… You’ve had enough, Chanyeol. I don’t want to hurt you by saying this but… It seems like you’ve wasted enough time on this girl. Maybe it’s time that you move on? You’re a good guy, Chanyeol. You deserve someone who won’t lead you nowhere…”

Chanyeol swallowed the lump forming in his throat. Minseok is absolutely right, he thinks. He had blinded himself with you. He had missed out on all the other opportunities of having someone actually love him back because he was too busy making you his entire world. Maybe you are just not meant to be? Maybe it’s not just the sibling status stopping you guys?

He let out a shaky breath and started to nod his head. He gave Minseok a bitter smile before saying his thanks. The older male returned an unsure smile, his hand patting on Chanyeol’s shoulder in a form of comfort for the guy.

Now, Chanyeol is snuggly tucked in bed, sober and freshly showered. He lied down with his eyes staring up at the ceiling, his thoughts all over the place. He honestly felt a little pathetic. He’s shoving himself into a situation that he shouldn’t be part of. It was supposed to be just between you, Sehun and Baekhyun but he just had to in, didn’t he?

Not only was he making it difficult for you but for himself too. “Idiot…” he said, sighing and closing his eyes for a brief moment. He took a deep breath and held it in. As he let his breath go, he had also let go of his feelings, of you.

He woke up the next day feeling slightly refreshed. His heart has been feeling heavy these days but at that moment, it felt light, at ease, peaceful. When he got out of his bed and picked his phone up, he didn’t send you a text like he most likely would. He just stared at it, frozen. Almost, he had almost texted you but he didn’t.

He locked his phone and threw it to his bed before heading into the bathroom. He had done his morning routines like a lifeless body, like he no longer had purpose in life now that he has given up on you and that honestly scared him. It seemed as though without you, there isn’t a him either.

He shook those scary thoughts away, shoved it at the back of his head really as he dressed and headed straight to work. Unfortunately, there had been a problem with his car so he had to call a towing company to take it off the damn road and took a bus to work instead.

He was late and he knew he was going to receive hell from his boss for it but to his luck, he was out for a meeting and his workmates were to engrossed in work to even notice that he was late. He sighed in relief as he made it to his desk. He put his bag down and noticed that the empty desk beside his seemed to be occupied.

His brows furrow as he peeked over. A girl had suddenly popped out from under the newly occupied desk and gave him a damn heart attack. He cursed out loud at the girl before he could even stop himself, making the once busy office stunned into silence. They all stared at him.

The new girl bit her lip anxiously and bowed her head in apology. “I’m very sorry to scare you, s-sir. My pen just rolled off under the desk and…” Chanyeol quickly nodded his head, flushed from how he just acted. “I-It’s alright. I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that…” Now that the girl was actually looking at Chanyeol in the eyes, she couldn’t seem to look away anymore.

It made him very uncomfortable, all the more that everyone else is still staring at him too. He cleared his throat, making the girl snap out of her trance and shyly tuck her hair behind her ear. She looked away from him and quickly sat on her chair. Chanyeol did the same, shooting everyone else a look and making them get back to work right away.

Once Chanyeol had gotten to work too, his focus was on nothing else. It had been hours already. His brows were heavily furrowed and he is hunched over in front of his desktop when a cup of coffee was set on his desk. He had distractedly thanked whoever had given it but looked up immediately when the person spoke.

It was that new girl again. She flashed him a small smile. Judging from her tray of coffee cups, he figured that this girl was an intern here. She was giving them out, all of them having tiny notes stuck to them. He finally stopped staring at her and looked down his own cup.

Fighting! You’re working hard ><

Chanyeol blinked at the note and looked up to stare at this new girl again. He didn’t quite feel anything. It wasn’t like he had taken an interest in her right then and there but he’d have to admit that he is curious of her. He stopped from typing away on his desktop and suddenly began to stare at her every move without him even noticing it.

It had only been three days but Chanyeol had already seemed fond of Hae Kyu. She was an easy person to get along with and really, it was kind of hard not to get close to her when their desks were right beside each other. When they lean back from their desktops to stretch or take a quick break, they end up talking about this and that.

Chanyeol found it refreshing. It had been a while since he’s had a female friend. Hae Kyu seems to really like being friends with him too. Maybe even more because the girl moved fast. On the fifth day of them being friends, she was the one who asked him out.

It came as such a surprise to Chanyeol. He was nervous, scared that he might get awkward on the date but he took a shot anyway. He was moving on. For the longest time of only having eyes for you, for not at all seeing that there were probably other girls out there that could love him and all of him, someone who can love him with no hesitations or restrictions, maybe he can find this someone in Hae Kyu.

Everything was going fine. Or at least, it was supposed to. But it isn’t and that’s all because you just had to get back into the picture and ruin everything for Chanyeol. It was aggravating really. Just when he thought he could finally move on, just when he thought he was having feelings for Hae Kyu, genuine ones, you just had to comeback.

You just had to suddenly look for him when he’s not there. You just had to suddenly need him there with you. He tried to be a brother, to tend to you when you needed him to but it was hard without having his old feelings for you resurfacing. It wasn’t like he could avoid you anyway. He is your brother.

But there was something off about him these days. He treats you differently, you noticed. It was weird, forced and when you find out why he was suddenly acting so indifferent with you, you couldn’t help but be confused. You thought that he loved you… Why is he dating someone?

It was so strange for you and you can’t help but be protective of your brother or maybe… you were getting jealous? You didn’t mean it, you didn’t notice it. You’re just so used to Chanyeol only having his attention on you and now that it isn’t, you kind of feel territorial.

Chanyeol was noticing this weird reaction from you and he hated it. He’s mad because you’re giving him mixed signals. What is it that you really want from him? What the are you doing to him? He was patient with you, he always is but everyone has their breaking point, don’t they? Here’s Chanyeol’s.

“What the is your problem? Didn’t you try pushing me away before? More than ing once? Does it feel weird now that I’m not chasing after you? Do you find my misery entertaining or something? Why are you ruining things for me?!” He yelled out of nowhere. You were taken aback by the sudden outburst but y
