DARKNESS

 

"I like Darkness," You told me once.

"I find joy in Her company."

I used to wonder,

when you were asleep

after a night of whispered sweet nothings

and passionate kisses

I'd stare and study your mien

wondering how a lover of tenebrosity

could love someone at the other end of the spectrum

I chalked it up to the popular belief

a hymn sung by romance books and movies alike

that opposites attract

But a heartbreak and dozens of bottles later

I learnt and I understood

How and why you were so attracted

You weren't in love with what I was,

what was contained within

You were in love with what you could turn me into

Because I was full of Light

bright and illuminating

The perfect body for you to taint

Because you didn't just like Darkness and Her company

You craved it like vampires did blood

You wanted a world free for Her to roam

So you set off to kill every embodiment of Light

The enemy of what you loved so much

And you did it one body at a time

Trying to let Light fade out

And now here I am

A carcass of Darkness that you fed drop by drop 

(so that I suspected nothing)

That once contained Light and stood out

But now faded into the dark, dark world you love so much
