Frankie-chan: Is it really okay for me to be texting you now?   Me: I told you, it’s fine. I’m already done with work.   Frankie-chan: Oh, okay…   Me: You have a job, right? Did you go to work already?   Frankie-chan: Yeah :) I finished with classes and everything at six.   Me: Lucky! I wish I could’ve finished early.   Frankie-chan: Don’t think about it! You’re done now, right?   Me: Haha yeah, that’s true :)   Shuya’s phone had been alight with messages like these for the majority of the day, as he went through classes and his closing shift at Trader Joe’s. The longest that he had gone that day without responding to Frankie was for the two hours that he had spent in soccer practice, and he couldn’t say that he minded. Their conversation was easy and consistent, and his phone was going off more than usual; for Shuya, that was saying something. His attention was on his phone as he left the student center and headed out to the Cobra Stop on the main street, pausing just long enough to board the Cobra and swipe his ID in the card reader, and to pick a seat near the front. His ride was relatively brief, as most Cobra rides were; the bus let him off outside of the theater and he headed across the street to the houses, diverting his attention between his phone and his trip to the First House. His normally leisured pace was quickened slightly as he neared his home. He had to move quickly; he didn’t want to be late.   The First House was just as lively as usual; he could hear housemates playing video games in the main area of the lobby as well as people talking and laughing in the kitchen and dining area. He was greeted by almost everyone he passed as he headed down the hall to the elevators; he greeted them in turn before turning his attention back to his phone on the elevator, leaning back against the wall as he responded to Frankie’s latest message.
