It was no secret that Shuya was usually a staple on AIASF’s campus, and at AIASF’s social events, but every couple of weeks or so he would go missing for a weekend, getting away from sports, school and friends for a couple of days, for some relative solitude.
Frankie was busy that weekend between meeting with Impression, and going with her sister back to San Pablo to see their mother; it was the perfect time for him to take his leave as well, and as soon as he finished with class and practice that Friday he packed a bag and left the First House and AIASF altogether, his headphones in his ears as he walked. Just over an hour later, he was in the Richmond District, where a light rain was falling, and the ocean, being just a street over, made the air significantly colder. Shuya was prepared for this; he was already wearing a hoodie when he stepped off of the bus, continuing the rest of his trip on foot. His destination was a small duplex building, hidden behind a slightly larger apartment building on Balboa Street, only accessible by a long staircase that ventured off from the sidewalk. Shuya ducked his head and traveled briskly up these stairs, wrapping his fingers around the keys in his pocket as he drew nearer to the landing. He reached the duplex and continued on to the apartment on the second level of the building, using the key that he had been holding to let himself inside.
The apartment was tiny, with just enough room in the front for the two mismatched sofas, armchair and coffee table that made up the living room, and the table and two chairs pushed up against the far wall beneath the windows that made up the dining room area. Shuya closed and locked the front door behind him and paused to step out of his shoes before making the few strides down the worn hallway that it took to get to the two bedrooms and one bathroom at the back of the apartment, stepping into his bedroom for the first time in weeks to drop his bag off on the messy bed. He took a seat next to his bag, taking a moment to continue the conversation that he had been having with Frankie through text messages, as well as a couple of the ones he had
