The Confession

Fairies

The Nature Fairy was flustered at her sudden question, it was somehow surprising yet adorable because of the blank face the girl had. It was like an innocent question that a curioius child would only ask and Eunji couldn't help but to smile.

"W-Why are you suddenly laughing unnie? I'm serious!" pouted Naeun, disappointed that Eunji didn't take her question seriously.

"Sorry, you're just really cute at times. Aigoo....what do I with you?" laughed Eunji as she gently pinched her swollen cheeks.

"Stop avoiding the question unnie...."

"Do I like girls? That is a hard question. What about you Naeun-ah?" asked Eunji casually as she appeared confident and no longer afraid to express her actual feelings. She had a hunch that this was the right moment to confess herself.

"I asked first." said Naeun bluntly.

"I like boys, like what any normal girl would do. Girls.....maybe? Yes? No? It's a difficult question to answer. Of course, there are times where my heart beats fast because a girl is too beautiful or charming. Sometimes, that girl can be really cute because she's so clumsy so I have to take really good care of her."

"W-Who's that girl?" asked Naeun innocently, still unable to get the hint. Eunji couldn't help but to smile as it stretched across her lips, she can't hide her happiness upon hearing that. It was clearly obvious that Naeun was jealous to know that there was a girl that made her heart flutter. But she had no idea that it was her.

"A lucky girl but I don't know if she will accept my heart. After all, not everyone likes the idea of loving the same gender."

"Unnie....I didn't know you were that kind of person...."

"Why? Is it weird? Is it strange to like another girl?"

"No.....I think love doesn't have any limits. If you really love that girl, you should confess to her. I'm happy that unnie found someone because I thought she was going to be forever single in her life. Anyways, I wish you all the luck unnie. Really." said Naeun as her eyes faltered. Her heart seemed to have dropped to the bottom realising that Eunji had someone else in her life. She was upset but tried to hide her feelings. It was a complicated feeling because she couldn't express herself. It was frustrating.

"You still don't get it Naeun-ah?" asked Eunji with a smile.

"What?"

"Do you want to know who's that lucky girl?"

"Who?"

"It's you."

"Huh?" said Naeun, confused.

"I'm serious Naeun-ah!"

"But......"

"You think I'm joking? I'll show you that I mean it. I'm not going to hide anymore." said Eunji as she grabbed her cheeks and pulled it towards her lips. As the two fairies locked lips for the first time, flowers began to sprout in the middle of nowhere as a rain of hail suddenly spilled down. It appeared to be the effect of their powers when they fell in love as they kissed at the small alleyway that nobody knows of. They were not even aware of what was happening, the girls were still confused about their feelings for each other and hoping to find the answer through their lips. It was strange but their heart pounced with each second ticking by. As they stared into their eyes and felt each other's breath beneath their noses, it felt as if all they needed was each other. It didn't matter if the world wanted to break them apart because they will always be together.

"Sorry, did I take away your first kiss?" smiled Eunji as she fixed Naeun's disheveled hair.

"Kinda...." said Naeun shyly, unsure what to expect.

"This is what I feel towards you Naeun-ah. You don't have to answer now, it doesn't really matter if you don't like me or anything. No matter what, I'll protect you. Even if you love someone else, I'll be at the side supporting you. I don't want this to turn awkward so let's just forget that never happened." said Eunji as she proceeded to walk off but Naeun grabbed her hand.

"No, I have my answer."

The older girl stared at her. Naeun was definitely full of surprises, she had changed so much since. She has gotten more confident in herself and was able to do things the way she wanted, it was a huge improvement which made Eunji happy and relieved.

"You don't need to pressure yourself Naeun-ah."

"I don't want to keep running away anymore."

"Naeun-ah." said Eunji as she turned and looked into her eyes.

"Do you love me?" asked the girl. Naeun nodded shyly, finding it difficult to say those three letter words. But it was enough for Eunji to understand, knowing of her personality well.

"Me too. Come on, we shouldn't be staying around here. We're supposed to do our mission." said Eunji as she grabbed onto her hands, interwined her fingers with hers tightly as they walked out of the school compound, heading back to the apartment.

"Wow, there's cherry blossoms in summer. That's a rare sight." said Namjoo as the two girls walked along the street, returning back to the apartment after an unsuccessful search.

"There's also hail falling from the ground. This is really strange unnie....." said Hayoung finding it rather suspicious. It was almost like a natural phenomenon but the maknae was very sure that it was the work of Eunji and Naeun's powers.

It was then, they could hear the ground shaking as there was a loud explosion in between one of the alleyways. By looking at the thunderbolt that struck from above, it was clear that Bomi was nearby and they were in a battle. Feeling the urgency to help them, they quickly ran over only to see Chorong and Bomi involved as they did their best to fight against the swift yet powerful Choi Tae Joon.

"Namjoo-ya! Hayoung-ah! Watch out!" shouted Chorong as Hayoung had quick reflexes and quickly used her air powers to push away the sharp, black thorns that flew past.

"Oh yeah~ reinforcements have arrived~" grinned Bomi as she managed to form a thunder sword in her hands. Earlier, she had protected Chorong by reflecting the attack with her sword, a technique that she had been trying hard to master. With the arrival of the Water and Air Fairy, the enemy was outnumbered as they slowly cornered the man. Chorong on the other hand, was faced with worry as she had noticed the sudden change in weather, the appearence of hail and cherry blossoms suddenly blooming, she knew what exactly had caused it. It was none other than the work of love.

"Chorong unnie, what are you doing standing there?!" said Namjoo as she was busy conjuring a large wave.

"S-Sorry! Bomi-ah, move aside!" said Chorong as she got distracted and quickly got back to business, creating a formation with her hands as a black flame arose from her hands.

"Woah, what kind of flame is that?" said Bomi in fascination as she moved to the side. Taejoon had already crippled as he could no longer stand up. Chorong shot the black flame straight into his chest and immediately pulled it out, as a black ash started to splurge across.

"Bomi-ya, take the container and put his soul inside!" instructed Chorong to which the younger girl ran across to grab the container that laid on the ground, twisted the lid open and netted every single drop of black ash in before closing it tightly.

"So, mission complete?" asked Namjoo.

"I haven't even started." said Hayoung in disappointment, unable to fully use her powers.

"The demon is already trapped inside. Now the only problem is the victim left that has been freed from his possession." said Chorong as she pointed towards Taejoon, whose eyes slowly changed back to normal.

"Oh wait, so Choi Tae Joon is the name of the man who got possessed by the demon. I thought he was the demon." said Bomi blankly.

"You idiot...." sighed Chorong as she facepalmed, not surprised.

"Hey, he's waking up unnie." said Hayoung as the man groaned. He slowly opened his eyes only to see four girls in front of her.

"A-Am I in heaven or something?" mumbled Taejoon as he touched his chest only to see blood on his hands.

"We have to go before he fully regains his conciousness." instructed Chorong.

"We can't just leave him like that unnie!" said Bomi.

"We came here for the demon, not him." said Chorong.

"But that guy over there is a human! Aren't we supposed to save lives?" argued Bomi.

The Fire Fairy could only sigh. After all, she couldn't really understand the meaning of life for mortals. She was only blinded and focused with their mission.

"Do whatever you want. We're going back." said Chorong as she walked off, carrying the container in her hands.

"B-Bomi unnie, I'm going first...." said Namjoo, frightened by the leader's aura and decided to follow Chorong instead.

"I'm going too. See you later Bomi unnie." said Hayoung as she too, didn't want to get scolded.

"Y'all are just cowards." sighed Bomi as she saw the maknaes off and eventually was left alone with the man called as Choi Tae Joon. Looking at him, he just seemed like any other ordinary human. The fact that he attacked them before, completely vanished as Bomi wanted to help him out. She placed herself in his position and would understand how confusing he must've felt, being possessed.

"Come on, let's take you to the hospital." said Bomi as she single-handedly pulled Taejoon up, placed his lifeless body over her back and carried it like it was nothing.

"Oh wait, I should take this out." said Bomi as she took out the ring so that she could be seen as she walked to the nearest hospital. Slowly, Bomi handed the man over to the nurses and quickly wore back her ring, immediately turning invisible as she got out quickly and headed back to the apartment.

"That girl....." mumbled Taejoon in his half-concious state, wondering just who was that girl.

~X~

Back at the apartment, all five girls assembled as they waited for Bomi to return before heading back to Heaven to complete their mission. But the members could feel that, something was up with Chorong. Anyone could tell that she was angry, frsutrated and was just having a bad day. Eunji and Naeun who just came in, had no idea what had happened but Hayoung signalled them that they would explain it later. Because of Chorong's emotions, the weather suddenly got hotter and rose to about 40 degrees in the middle of the Korean summer.

"I'm back~" said Bomi with a smile but soon, she realised that it was definitely not the right time to be bright and cheerful. Upon opening the door, the Fire Fairy glared at her. It was obvious that Bomi's decision to help Taejoon was a wrong move as the girl gulped, walking into the apartment.

"Let's go. We don't have time to waste." sighed Chorong as the girls listened obediently, gathered in a circle as a bright white light flashed across their eyes. In a split second, they were back at Heaven. It all happened too quickly as the girls wonder when they'll ever be able to see Earth again. Would it be another year or a decade when they return? Or will it be centuries by then? It's a question that floated in their minds but they knew that life is different now, they are fairies now, not mortals.

"U-Unnie, where are you going? Do we follow you or what?" asked Bomi nervously, seeing the girl walk off without informing the others.

"I'm heading back to return and complete our mission. I'll need to write a report afterwards. All of you can head back to the dorm first. I'll inform you what's next later, just rest for now." said Chorong in a hurry as she soon disappeared.

"Why are you always running away from me?" mumbled Bomi sadly as she looked down.

"Don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe Chorong unnie is just really busy and it's difficult for her to explain." comforted Eunji as she hung her arm around her shoulder.

"She's right. Maybe when the right time comes, she'll be able to explain everything. Let's go home for now unnie." said Hayoung.

"But...Chorong unnie didn't look like she was in a good mood..." said Naeun.

"Ah....well, it's Bomi's fault really....." said Namjoo as she glanced at the older girl who pouted.

"What did you even do to make her angry like that Bom-ah? Did you do something stupid again?" sighed Eunji, doubting her friend.

"Let's talk about this at the dorm unnies." suggested Namjoo to which the girls agreed as they remembered the directions that Chorong taught them before and were able to find their way in the maze-like building.

Back at their home, the five fairies were slightly exhausted at their first mission. They felt weird returning back to their home and seeing how things have changed and how everyone thinks that they're either "dead" or "missing". It gave them something to think about. Naeun decided to go to her room and take a nap, giving her space to reflect on the things that happened today including Eunji's love confession. The maknaes on the other hand, still had energy and decided to visit the local library. They were curious as to what kind of books they would find in Heaven and went off first, promising to their unnies that they will return by 7pm. This left the 93-line friends alone in the living room.

"What did you do this time Bom-ah?" asked Eunji in worry, knowing fully-well that Bomi does things without thinking and in turn, may not know that it can hurt others.

"But it's the right thing to do.....the man who got possessed by the demon, I helped and brought him to the hospital....Chorong unnie said to just leave him right there....I couldn't possibly do that....." pouted Bomi who couldn't understand the Fire Fairy's logic. It was a decision that indirectly told her to let the man die.

"Bomi-ya." said Eunji as she turned to her friend.

"Don't forget that Chorong unnie isn't like us. She isn't a human who has lived on Earth, there's no way she could possibly understand the small meanings of life that we humans share. Maybe she was in a hurry to finish the mission because it may have gotten more dangerous the longer we stayed, there are lots of possibilities. Try to think about what you did. What do you think made her angry? The fact that you didn't listen to her or the fact that she was upset because you chose to help the man?" said Eunji, explaining her thoughts logically. Eunji was slightly more sharper than her other half and wanted to help her in anyway possible.

"But...it's not fair...." pouted Bomi still unable to understand.

"Bom-ah, if you want to make her yours, the first step is doing everything she likes. You've already made the wrong move. I wish you luck in winning her forgiveness." said Eunji as she patted her friend.

"Oh yeah, what happened with you and Naeun? Did you even realise that sudden cherry blossoms and hail on the streets? Was that your doing?" asked Bomi as she immediately changed the topic and targeted her friend.

"Ah.....about that.......I'm actually wondering whether Chorong unnie is also mad about that...." laughed Eunji nervously.

"SO I'M NOT THE ONE AT FAULT!"

"NO YOU ARE TOO!"

"WHAT? THEN WHAT ABOUT YOU?!

"OKAY WE'RE BOTH AT FAULT!"

"Fair enough...." pouted Bomi.

"Honestly, I'm a bit scared Bom-ah."

"What do you mean?"

"You know love is forbidden here and I've already broken the law. It's just that I'm not caught yet but even so....I'm scared. I don't know what will happen.....I don't want Naeun to get hurt just because of me....." said Eunji as she expressed her worry.

"But as long as the two of you are together, nothing can stop you." said Bomi as she randomly blurted out her honest thoughts.

"Bom-ah." said Eunji as she smiled.

"What? What did I do now?" whined Bomi.

"Nothing. Thanks, that made me feel better." smiled Eunji as she playfully pushed her head away. This of course, caused Bomi to push Eunji too and eventually, the 93-line friends started fighting with each other like small children. It was small moments like these that made them forget worries that clouded their hearts. But they didn't know that during this whole time, Naeun was hearing their conversation. It was all thanks to Bomi's random shouting that the Ice Fairy couldn't sleep and wanted to head outside to take a sip of water only to hide behind, eavesdropping the conversation.

Upon realising how love is forbidden, Naeun had come to a conclusion. Although it was something that would hurt both her and Eunji a lot but it was the only way to protect their love from falling.

Meanwhile, the maknaes who still were full of energy headed downstairs and out into the open streets that resembled so much of Seoul, it was strange yet comforting. Although the only difference was that there was not a single soul around, it didn't matter because they had each other.

"Where was the library again? I can't remember what Teacher Hoya said..." said Namjoo as she tried to recall.

"It should be at that tall tower over there." said Hayoung as she pointed towards the skyscraper that towered across the sky and above the clouds.

"Hey....isn't that where Chorong unnie always go to?"

"I think that's the headquarters....."

"Wow, sounds really scary...what if we meet those scary superiors that Chorong unnie mentions about?" said Namjoo as she hugged the maknae's arm and squeezed herself in between.

"There's nothing to be scared of. You just smile, bow and wait until they leave." said Hayoung cooly without even flinching.

"You're really cool Hayoung-ah. Heck, if only you were a guy, I would totally date you." smiled Namjoo as she looked up at the tall maknae who seemed flustered at the girl's sudden words.

"W-What are you talking about unnie? I'm just like that because I'm used to it..." said Hayoung shyly as she looked away.

"Why are getting shy over that? Ah, you're really cute Hayoung-ah. Seriously, I've would've made you my boyfriend if only you were a guy.." mumbled Namjoo as she smiled.

"L-Let's go to the library...." said Hayoung as her steps became faster, wanting to avoid the topic of "love" quickly. She had always been uncomfortable because the maknae never recieved love before.

Soon, the two girls reached the tower that seemed intimidating at first, staring down at them like ants. But, they had the courage to enter because they had each other. Inside, it was like a totally different world. With an endless spiral staircase leading towards the upper floors as the main lobby decorated with various pieces of French and Romanian paintings, furniture and all sorts while rows of towering shelves filled the gaps in between along with tables and chairs scattered in an orderly manner, it was unlike any other library. But what was strange was, there was no one around. Or rather, during their entire stay in Heaven for the past weeks, the girls had never meet a single person besides Hoya, Chorong and themselves. It felt rather suspicious but they shrugged off such ideas thinking maybe, there was a sort of timelapse in between.

"Wow, it feels like I'm in a foreign land!" said Namjoo in astonishment, looking up at the ceiling to see how vast and beautiful it was as a chandelier as large as a ship hung from above accompanied with paintings of the sky. Unlike the excited older girl, Hayoung immediately proceeded to browse the thousand of books that showcased itself among the shelves. She was girl who loved knowledge and wanted to learn more about Heaven, a place that always raises a question because it was often illustrated among many stories depicting it as a place of happiness, a paradise and many others. But, what was the actual truth? The Air Fairy wanted these answers.

"Hayoung-ah, don't wander off!" said Namjoo as she followed the girl who walked into one of the shelves, scanning the books like a robot.

The girl arrived at the "History" section as she flipped through books that spoke of war, destruction and victory. It contained many evidences as to why certain wars on Earth happened due to the nature of weather or the work of demons living in hell. Dating as old as the Choseon Dynasty all the way to the Second World War, it was a lot of content to absorb. But Hayoung was unfazed, not even falling asleep as she enthusiastically learnt and memorized.

"Hayoung-ah, do you find these....interesting?" asked Namjoo who got bored. The maknae simply nodded in response with her eyes still focused on the pages.

"Cute..." laughed Namjoo softly, seeing an adorable side of Hayoung she had never seen before. Although at times she looked mature but here, she was like a curious kid who wanted to learn everything about the world.

"Nine goddesses?" mumbled Hayoung as she read one of the books.

"Broke the rules of falling in love......a history that cannot be forgotten.......a war that began due to conflict.........." murmured Hayoung as she read through while speaking, confused at what she had found.

"What are you reading Hayoung-ah?" asked Namjoo.

"Unnie, remember when Teacher Hoya told us that we must never fall in love and how Chorong unnie did that once?"

"What about that?"

"I don't think Chorong unnie is the first person who did that......other people have done that too and punishments have been really severe......"

"Wow, they're really taking this love thing really seriously....but why? What's so wrong in falling in love? I don't get it..." said Namjoo in thought as she scooted over and looked at the book Hayoung was holding.

"Out of the nine goddesses who have protected Earth for centuries, two had finally fallen and broke the rules after gaining so much respect and loyalty from everyone.......a history that we will never forget......a reason why love is the start of every single problem....." read Hayoung out loud as her eyebrows furrowed, still confused at the whole situation.

"Wait, wait, basically it's because of this incident that they decided to implement this law of not falling in love....." said Namjoo trying to understand what is being written.

"What are you girls doing here?" said a voice from behind. Namjoo who became surprised immediately hugged Hayoung out of fear, thinking that they were in trouble as the younger girl fearlessly looked behind only to see a woman who was about half her height, long hair with rather, chubby features and thick lips. Certainly, they have never met her before.

"Who are you?" asked Hayoung in a polite manner.

"I'm one of those nine goddesses written in the book that you're holding my child." said the woman, who seem to speak like a grandmother.

~X~

It had already gone past 5pm and the sun has disappeared, Eunji wondered where on earth were the maknaes as they still weren't back. Bomi had been wandering around, thinking how to apologize and make Chorong happy again while Naeun just woke up fully rejuvenated from her slumber. It was at that moment, the door opened.

"You're finally back, why on earth would you spend like four hours at a library are you crazy or something I'm so gonna-" scolded Eunji thinking that the maknaes were back but as she took a look closer, she simply laughed nervously, bowed in apology and ran back to the living room out of fear. It was Chorong that returned and by the look at face, she certainly was not happy. With a sigh, she walked in and sat at the couch, ignoring the others.

"Y-You're not gonna like hit me or anything unnie?" asked Eunji nervously, hiding her face behind a pillow.

"U-unnie......did you have a hard day or something?" asked Bomi in worry, knowing that something definitely happened while she was away to send the container to the superiors.

"Where's Naeun?" asked Chorong coldy. Anyone could tell from her tone that she was mad at something.

"I'm here unnie." said Naeun imemdiately coming out of her room like an obedient daughter.

"Eunji-ya, Naeun-ah, you don't need to hide anything from me. It's already too obvious what's happening." sighed Chorong.

"W-What do you mean unnie?" asked Eunji as her eyes glanced at Naeun.

"Look at this. This is the newspaper from Seoul. My superiors gave it to me." said Chorong as she took out the paper from her bag that had a huge headline at the front written:

[FIRST EVER CHERRY BLOSSOM AND HAILSTORM DURING SUMMER, A NATURAL PHENEMENON THAT EVEN SCIENTISTS CAN'T EXPLAIN?]

"This....." said Eunji as she gulped.

"Be honest with me. The two of you kissed didn't you?" asked Chorong in calm manner yet with a scary, intimidating glare at the two.

Naeun hesitated in front of Chorong, frozen in front of her aura but Eunji carefully held the girl's hand and took a deep breath.

"That's right unnie. We know it fully well. It's against the law to fall in love, but we did it anyway. There's nothing wrong with falling in love, I don't even see why-"

"That's enough." said Chorong as Eunji turned silent.

"That's one problem. There's another. Bomi-ya."

"Y-Yes unnie?" said Bomi immediately wide awake as the girl pointed her out.

"Look at this." sighed Chorong as she turned to the next page of the newspaper with one article entitled:

[Actor Choi Tae Joon who set up an internet movement to search for a woman that saved his life is presumed to be missing high school student, Yoon Bomi who vanished one year ago]

"I told you to be careful Bom-ah." said Chorong as she glared at the younger girl.

"I-I'm sorry...." said Bomi quietly, finally realising why the girl told her to stop.

"W-We didn't know that it would turn out to be like this...." said Naeun carefully, trying to put justice into their situation.

"No, it's my fault. As a leader, I should've warned you the effects while being on Earth. But, it's too late. I failed being your leader." said Chorong as she let out with an heavier sigh that carried the burden along.

"W-What are you talking about unnie? Are we in like really....really big trouble?" asked Bomi in worry.

"Yes, all of you are. The superiors would like to talk with you. Where are the maknaes?"

"Namjoo and Hayoung went to the library."

"Oh no...." said Chorong again with another sigh.

"Why? Is there something wrong?" asked Eunji in confusion.

"We need to go there now." said Chorong in a rush.

"H-Huh?" said Bomi in a daze.

"You slowpokes! Hurry!" said Chorong dragging the three girls out of the dorm, as she ran downstairs, out onto the streets and towards the high tower that stood proudly in the middle of the land called, Heaven.
