On every news channel flashed the same breaking news that had everyone flustered in their houses.

“A Ferrari that has been used during many races has allegedly been flipped many times before a fire started… Reports say that a young racer around the age of 27 is now in critical condition after her body was dragged out of by a passer-by before the fire started…”

“It was said that a race was going on during the same time when one of the cars spun out of control; going onto the main road after crashing into the barrier. It was a terrible tragedy that has placed more than two lives in grave danger; furthermore, the three vehicles involved are all seriously damaged, which escalates the situation the victims are in.”

“Traffic news report that the Ferrari had suddenly moved onto the road when it was supposed to be within the racing circuit and that was the start of the accident – it wasn’t just a sports car and a taxi though, there was also a truck carrying barrels of hot oil that was supposed to be used for work purposes.”

“OH FOR GOD’S SAKES!”

“Honey, calm down… please,” Soohyun begged, holding onto his wife’s arms, “they haven’t confirmed it to be our daughter yet. Please.” Hyejung turned to her husband and buried her face in his chest, her hands desperately grabbing onto Soohyun’s already-crumpled shirt, “what am I to do if it really is her, Soohyun? I don’t think my heart can take it anymore…” 

Soohyun stayed silent; his heart was pumping at the speed of light at the very thought of the victim being his precious daughter. He had already lost his son because of a similar accident that happened two years ago and if it happened to his daughter - that was the end of him too. 

As night began to darken the surroundings, a surgeon who has been busy for the whole day is enjoying the peacefulness of her apartment. She has been running in and out of the surgery room for hours; she wasn’t about to let her chance to rest end so easily. Moving towards the balcony, the tired doctor let out a deep breath and sighed, nothing has changed after so many years.

Her gaze still travelled to the photo frame sitting on her coffee table time and again, making her heart hurt at the happy memories she had made back then. She often wondered if happiness was a real thing because it seemed to be impossible for her to find genuine happiness.

Another sigh was released as she brought the glass of Chardonnay to her lips, taking a sip of the delicious, rich white wine. Though it wasn’t long before her phone started to vibrate, breaking the silence.

“Hello?”  

“Yoona-ah!”

Yoona smiled at her friend’s jittery voice, “no need to shout, Fany-unnie. I’m right here and I’m not deaf yet.”

“Y-Yoona... did you watch the news?”

A frown surfaced upon Yoona’s face at Tiffany’s nervous and shaky tone, something her friend never used even when there were emergencies. She had to remain calm though; it was already difficult with Tiffany being nervous and unstable like this. Yoona slowly put down her glass of wine and walked back into the comfort of her cozy apartment. 

“Seriously, Unnie… what’s wrong?”

“There’s an emergency right now… Code Red.”
