Chapter 26: Jeju Island Part 3.

The playboy

Myungsoo was so very awkward. How could he not be when his two idiots of friends dragged him all over to a wedding neither of them were invited to? And to make matters worse, they actually seem to blend in pretty well. Just what have they been doing with their life? After letting out what seem to be the hundreth sigh, Myungsoo was about to discreetly leave when he felt a hand on his shoulder. At first he thought, he was caught by either Hoya or Dongwoo but then a deep voice, he actually found familiar, discarded the two first options.

"Excuse me, but who are you?" The voice had said. With a frown, Myungsoo slowly turned towards the voice and was immediately brought back at a past memory where the voice were just as clear though less intimidating.

"Kwang Min ssi?" Myungsoo whispered unsure though loud enough for the man to hear.

"Oh, do you know me?" The silver haired man asked with a frown. And that immediately brought a smile to Myungsoo's face. After all, the first time he had met the man, he wore the same frown. Though it was less prominent than now. With a respectful bow, Myungsoo explained politely

"Ah De. I'm Kim Myungsoo. I went once at the Lee's mansion." The older man seemed a little confused so Mungsoo was about to further his explanation when Kwang Min suddenly clasped his hands together in recognition and said

"Ah the blond friend?!"

"That's right."

"Wow, you've changed a lot. No wonder i couldn't recognize you. And well, i'm getting a little old so that makes it even harder." Kwang Min happily joked. Frankly, Myungsoo didn't know how to react at that but seeing how so many people he knew had change (and one in particular), he guessed it shouldn't be such a shocker that the man he thought was strict at first could be so laid back. And well, he only had his first impression to rely on. The man was probably always like this but Myungsoo wasn't around much to know.

"I'm sorry when i first saw you i thought you were some weird guy trying to eat freely. I'm sorry." Myungsoo nervously laughed at that and God did he want to dig a hole and simply disappear right at the moment. But of course, it was just his luck to face the consequences of his act which wasn't willingly done at all. So he was about to explain himself when Kwang Min ssi beat him to it and said

"So you must be here with Sungyeol ah right? Actually where is he?"

"De?" Myungsoo spontaneously said but that went completely unnoticed by Kwang Min whose eyes were staring at something or rather someone behind him. Before Myungsoo had even the time to turn around, a tall and toned figure walked past him and immediately hugged the old butler who happily exclaimed

"Oh, Sungyeol ah! Now haven't you grown?"

"Samchon, i've missed you so much." Sungyeol cutely said and Myungsoo went instantly blank. The new comer didn't seem to have notice him at all and Myungsoo would lie if he said he minded it. In fact, Myungsoo was grateful for it for he doubted that if Sungyeol knew he was here he'd be so laid back and... So him.

You can still smile like that after all, Myungsoo thought nostalgically as he watched Sungyeol affectionnately hug the man he considered as family. When Sungyeol released the old man, he smiled softly at the man and said

"Where's Aunty? I'm going to congratulate her first."

"Oh, she's over there, but tell me what did you want to talk to me about?" Sungyeol glanced once at the loving couple sitting at the center of the room then said

"It can wait. It seems like aunty is calling for you?"

"Huh?" Kwang Min lamely said and indeed, his sister was making him signs to approach. Sighing loudly, Kwang Min clasped affectionately Sungyeol's shoulder and in a almost devastated tone, he said

"Can i use you as an excuse to leave? Please, let's just go. She's been ordering me around since this morning." Sungyeol laughed at that and shook his head much to Kwang Min's despair as he said in a playful tone that immediately tightened Myungsoo's chest because of the familiarity

"It's her day of glory. I'm sorry but you're going to have to suffer in silence." Myungsoo who was silently following the exchange, slowly turned away, feeling like a creep to be standing here but that would be just too easy. And his fate seriously seem to be allergic to that.

"Wah, i didn't know you could be so cruel. I must've raised you wrong." Kwang Min said which only made Sungyeol laugh even more. He was then about to leave when he turned to Myungsoo who was just about to leave and said

"Oh right it was nice seeing you too Myungsoo ssi. You're going to stick around here too right? Well Sungyeol take better care of your friends. I almost threw him out because i thought he was some weird guy." At the sudden attention, Myungsoo wanted more than anything to just end his life. Why did he stick around so long? Now, for sure Sungyeol was going to expose him. , can he get even more embarrassing? As he waited for the expected conclusion, where Sungyeol would ruthlessly get him kicked out of the party or that he'll have him reminded AGAIN that they were as good as stranger, the blow never came. Instead, Sungyeol took Myungsoo aback when he said

"I will Samchon. Sorry, i should've told you that i wouldn't be coming alone."

"It's ok" Kwang Min reassured before walking away though Myungsoo was vaguely aware of that. He was more focused at the fact that Sungyeol actually... Covered for him? Or was it something else? Honestly, he couldn't tell with his mind being all over the place.

And he wasn't the only one. Sungyeol himself didn't know why he did what he did. Actually, his mouth had spoken before his brain could register anything. Why the hell was he being so ambiguous? He didn't care for the boy, or at least he shouldn't. Damn Sungyeol, what are you? A teenager? Get a grip of yourself! He scolded himself mentally but that only made him feel even more stupid. Wasn't he suppose to be more reasonable? Why the hell did logic never seem to be applied when he was dealing with Kim Myungsoo? Pushing those questions aside, not really in the mood in trying to figure out something he knew would only mess him up, he turned to the equally quiet man and asked

"May i know why you are here?" Snapping him out of whatever daze, Myungsoo seem to be in, Sungyeol watched him struggle into giving him a good enough reason that he realized Myungsoo hadn't prepared. So finally putting him out of his misery, Sungyeol said tiredly

"Never mind. Do whatever you want." Sungyeol was going to walk away then but was stop by a tight grip on his wrist. At first, Sungyeol had thought of pulling away, but somehow he had no strenght to do so. Was it because of lack of sleep? Or he was just so tired to fight with this stubborn guy. "Wait." Myungsoo had said, his hand still not releasing Sungyeol's wrist.

"Why did you..."

"Don't ask me troublesome questions. I did what i did because i wanted to, period. There's no reason behind it."

"So you wanted me here?" At those words, Sungyeol spun so quickly he was surprised he didn't lose his balance. And honestly, that little detail was the last of his worries.

"Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say that." Finally pulling his hand away from Myungsoo, who had a way to smug face, Sungyeol turned around and walk toward the bride and the groom to pay his respect. Unaware of the emotional turmoil, he had left someone in.

Myungsoo who was watching Sungyeol leave couldn't help but feel somewhat dejected. Even though, Sungyeol didn't seem to mind his presence and even going so far as to help Myungsoo not make a complete fool of himself, Myungsoo didn't know if he should feel happy about it or not. The image of Sungyeol and Yeona just kept popping in his head making it damn hard to be happy about anything. The truth is, he was even more upset than before. And it freaking annoyed him. Why was Sungyeol like that? Didn't he know that being considerate like this would only hurt him because it meant absolutely nothing to him? What was he whining about anyway? So what if he had a girlfriend and yet was good to him. Myungsoo had only himself to blame. He was the one that came all the way here on his own accords anyway. He should just go back to Seoul.

"Ya, Dongwoo ah, is he alright? Is he broken?" Hoya asked perplexe to an even more confused Dongwoo.

"I don't know. Ya, Soo ah, what are you staring at?" Pinching Myungsoo's face, Dongwoo forced Myungsoo's eyes away from Sungyeol and asked

"Hey what's up with you? Did he tell you that he was only a top? Is that why you're so moody?" With a loud slap at the back of his head, Myungsoo glared, well he tried, at the boy's antic and said darkly

"What disgusting things are you thinking about? He's my boss."

"Omo, how steamy." Hoya added much to Myungsoo's despair. He didn't try to reason with his two best buddies however. Instead, he pulled away from their clingy hands and snapped harshly

"I'm going back to my room. You two have fun alone."

Back in Seoul, Woo hyun was facing a huge dilemma. Should he just stab the man with his fork or slit his throat with his knife? Both option seem awfully tempting. They have been sitting in a chinese restaurant for hours and yet the man kept on being overly childish by putting to later the little work they had to get done. Woohyun only grew tired when the man ordered another plate of meat dragging again and again this pointless meeting. Just what did Sunggyu have in place of a stomach?

"Sorry, but when are we going to be discussing about the exportation strategy? I have some work to do later on and so if we could just quickly get this thing done it would be great." Sunggyu stared at him for a second then turning his attention back to the meat he was grilling in the hotpot, he said

"Oh come to think of it, you're a model right? Are you leaving for a shoot then?"

Damn this guy! Woohyun inwardly groaned before saying in a tone, he hoped amiable

"Yes. So if we could please quikly wrap this meeting up...."

"Who's the photographer? For what magazine or advertisement? How much do you get pay for posing anyway? Do you like your job?" Sunggyu interrupted calmly and that just did it for Woohyun. Setting aside the fork he was holding with a sigh, Woo hyun finally said fuming

"I'm sorry but what are you doing?"

"What do you mean?" Sunggyu asked feigning innocence.

"You know what i mean. Why are you asking me those ridiculous question? We've been here for hours and the only you've been talking about was how good the meal was and what my favorite pet was? What game are you playing?" Sunggyu who didn't seem slightly perturbed by Woohyun sudden raise of voice said

"I'm not playing any game."

"So what?" Woohyun angrily said and almost immediately regretted it, when Sunggyu looked into his eyes and said in a tone, Woohyun had never heard him talk with

"I like you."

"What?"

"You heard me." That was the problem, Woohyun did heard him loud and clear which only confused him further. Was he mad? And after such a confession, how can he act so casual? Even feeding him as if it was the most natural thing to do in the world. This man must really be out of his mind, Woohyun thought as he watched Sunggyu put more meat on his plate. Completely unaware, that he was indeed in for quite a ride.

When they were done eating, Woohyun were already running late for his shoot. So giving up in discussing Sungyeol's affair for the day, he excused himself and was about to leave when Sunggyu caught him by the hand and asked

"Hold on a minute, let me give you a ride." Pulling his hand out of Sunggyu's grasp, Woohyun said

"No thanks. I have my car." Sunggyu looked like he was going to argue but just then Woohyun's phone went off. Turning away from the troublesome guy, Woohyun answered curtly

"Yeollie? What's up?"

"Hyung, how are things with Sunggyu ssi? Good?"

Biting back a curse, Woohyun lied as naturally as he was breathing

"Totally. You can rest assure. You just worry about your stuff and i'll take care of this."

"Are you sure hyung? Actually i'm feeling a bit bad for asking you to do this when i know that your schedule is already so packed."

"Ya, you punk are you saying that i can't do it? You're hurting my feelings here. Anyway tell me, have you spoken with Samchon yet?"

"No."

"Ok, well call me when you're done, ok?"

"I will hyung and thanks again."

"Treat me to a meal then if you're so grateful. Ah, I'm sorry Yeollie but i really have to go. I'll call you later though if you forget to call me."

"Oh, hyung you make it sound like i'm a brat."

"Because you are. Ok, i'm hanging up. Bye."

"De, hyung." Hanging up the phone, Woohyun stayed a moment absorbed in his thought. Actually, he felt weird after his conversation with Sungyeol. He sounded weird and it made him uneasy. It was the same feeling he had right before Sungyeol went missing. Was Sungyeol ok? Did something happen? He was about to get into his car, when Sunggyu, who he had forgotten was still there, took him aback when he asked

"Are you in love with your bestfriend?" Woohyun almost laughed at the absurdity of the thought, he didn't however. Instead, he was appalled by the man's odd train of thoughts. Was he on drugs or something? As mad as he was already, Woohyun got into his car, muttering scathing voice

"Think whatever you want." He was about to close his car door but he somehow found difficulty to do so. Turning his eyes to see what could be the problem, his mood only darkens when he realized that Sunggyu was keeping his door open with his hand. The thought of shoving him aside was really itching him but he decided against it if he wanted to get the damn man to collaborate. So trying to remain calm and collected, he asked

"What now?"

"You didn't answer my question. Do you love Lee Sungyeol?" The is wrong with this guy? No wonder, he didn't like anyone in Myungsoo's entourage. They were all mentally disturbed. What the hell did he mean by if he loved Sungyeol anyway? Of course he did. Myungsoo was his brother from another mother, after all. Gee, what a weird fellow. Well, if by answering his dumb question he'll be able to leave for work then so be it. With a deep sigh, he answered coldly

"Yeah. I love him. Why? Do you have a problem with that?" Woohyun saw a glimpse of something in Sunggyu's eyes but it was so fast he wondered if he actually did saw something. In any case, Sunggyu was finally being not so annoying, so closing his car door, he drove off but not after saying

"I'll see you again. And i hope next time we'll get the job done."

It was late at night when Sungyeol finally got a chance to talk with Samchon. The bride and the groom had already left the party and so only a few remained either because they were too drunk or they were still having a good time. Sungyeol hadn't seen Myungsoo around though. But he guessed, the latter already left. But seeing how late it was, he wasn't so surprise that Myungsoo would've already left. Dongwoo and Hoya however were still there. And as drunk as .

Making his way to where samchon was stitting on, while gazing on the sea, Sungyeol offered him a drink and listened as he said softly

"Isn't it beautiful?"

"What is?" Sungyeol asked before sitting on the beach next to his favorite butler.

"The sea. You know i'm really happy today. My sweet little sister has finally gotten married. One less person to worry about now." Kwang Min ended sarcastically.

"What do you mean that? Are they more people you're worried about?"

"Of course, you punk. You're on top of that list." At those words, Sungyeol's eyes widen momentarily before he settles for a smile honestly touched by the older man's word has been quite some time since someone said that to him.

"Anyway tell me. What is it did you want to talk to me about?" Sungyeol remained a moment silent then finally turning his gaze towards Samchon, he said seriously

"Ah right. Uhm, Samchon, how well do you know about my dad?" The question seem to have confused Kwang Min, for he frowned deeply before he answered

"Pretty well. Why?" Sungyeol took a long amount of his drink then said

"Choi Myriong. What's his relationship with dad?" Sungyeol immediately noted the tense figure of his uncle and the way, his eyes seem to waver momentarily and it made him even more anxious but more curious into why his father and Myriong relationship made Kwang Min so uneasy. Whatever it was, it must be important for even his uncle to look so anxious.

"Why are you asking me that?"

"Samchon, please. I need to know the truth and you're the only one that dad would trust enough to open up to. So please tell me. Whatever it is. I can take it."

"Sungyeol ah please, don't make me answer that."

"Why not? Even if you don't tell me you know that one way or another i'll still find out about the truth. So just tell me now. What's their relationship?" Kwang Min grabbed tightly Sungyeol by the shoulder then said

"Sungyeol ah. Please you can ask me anything but that." Sungyeol clenched unconciously his hands around the beer he was holding and said coldly, though he knew it wasn't toward his uncle in particularly. He was just so tired. Of everything. And not knowing only pushed him over the edge. To the point that he was litterally on the brink of insanity. Ever since he came back, there was so many more questions than answers. And he hated it. He hated not understanding things.

"Why? Why can't you tell me? Should i guess then?" Because Kwang Min was silent, he threw in a sharp tone

"Were they lovers?" Sungyeol only threw that as bait for the man to speak up but seeing as he still refused to talk and turned to pressure him even more, when his eyes widen at the expression the older man had. One of regret, no, was it guilt he was seeing? Why did he look so guilty?

"Sungyeol ah. Let me tell you something about your father. Before he married your mom, he was in a relationship for four years with another person. He was, boy you shoud've seen him. A complete love puppy. He followed that person anywhere. He was capable of doing anything to make that person happy. Actually, he was a lot like you when you were younger. He argued a lot with his father and never allowed him to direct his life. He didn't care about anyone's feelings besides those of that person." Sungyeol listened attentively to Kwang Min's story without understanding much why he was talking about this. He didn't interrupt him though.

"Until one day, your grandfather decided it was time for him to get married. Of course your father refused. He argued countless times, saying that he'll never marry anyone besides the person he loved but your grandfather wouldn't take no for an answer. He knew threats wouldn't work against your dad so he did something... Something else. One day, at a party organized for those of the high society, your grandfather asked me to put something in your father's drink. He knew you dad would only ever drink what i'll offer him so..." Sungyeol didn't have to know more to understand what happened then. And he didn't judge him at all. From the looming guilty in his eyes, he figured that samchon was already paying enough for his crime. And beside, it seems like his father had forgave him since he still worked for them regardless. So it wasn't going to be him to be the first one throwing the stones.

"Your grandfather knew that your father was anything but irresponsible. So he got your father to marry out of responsability."

"What do you mean?"

Kwang Min stayed a moment silent then finally he turned towards Sungyeol and said

"That night, your mother got pregnant. Of you."

Sungyeol was speechless. Or is there another word that can sum up the fact that his heart had fell so low that he didn't know if it was still beating. Or that he couldn't hear anthing else but the echoing sound of samchon's word. Was there a word that designed both feelings? If there was, he'd like to know. 'Cause he didn't know. He really didn't knew a thing.

"Mom... tricked him into marrying her?" Sungyeol blankly said, not even sure if he had just spoken.

"Ya Sungyeol ah. Your father still loved your mother. In his own way but he still loved her. And he loved you and your brother more than anything. You two were the best thing that ever happened him.."

"Choi Myriong."

"Huh?"

"He's the person dad loved so much right?" Kwang Min didn't answer but to Sungyeol was much clearer than if he did answer at all. Scoffing bitterly, he asked

"So he and Myriong..."

"Hang on a second. It's true that they dated but when your mother got pregnant, they broke up. Sungyeol ah, right after your father got married with your mother, he never saw Myriong again. He only met him recently. And by then things had changed between them. Myriong ssi knew that your father wasn't the unfaithful type and your father knew Myriong would never break a family apart so they were nothing more but business rival. Trust me Yeol ah. Your father never cheated on your mom. Not even once. And i know what you must be thinking right now but it's not true. When he found out you were bi, don't think he did what he did to punish you? Because he thought you were the reason why he couldn't be happy."

Knowing that he hit a nerve, Kwang Min forced Sungyeol to look him in the eyes and said

"He was harsh with you because more than anyone he understood you. He himself hadn't been understood when he came out. But that's what made him stronger. He knew that if he was gentle with you, you'll never grow thicker against society. He wanted you to prove to him that you were capable of standing up for yourself. For not being ashamed of who you are. He knew he was harsh but Yeol ah, he did it because he wanted you to confront him. He wanted you to fight with him not like a boy but a man that won't let anyone push their ideals upon him. You have no idea how much he felt guilty everytime he would push you away. I would sometime find him in his study room staring a photo of you and Daeyol and do you know what he says each time he stares at it. He wished life wasn't so harsh. Because then, he wouldn't be so harsh on either of you. It broke his heart when he saw you pained. So you have to believe me. Your father was the best man i've ever known. And he loved you and your brother beyond anything else in the world."

By the end of his speech, Sungyeol was unconciously already in tears. Tears he hadn't shed ever since he buried his parents so when he did realised that he was crying, he was further shocked. He didn't care though. After all, he just found out that his father, the man he was sure had misunderstood him the most was actually the one who understood him the best. That the very same man had gave up so much for them and yet was so many time misunderstood. God, how could he ever be able to face his father again? Trying to swallow back a hiccup though he failed miserably, Sungyeol asked

"Was... Was he still in love...?"

"That's not important."

"Was he?" Sungyeol asked this time in a much firmer tone.

Kwang Min sighed deeply before saying reluctantly

"Yeah. He was. He never stopped loving Myriong. But he loved you and Dayeol too much to be selfish." By then, Sungyeol was already on his feet ready to leave but Kwang Min caught him by the arm and asked warily

"Ya, where are you going?"

"Thank you Samchon. See around."

"No, you're not going anywhere like that. Come on..." Samchon argued but before he managed to get Sungyeol inside, Sungyeol already pulled away from him and left. To where? Even Sungyeol didn't know. All he knew was that he had to get out away. Anywhere. And if possible, to his father.

Myungsoo couldn't sleep. He kicked and turned so many time in his bed and yet sleep avoided him like a plague. Pushing back his blanket, he finally gave up and decided to go out for a walk. He had a lot in his mind anyway. Maybe taking a walk under the moonlight would help him order things in his mind. As he walked out the hotel and went down a random path, he wondered if he should just go back to Seoul first thing in the morning. Staying here would only darken his mood anyway so why bother getting in a foul mood when he could do something coproductive. Then again, he did use his coworkers as his excuse to come here so it seems a bit inappropriate to suddenly just up and leave. Walking down the paved alley, Myugsoo was still going back and forth with his questions when someone suddenly bumped into him. He was about to argue with whoever it was, when the words got stuck in his throat. In front of him stood Sungyeol. And not the confident, unbreakable Sungyeol but a broken Sungyeol. Why was he crying? Myungsoo had wanted to ask but his lips refused to move. At that exact moment, Sungyeol seem to finally notice his presence. And so Myungsoo took it as cue to say something. Anything at all. But before Myungsoo knew what was going on, Sungyeol had already pulled him in a tight hug.

"Sungyeo..." Myungsoo awkwardly whispered, not sure if his heart can handle being held like this, but was instantly silenced when Sungyeol said in a heartwrecking voice, Myungsoo never heard him use

"It hurts. My heart hurts so bad. Myung, what do i do?" At the familiar nickname, Myungsoo's immediately wrapped his arms around Sungyeol trying to soothe the man in any way he could, though he doubted that he could

"What do i do now? It hurts so bad." Tightening nonetheless his grip around the emotionally unstable man, Myungsoo asked calmly, although his heart felt like it was being crashed

"It's ok. It's ok. I got you. Hyung, i got you."

"Myung, please help me. It hurts so much. It hurts so ing much." Those were all the words Myungsoo needed to pull him towards his car. And driving off to a place that hopefully would help ease Sungyeol's pain. Unaware that someone had seen the entire scene.
