Chapter 20: Cold shower.

The playboy

"This day keeps getting better" Sungyeol said sarcastically. Although, it was all his fault. He should've checked his gas quantity before going on a trip like this anyway. Running out of gas was probably the lamest incident a genius like him had had to have. But what was  he suppose to do now? It was a little to late to have regret. Pushing those thoughts aside, he tried to call once again Woo hyun hyung or a garage only to no avail. Sighing, he turned to Myungsoo, who was getting out, himself, from the car and asked

"Are you reaching anyone?"

"Mianhe, but my phone just died." Sungyeol ran a frustrated hands through his hair then letting out an exasperate sigh, he said

"Stay here then. I think i've seen a station not so far from here"

"No, i'm coming with you" Myungsoo immediately retort, annoying further the older man that really, didn't want to spend another minute with the guy. Just when was Myungsoo going to get the hint? Shaking his head sternly, Sungyeol said

"Stay put, L ssi. I'll go alone. You keep an eye on the car."

"Wait, Sungyeol ssi. I'm not asking your permission. I'm coming." Gosh so annoying, Sungyeol wanted to say but thought better, and just turned away instead, muttering in a irrated tone

"Do whatever you want."

Myungsoo knew Sungyeol was annoyed. He sort of had a grasp on the guy's humour by now but when the said guy asked him to stay near the car and he'll look for help alone, Myungsoo reacted before his brain could. And it was all because of one simple emotion. Fear. Fear that he was going to be left behind again. That the minute, he'll allow Sungyeol to walk away, Sungyeol will once again walk out of his life. So he followed. Even if he was only going to watch him from behind, that was enough. A glimpse of his back was much better than him gone. He had lived six years of his life for this one day when he'll be able to see Sungyeol. It was ok if Sungyeol hated him. He could take it. What he couldn't take was if Sungyeol vanish once again from his sight. He barely survived it once. He doubts he could do it a second time, no matter how weak it might make him seem.

Silently, Myungsoo watched Sungyeol walk further and further away from him. Truth be told, it was actually painful but what was he suppose to do. He was the only one at fault for the mountain now separating them. He turned his back on him first. With a sigh, Myungsoo shoved his hands in his pocket and proceeded to walk faster to not lose Sungyeol. Suddenly, a growl was heard from far away. It wasn't exactly a growl from an animal but more like...

"Rain? A storm" Myungsoo muttered wearily. A look from Sungyeol's back, Myungsoo guessed that like him he was also worried at the sudden change of weather.

"You should go back to the car before it starts to rain." Sungyeol suddenly said out of the blue, startling Myungsoo, who didn't expect the man to talk. Less to worry about him. Or was it just another excuse to get him out of his way.

"I'm good. I'm not scared of getting wet."

Sungyeol was about to say something, but eventually he closed his mouth and was about to turn away if Myungsoo hadn't stop him. In fact, Myungsoo was worn out from this make pretend situation. He was hurting and being ignored by the man he was madly in love with only added to his frustration. He did get that Sungyeol definitely didn't seem like he was going to talk to him anytime soon but by keeping all of his hatred bottle in hurt Myungsoo even more 'cause he knew, that his hatred only made him bitter. So if having him venting all his anger can relieve a little, Myungsoo would stop at nothing until he gets Sungyeol to scream. Even hit him if he wanted to.

"What were you going to say?" He suddenly asked audibly almost as a challenge, above the thunder noises that kept growing. Sungyeol, immediately, stopped on his track and with his back still turned, he retorted back dryly

"What do you mean?"

"You were going to say something weren't you?" Sungyeol, suddenly,  chuckle darkly at the words and shrugged as he finally faced Myungsoo, looking defiantly at the younger man.

"Don't lie. I know you wanted to say something. So go ahead. Spit it out."

"Spit it out? You seriously think that just by saying spit it out, i will talk? Why shoud i waste my saliva in trying to explain something to you?"

"Because i'll listen. Like you did for me in the past. I'll listen."

"Don't you dare" Sungyeol growled dryly under his breath, approaching Myungsoo dangerously. Myungsoo stood his ground though.

"Don't you dare talk about the past. You have no right to do so." The wind was getting more and more intense and the dark clouds were slowly forming above them. Though, that was the least of their problem. Sungyeol had now grabbed Myungsoo by the collar and as he glared at the younger man, he said angrily

"Do i have to remind you what happen in the past? What you did? No of course not." With that uttered, Sungyeol angrily pushed away Myungsoo and proceeded to walk away when Myungsoo, like the idiot he was, pressed further and further

"Why not? Clearly that incident in the past still means something to you. So go ahead, tell me what you really feel. Be mad, yell at me, curse me, do whatever you want. I'll listen. JUST STOP BEING SUCH A COWARD, HYUNG." The blood boiling and the heart beating so fast it was slightly painful, Sungyeol was quite shock of how he got to prevent his fist from meeting Myungsoo's face. With his fist right above the other boy's cheek, he could've hit him. But instead, Sungyeol breathed in deeply to calm himself, just as the rain began to pour.

"Why don't you hit me?" Myungsoo asked, only addidng more to Sungyeol's annoyance. Pushing him away without care, Sungyeol said darkly

"I won't hit someone that, clearly, won't fight back." Sungyeol then turned away once again, making Myungsoo feel far worst than if he was really hit by Sungyeol. Did he come on to him to harshly? Sungyeol took him by surprise when he said

"You know what, you're right. There are some things i would like to say. I would like to get mad, but what's the point? If i told you i hated every minute spending with you what would change? If i said that i hate having to work with you and even more, knowing that i need your help. That the simple thought of seeing you everyday makes me want to throw up. What would change if i told you that what i regret the most was allowing myself to befriend you. To let you into my life. Would it change anything if i told you all that? Would it make you feel better to know that i hate you just as much as i hate those bastards that killed my family? If my life could've been much simpler by saying that, i would. Cause if there is one thing i wish i could change. Was ever meeting you."

The rain was getting more and more intense as he talked. But neither man cared much about it. Both too immersed in the moment to really care.

Slowly, Sungyeol walked up, once again, near Myungsoo despite the blinding rain. Then as he brushed away the locks that was blocking Myungsoo's forehead almost veneration though Myungsoo was't blind enough to not see the distaste in his eyes, he watched as Sungyeol darkly said

"I'll give you a chance though. If you answer honestly this question, i'll reconsider and let you get away from me. Do you, somehow regret fooling me?" Myungsoo was seriously speechless. Was Sungyeol really wondering about that? Didn't he know already his emotions on the question? Without leaving the older man's eye contact, Myungsoo answered sincerely though with a blank expression

"I don't. I don't regret it." Because it was the best days of my llife getting to know you. Although my motives were initially bad, it was during those times that i've tried to hurt you that i fell in love with you. If i hadn't been pushed to hurt i would've never gotten to know you and never would i have been inspired to change and mature. So how can i regret it? How can i ever regret falling in love with you? In the end, you were the one that won the bet instead, what i regret is letting you go, Myungsoo mentally continued, wondering if Sungyeol will be able to see the truth in his eyes. If Sungyeol could read the words he couldn't have the courage to say. Sadly, it didn't seem like he did. Or at least that's what he thought.

Sungyeol, actually, understood him. He understood that Myungsoo hadn't regret the times they had spent together. Neither did he feel any remorse of his ill intention of approaching him. However what he didn't understand was the reason. What reason made it justifiable for him to not regret it? What was the point of him pondering upon it anyway. He had his answer, that was enough. With a sigh, Sungyeol said

"I see. So that's your answer. Well in that case, i have no reason to let you go." After all, this time, i'm the one with ill intention, Sungyeol thought before turning away, putting an end to their conversation. Both man fell once again in silent, with only the rain and the thunder as their background noise. Fortunately, it didn't take them long before they found a house. And because the station was still miles away, and Myungsoo was getting paler by the minute, Sungyeol decided to get the younger man dried first before he tries to get some help. Plus the night was going to soon fall. So, after a brief glance to his maknae, Sungyeol walked to the old house and after a few knocks at the door, he waited patiently for someone to open. After what seemed like an eternity, the door finally stumble open and a kid, probably not more than ten peaked his head and asked

"Yes?" Frowning, Sungyeol asked, litterally yelling because of the rain

"Are your parents here?" The kid looked at him distrust then asked

"And who are you?" Sungyeol fought back a shiver from the cold then said

"Uhm...We're kind of lost. Our car ran out of gas. And we got caught in the rain while trying to find a gas station." The kid looked at him confused for a minute then yelling back in the house, he said

"Mom, there's some strange man at the door."

"Mwo? Wait kiddo, we're not strange."

"Mom, he says he's not strange. Should i close the door then?"

" What? Wait a minute, we're..."

"I'm sorry, this old ahjussi must've scared you right?" Myungsoo butts in, ignoring the glare Sungyeol had sent his way from being called "old ahjussi". But, strangely whatever charm, the guy had, the kid was more willing to listen to him. Was it because of the smile he had? Well excuse him for not being in a good mood. And when was Myungsoo more friendly than him?

The kid smiled at some joke Myungsoo must've said then

"Wait a minute." After disappearing behind the door, Sungyeol asked in clear annoyance

"Old ahjussi? Do you want to die?"

"Oh come on, at least the kid seem more cooperative."

"I was doing just fine before you butted in."

"Sure you were.."

"You little..." Sungyeol couldn't finish his obcene comment when a lady suddenly appeared asking

"Yes? Oh my gosh, you guys must be cold. Please come inside." She didn't have to say it twice for Sungyeol or Myungsoo to do so. Finally in the warmth of the house, Sungyeol had somehow regained his more charming self as he said

"Thank you so much ma'am. I'm Sungyeol by the way. And this is..."

"Myungsoo at your service, ma'am"

"It's a pleasure, i'm Eunyung and this is my son, Min hyuk." Myungsoo smiled knowingly at the little boy and said

"Ah.. So you're Min hyuk ah. Nice to meet you."

After the brief greeting, Eunyung ssi turned to his son and said

"Min Hyuk. Go get more towels."

"Thank you so much ma'am.It's very kind of you to help us. I was starting to worry that we'll get strike by lightning." Myungsoo thanked sweetly the woman with a warm smile when the said lady handed him some dry clother. After Myungsoo's explaining to the woman their situation, the lady had had the kindness of letting them stay until the rain stopped. A request that instantly warmed Sungyeol's heart. After all, it took him one glance at the woman's house to guess that the woman was certainly already having a harsh time surviving. Yet, she allowed them to stay. How could he have forgotten the warmth of some people? Smiling sweetly at the woman, Sungyeol bowed deeply towards her while saying

"Thank you so much for your kindness."

"Don't mention it. As human being we should help each other. That's the way God created us, right."

"Here mom" Min Hyuk said, coming back with a layer of towel. Eunyung thanked her son, then giving them to Sungyeol and Myungsoo, she said

"I'll warm you something to eat. You can change in Min Hyuk's room. Those are my husband's clothes, i'm not sure it'll fit you though. Min Hyuk can you show them the way?"

"Yes mom." And without even giving them the chance to say anything, the kid pulled them towards his room with an amount of energy that stunned a bit Sungyeol. How could this kid be this strong?Like the other room they left, Min Hyuk's room was rather small but quite warm and cozy. It wasn't overly personalize just enough to be recognised as a child's room. What caught Sungyeol's attention though was a frame near the bed. A frame that held the picture of a little boy being carried on a man's shoulder. Surely, Min hyuk's dad.

"It's a pretty picture." Myungsoo was the one who talked disturbing the silence.

"It's the only picture i have of my dad. He's in the army you know. And he's a sergent"

"Wah, you must be so proud." Myungsoo said happily as he ran his hand in Min hyuk's hair. An intimate touch, Sungyeol sort of found touching. He still hated Myungsoo's guts of course. That was a fact. But it reassured him a bit to know that Myungsoo was only an to him. And to other, he was capable of feeling genuine happiness.

"I'm also thinking of joining the army. Should i?"

"You don't seem very strong though."

"Ouch, that was painful. Much heavier than if i had grabbed a baseball ball without gear." giphy.gif

Myungsoo sarcastically said as he pretended catching a ball, adding more hilarity to the situation. Excluded to the laughter, Sungyeol changed into the warm clothes then returning to the dining room, where Eunyung was busy cooking, he asked

"Can i help you with anything?"

"No, no, you don't have to."

"Please. It's the least i can do for letting us stay." After a few seconds of hesitation, she sigh and said

"Ok. Can you put the table? It's folded behind the door." Submissively, Sungyeol did what he was told and fixed the table with the instruction of the housewife. Myungsoo and Min Hyuk only came a little later after Sungyeol had finished setting the table.

"I hope you like potato soup."

"Are you kidding, Eunyung ssi, i love it." Myungsoo said as he sat down across the host, looking rather famished. Smiling from the sincere comment, the lady served the guest and his son's food and in a less tense atmosphere they ate.

After dinner, Myungsoo helped Eun hyung put Min hyuk in bed while Sungyeol, who volunteered to take care of dish washing was left alone in the kitchen. He didn't hate it though. Being alone, allowed him to regain most of his thinking faculty and it cleared his mind to what he was suppose to do as soon as the rain would stop.

For now, he was going to be courteous and friendly as hell, for the sake of the family that was willing to help them. But after that, no more wasting time. He wasn't going to let Myungsoo use up his time anymore. When he was finally done doing the dishes, he returned in the small living room and now was going to fix the bed, Eunyung had brought out for them, when a bright light in Myungsoo's clothes attracted his attention. Finding ridiculous to go through his stuff nonetheless, he ignored it and focused instead in fixing the bed when the same light disturbed him once again.

He was normally the type that hated when someone evaded another's privacy but somehow, staring at the annoying light, irritated him far more than the thought of sharing a bed with Myungsoo. So after a minute of hesitation, he reached to the object, and let out humourlessly a chuckle at his discovery, he said

"So you're phone died out, huh?" Putting back the evidence of Myungsoo's lie back at his initial place, Sungyeol laid back down, ignoring along the way Myungsoo's body that was now lying next to him as he scolded himself mentally

"No more games, Sungyeol. You've wasted enough time."
