Chapter VIII.

The Fallen

Jeonghan is shivering.

He had kissed him.

And then he had pulled back with shock, gazing into Jun’s glazed eyes.

Shock and love and pure ing ecstasy.

Then he had retreated and slammed the door in Jun’s face.

And had stayed, shaking, collapsed against the door.

A sudden knock, vibrating through his body, pulls him out of his mind world.

“Yes?” he says, jerking the door open.

A tall, dark-haired boy stands there, face flushed from rushing.

“My name is Wonwoo, please come with me,” he declares, seizing Jeonghan’s wrist.

Jeonghan allows himself to be pulled away.

Maybe Wonwoo will take him to see Jun…

And maybe he can apologize for his rude behavior.

---

Seungcheol stares out the window at the long line of soldiers marching out.

He hears the door open behind him and knows that it is Wonwoo.

“Wonwoo, you may leave.”

“Yessir.”

The door snaps shut; Jeonghan stays silent.

Seungcheol sighs and turns around, placing his hands on the redwood desk.

“I suggest you brace yourself as well,” he says to Jeonghan, who is so confused.

A thundering reverberation rattles the furniture in the room.

Jeonghan throws himself against the wall next to the door.

“JUN! JUN! JUN!”

Jeonghan’s eyes light up with a dim hope as he struggles to see outside.

Seungcheol swallows another sigh and beckons the poor boy over.

Jeonghan fairly leaps over to press his nose against the windowpane.

He sees a roiling red mass of armor and flags, a flaming red sky, a swirling red portal.

And he sees Jun, decked in crimson, at the head of it all, running with a steely determination.

“NO!”

Jeonghan knows where the portal leads.

Jisoo had opened such a portal, but sky blue, many a time.

“There is nothing we can do,” Seungcheol’s quiet voice states from behind.

Jeonghan whirls around, pain evident in every expression he makes.

He doesn’t know what to say, because he has nothing to say.

Seungcheol guides him to a chair, where he collapses, mind whirling in shock.

“Seokmin, get him a glass of water.”

“Jeonghan, can you hear me?”

“Hansol, get me the phone.”

Jeonghan is so glad to escape into the darkness, away from the whirl of Seungcheol’s voice.

I was going to ask what happened to Jeonghan but I read your replies, I hope you don't mind.

I must say, at first I was iffy on your writing style. I was confused about a lot of things but I knew it would be explained in the next chapters. I also like how it sounded so poetic when read.

Everything is so clever so thank you for writing this! I don't like sad things so I wish I hadn't read the Epilogue. DON'T TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY THOUGH!!! The Epilogue was written just as beautiful and poetic, I just always hope for a happy ending. This story is amazing thank you for it.

Wow I'm surprised that there are no comments for such a (in my opinion) great story. The chapters aren't that long but the story itself make up for it! I've enjoyed your writing so far and I can't wait for the next update author-nim! ^~^
