Chapter XIV.
The FallenJun is beyond shocked, but the angels have seen worse.
“Jihoon and I were coming home from school when a piano fell on us,” Seungkwan shrugs.
“I was killed by a sudden tsunami,” Soonyoung chirps noncommittally.
Minghao simply smiles, because of course Jun knows how he died.
“I, uh…” Chan thinks for a while. “I think I got murdered?”
“Pure luck,” Jihoon laughs. “Wrong place at the wrong time.”
“All of us unfortunate souls make up the Board,” Soonyoung explains. “And that poor boy, what was his name, Mingyu? He’ll be joining us soon.”
“Tornado, they’ll say,” Minghao smiles. “Oh, those mortals.”
“Minghao,” Jun says quietly.
“Yes, brother?”
Did you ever tell him? Did he ever ask? Was he the same as he is now?
“He never truly loved Jisoo, did he?”
“No, nor was he ever content with Heaven.” Minghao pauses, recollecting. “I think he wanted more. More than just a normal, safe, boring afterlife. He longed for adventure, even though he knew he would likely not survive.”
“But then again, you can’t die again,” Jun says dryly.
“Right,” Minghao grins. “So he became interested in Hell.”
“And found me.”
“Correct.”
A silence.
“We knew he wasn’t happy here.”
Jun starts; he had forgotten about the other angels.
“Unanimously,” Soonyoung says softly. “We agreed to banish him.”
“Even if he couldn’t be with you,” Jihoon murmurs. “At least he would be happy.”
“But you did notice him,” Chan whispers. “And you, too, fell in love.”
Seungkwan looks at him, stepping aside to reveal a sky blue Portal.
“Go on, he’s waiting.”
Jun looks at the faces around him, soft and angelic.
He looks at Minghao, smiling at him.
He looks at the Portal, the spiraling colors.
“I guess Heaven isn’t half as bad as I thought,” he remarks lightly, to hide his regret.
The others seem to know, and they raise hands in farewell as Jun steps through the Portal.
