Must be Fate

The Summer Everything Changed

3rd June 2014, 2.09pm.

"Was it fate, or a mere coincidence?"

The café was full of either busy business men reading newspapers or cheesy couples on a mainstream coffee date. Hana smiled when she saw one of the couples share a frappé with each other. They had reminded her of Namjoon and herself back when they dated. The happy smiles spread across their faces only make her wish she had someone beside her right now. She truly admired couples, although she'd find herself jealous at times. It had been two days since she had broken up with Namjoon and she had already gotten over him. Oh, how proud of herself she was. "It was a stupid teenage love story," she remembered telling her best friend, Bang Minah. She was supposed to go out with Minah, but she had work to go to today.

She took another sip out of her coffee, as someone stood by her table. "Do you mind if I sit here?"

Hana nodded without looking up, still sipping out of her cup. She knew this was a very popular café, so at times, people would have to share tables. She almost dropped her cup when she had recognized the boy sitting across her. "Oh, it is you, pretty!" Hana couldn't help but smile at the sight of him. What was he doing here? Not like it really bothered her at all, though. "O-Oh, Taehyung, right?"

The boy pouted a little, looking quite disappointed, "You don't seem happy to see me at all." Hana chuckled, rolling her eyes, "Of course I'm happy to see you. You helped me the other day. I'm still so thankful for that."  Taehyung picked up his drink, extending his hand to Hana. "You told me you like drawing, right? So you must like art. I have some place to take you."

A little confused but excited, Hana took his hand, jumping out of her seat. His grip on her hand was firm yet gentleㅡ his hands were quite smooth for a man, especially. Hana followed to where Taehyung was taking her and gasped a little when she noticed that she was standing in front of the Art Museum. Taehyung laughed a little when he had seen her reaction. "Been here before?"

She shook her head, "Unfortunately not. I have always wanted to go, but I didn't want to go alone."  Taehyung grinned, squeezing her hand a little. "Well, today is your lucky day, pretty. Kim Taehyung has volunteered himself to be your tour guide of the day."

Hana couldn't help it. This boy was adorable. A smile was immediately plastered onto her face as he led her around the art museum, still holding a tight grip on her hand. They'd stop at every painting, and Taehyung would pretend to know the history of every painting and its artist. Throughout the whole time, Hana would find herself sometimes looking at him instead of the painting. Did she already like him? Of course not. Hana was not the type to fall for boys easily.

After a couple of hours, they finally explored the whole museum without even stopping for a rest. "Oh my god, I think my knees are about to snap!" he complained, rubbing his knees as they sat down together, facing the sunset, icecreams in one hand. Hana just laughed, taking a of her icecream, "Thanks for today. Again. I mean, for everything." Taehyung smiled, looking at her. "Anything for you, pretty. By the way, I really never asked for your name."

"My name is Hana. Park Hana."

He smiled, taking a bite on his cone. "A pretty name for a pretty girl." Hana couldn't help but blush a little. She continued to nibble on her icecream cone, avoiding conversation. Taehyung probably got the message, so the two of them just sat there for the remainder of the afternoon, looking out to the sunset. Before they parted once again, they exchanged numbers.

"Are you doing anything tomorrow?" he asked her, standing up from the bench. She nodded, disappointment immediately spreading all over his face. "I've got classes tomorrow. But I finish at 2."

Taehyung grinned, flashing her a smile before turning around to head his own way home, "I'll text you then, pretty!"

Hana smiled, turning the other direction, heading her own way home. She could not stop smiling to herself. Everyone walking past her probably thought she was crazy. She didn't really care, though. Her mind was really somewhere else. Her smile dropped once she reached the front of her house. Now it was just her, again. She unlocked the front door, entering the unwelcoming house. She should be used to it by now, but she still wished her parents were at home with her, welcoming her with the sweet aroma of a family.

Hana had learnt to adapt to her situation, so she cooks every meal alone, just for herself. Her best friend, Minah, would drop by every night to have dinner with her. At least a part of her everyday life would be spent with someone. Hana sat on the black, leather couch, legs dangling, as she waited for Minah to arrive. As soon as the doorbell rang, she jumped off the couch excitedly like a child on the morning of Christmas. "Minah!"

Minah laughed, playing along with her. "Why are you so excited to see me? We see each other every night." Minah noticed the unusal grin on her friend's face. "Yah, I thought you'd still be moping around for Namjoon. What, did you meet a new boy?"

Hana burst out into laughter when the image of Taehyung suddenly came into her mind. "No, no. Not like that. I was just extremely excited to see you today." Minah, however, was not convinced. "So, who's the lucky guy?" It was becoming an interrogation. "No one, Minah. No one, alright! Now, come on. I'm hungry." Hana slightly pouted as Minah headed into the kitchen. "You know, you seem to be too happy to be a girl experiencing heartbreak."

"Let's just say that Namjoon was actually very easy to get over."

"You found a new boy."

"No, I didn't."

"Seems like it." Minah was now smirking at Hana. "Now, tell me everything."

Hana sighed, "Okay listen. I don't love the boy, I just like him a lot. We just met three days ago, and he's just really sweet." Minah stopped chopping the onions, a smile forming on her face, "That's how a lot of crushes start off, love." Hana refused to admit she moved on from Namjoon quickly because of Taehyung. She didn't want to make people think she was the kind of girl to wake up to a different crush every morning. She did not reply to Minah, but instead changed the subject. "How is your family going, Minah?"

Minah groaned. Her family was quite the opposite of Hana's. She had two younger brothers and a baby sister living in the same house as her. Although Hana says she gets very jealous of Minah's family, Minah admits that big families like hers tend to fight way too often than normal. "Ugh, seriously. Mom wants me to take Minjae out tomorrow, but I've got work. When I rejected, she kicked me out of the house. What the heck?" As Minah continued to complain, Hana listened. Even if Minah's parents were not the nicest people, Minah was still lucky to have them around.

"Oh my god, Hana. I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you in that way. You know I didn't mean it, right?" Minah was suddenly apologizing, realizing that she shouldn't be complaining about her parents to a girl who barely sees her parents. Hana just smiled. "It's fine, really."

"Hana, if you ever feel alone, you know you can call me anytime."

"I know," Hana smiled, "Thank you, Minah."
