Family Bonds and Ferrets

I See You

April 21st

The evening moved along quite smoothly. Chanyeol laced his fingers through mine and after playfully nuzzling his nose into my hair, he pressed tender kisses against my temples, cheeks and lips. We whispered apologies to one another and came to the immediate conclusion that our argument had been incredibly ridiculous. From this came the decision to exclude ourselves from all scuffles between Jongdae and Jimin; aimless issues like theirs were not worth us much as our relationship.

His sister Yura smiled affectionately, seemingly pleased each time she snuck a glance at us. She was chopping away tirelessly, refusing help from either of us with the determination to provide a tasty meal. Though Chanyeol pestered her, offering a hand more than once, she shrugged him off and continued to cook on her own. I found out later in the night that this was because she wanted to impress me.

I assisted her in plating everything though and she grinned gratefully, delighted by how I arranged the food so prettily on each plate. It was a struggle not to delve straight into the dishes as I fiddled with them; the sweetly scented steam wafted up, quickly making my mouth water. My fingers worked swiftly so that I could eat as soon as possible.

Chanyeol smirked as the aroma seeped into his own nostrils and he thanked us both. We took a seat on either side of him as though forming a protective barrier and with a chuckle, dug into the delectable stir fry. Chanyeol waited until he was sure we had both started our meal before he plucked up his own chopsticks and began to cheerily slurp down the noodles. For a few minutes the room was filled with echoes of satisfied moans and the clanking of bowls, purely because we were all enjoying the amazing flavours sliding across our tongues too much to initiate conversation.

Yura spontaneously pounced from her seat and scurried towards a photograph across the room, a noodle dangling from . She tilted down and examined it, before snatching it up and returning to the table. Chanyeol continued to eat at a leisurely pace, unaware that anything was happening. However, I dropped my chopsticks to lean over him slightly, gazing at the photograph.

A chubby boy stared back at me, eyes a little hazy and his mouth slightly agape as though captured mid-speech. His black hair was very thin and splayed out across his forehead, strands parted just enough to reveal fuzzy eyebrows. The adorably curved ears on him were somewhat too large for his youthful, round face and the sleeves of his lined shirt a tad too long. In his stubby hands he held a squirming ferret, its body patched with a reddish brown and its face painted a pure white. I glanced up at Chanyeol and then back down at the photograph, suppressing a giggle.

Yura pinched Chanyeol’s arm, causing him to flinch and drop his chopsticks. ‘Why do you have photos lining the house if you can’t see them?’

‘Mum put them there’, he responded imperturbably.

‘Why aren’t I surprised? She sure knows how to pick the good ones.’

Chanyeol sighed, crossing his arms. ‘I don’t want to know, do I?’

‘Let’s just say that you weren’t the cutest kid on the block’, she replied, pushing her chair back to place the photograph in its place once more.

‘Don’t worry. I think you’re cute’, I whispered against his earlobe.

Yura rolled her eyes as her brother’s cheeks reddened and hastily collected the plates to wash so that she had an excuse to turn her back on us. Once again, Chanyeol begged her to let him help (they were his plates after all). She denied him access to the sink with a violent flick to his wrist and a sharp grunt. I couldn’t help but laugh at their sibling relationship. It was blatantly obvious who the superior was.

I enjoyed Yura’s company, because she was easy going and sweet. She seemed to have millions of lines worth of jokes stored within her head and an unbelievable amount of knowledge to spill from her lips. Listening to her stories of their childhood made me feel content and hearing about her splendid work environment undeniably caused a bit of envy to surge through me. Chanyeol seemed to admire her too, which made me like her even more. They were frisky with one another; she would punch his stomach and he would tug at her hair in retaliation, aware that she had styled it beautifully before visiting him. When she spoke, he would jokingly interrupt her and when he spoke, she would make faces because she knew he’d never be able to catch her out. I adored examining their interactions and indeed felt my heart sink when she finally announced that it was time for her to depart. Though I craved a little privacy with Chanyeol, I hoped I’d get to see a lot more of her.

I stood in the doorway waving optimistically at Yura as she strolled off into the distance. Chanyeol was planted behind me, arms wrapped snugly around my waist and chin propped atop my head, nose tickled by my wavy strands. Only when his sister’s figure disappeared did I shove him back inside, cuddling against his warm body. He chortled and wedged me up, twirling around spiritedly, speeding up as he heard my blissful squeals. Over and over he spun me around, feet gradually sliding into his bedroom where we spent the remainder of the night, snuggled together so cosily it was like we were the only two people in the world.

When I awoke the following morning, the bed was cold because there was one presence lacking. In Chanyeol’s place there was a bouquet of lilies and a full sticky note pad of messily written cheesy lines. I laughed over them for a good hour, tears prickling my eyes and my stomach aching, until I came upon the final message. Chanyeol had apparently received a call from Jongdae because he’d been struck with a whim of creativity and needed my boyfriend to play the guitar. I could imagine Chanyeol, eyes droopy and with a hood tugged over his face, lazily strumming at the strings without much enthusiasm. The poor guy hadn’t slept much last night, partially because he was getting a little touchy and otherwise because he was in too good of a mood to sleep on it. Though I was glad we’d had such a wonderful night, I hoped his lack of rest didn’t dampen Jongdae’s inspiration. Secretly, I wanted them to compose something original, something beautiful, just so I could listen to his voice. There was truly nothing quite like it.

I straight up love Chanyeol's pre-debut photos. They're by far some of the cutest things I've ever seen because his ears are so elven and ferrets are pretty. Park Chanyeol is precious, truly.
