Shot Through the Heart

No Quick Fix For Consciousness

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“My baby.”

“My snuggle muffin.”

“Oh god shut up.” Sungyeol cut into the disgusting conversation the two love birds were having.

Currently Sunggyu and Woohyun were on the couch in the frat hanging out with Sungyeol and Dongwoo. There were a few pledges there keeping busy as well. Seemed like Hoya had something up his sleeve, but it was none of their concern.

Spreading out the new couple took up the entire couch, Woohyun using Sunggyu like a giant pillow. Even Dongwoo who was a fan of all the skin ship in the world found them hard to look at. Neither of them could stay still. Dongwoo was the first to leave.

Sungyeol was into the TV but got fed up mumbling something about people being no fun and took off when his show ended. Sunggyu and Woohyun stayed. It was almost like they were new, experiencing everything for the first time and it was just too much for some people. Although Woohyun was creeped out by a pledge who took it upon himself to just sit in the corner and watch. Soon enough Woohyun was distracted by a hand sliding up the back of his shirt and nothing else mattered.

Both of them fell into a quiet laughter as they giggled and touched here and there hoping no one would notice how frisky they were getting in the middle of the living room. Sunggyu looked around after a while and it seemed like they were alone.

Flipping their positions Sunggyu had Woohyun pinned on his back, face nuzzled into his neck whispering sweet nothings as Woohyun squirmed and cracked up beneath him. They were touching, but nothing too rated, just fooling around.

“Oh what do we have here?” A voice came from above, soft and sickening sweet.

Sunggyu stopped what he was doing and Woohyun froze at the sound of the voice. He knew who it was. Sunggyu turned to see that girl from his party, what’s her name, Soojung. Why was she here, and why now? She was interrupting something very important. The red head snickered at the thought.

“I could ask you the same thing.” Woohyun sat up looking at Soojung with a scowl on his face. She was always so annoying, maybe seeing him like this she would get the hint.

“My brother had to come pick something up.” She looked off towards Hoya’s room.

“Sungjong?” Woohyun and Sunggyu shared a look.

“Yeah.” She turned back to face the two who were still clinging to each other on the couch. Sunggyu was holding Woohyun almost defensively and Woohyun seemed to be enjoying it, leaning into the touch. “Wow, Woohyun if I would have known things were like this then I would have given up a long time ago.” She hesitated for a moment. “Well maybe not.” She smirked.

God, Woohyun wished she would just go away.

“Maybe we should go upstairs.” Sunggyu stood up dusting himself off, something out of habit. He held out his hand for Woohyun who took it and stood up himself.

Throwing an arm around Woohyun’s shoulders, they began to walk away towards the stairs, pressed together, seemingly inseparable. Like this Woohyun felt nice, safe. A feeling he hadn’t felt in a long while. Soojung just watched the two walk away feeling annoyed and intrigued at the same time. Sunggyu wasn’t just touching Woohyun he was showing that he was his, Woohyun belonged to him now. Sure his arm was over his shoulder but it wasn’t necessary for him to keep his thumb pressed tightly against his neck like that.

Soojung laughed, they really were something else. You could feel their intense vibes from a mile away. She knew to stay away. Sunggyu didn’t have to say anything. Suddenly the door to Hoya’s room opened and Sungjong came out instantly spotting Woohyun and Sunggyu.

“Hey you’re both here, long time no see.” Sungjong greeted them with a smile.

“Did you get what you needed?” Soojung asked her brother.

“Yeah.” He was quick to answer before returning to his previous conversation with Sunggyu and Woohyun. “How have you guys been? All official now and stuff?” He laughed a little when Woohyun’s face turned red.

Sunggyu noticed that Sungjong didn’t actually have anything in his hands even though he was supposedly picking something up, but that was not his business. He decided to head up stairs first while Woohyun was still talking to Sungjong. Before he could step onto the landing there was a firm hand on his arm. It was that guy, Hoya.

“I don’t like you being here.” Hoya’s expression was threatening. Sunggyu quickly pulled his arm away.

“What?” Sunggyu was confused, maybe this guy just didn’t like the fact that he was with Woohyun.

“I don’t know if you think it’s okay now because it was in the past, but doesn’t work like that.” Hoya crossed his arms glaring at Sunggyu.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. Woohyun and I are-“

“This has nothing to do with Woohyun.” Hoya scoffed. “You really don’t remember do you. Of course not why would you.” He laughed sarcastically staring up at the ceiling afraid he might burst at any moment but kept it under control. “Just watch your back, Kim.”

Hoya walked away leaving Sunggyu with his thoughts. He was completely confused. He really had no clue what that guy could be talking about. He probably had him confused with someone else, or maybe this was one of those scare the boyfriend tactics kind of thing. Like ‘hurt Woohyun and you die’. Sunggyu shivered at the thought and continued up the stairs.

Soojung left with her brother and Hoya retreated back into his room. Noticing that his red headed boyfriend was nowhere in sight Woohyun decided to go find him.

Opening the door to his room Woohyun found Sunggyu lying on his bed. He was playing a game on his phone or something that was keeping his attention, he didn’t even turn his head to see Woohyun walk in. Woohyun closed the door behind him and took this opportunity to return to his former position.

He climbed over Sunggyu hugging himself to that perfect lithe body, laying his head on his chest. He closed his eyes and listened to Sunggyu’s beating heart. It was soothing and depending on where Woohyun put his hands it would speed up or slow down. He liked this game.

Sunggyu put his phone down to focus on the warm body that was curling into him, prodding fingers at the hem of his shirt.

“Hey, what are you doing down there?” Sunggyu asked but didn’t really move. Instead he slipped his fingers into Woohyun’s hair, gently massaging his scalp.

“Nothing.” Woohyun said in a singsong voice continuing his ministrations, making his way higher, fingers sliding over Sunggyu’s ribs.

Sunggyu stayed still thinking about how lucky he was to have someone like Woohyun in his life. How they met and how time just seemed to fly by. Everything about this was still so unbelievable but the skin under his fingertips was real and so were the light kisses being pressed to his abdomen.

Woohyun slid his lips along the trial of light hairs that led to the one place he really wanted to be, but being Woohyun he had to tease first. Kissing back up towards Sunggyu’s firm chest, he tucked his head completely under his shirt.

Sunggyu laughed trying to push Woohyun away.

“Woohyun. Come out of there.” He poked the kid in the head a few times but it only seemed to spur him on even more. Sunggyu’s words becoming more of a moan as Woohyun at a .

“Why? From what I can hear you’re liking it.” Woohyun smirked against the warm skin his lips were pressed to. Suddenly the air around him was much cooler. Sunggyu had pulled his shirt up.

“Come here. Give me those lips.” The red head reached down, fingers sliding through Woohyun’s hair to gently coerce him upwards.

A smile flashed across his face as Woohyun looked up at him with a playful grin. Woohyun let himself be led, climbing over Sunggyu, kissing here and there before landing on that perfect pout. Sunggyu that thick bottom lip into his mouth biting down but not too hard. The smile still plastered on Woohyun’s face. Sliding his arms under Sunggyu tilting his head to the side he took control of the kiss moving away and down the red heads neck, nipping and . He really wanted to leave a hickey, so he did. long and hard, he pulled away with a pop and a loud groan came out of his boyfriend. He watched as a red mark started to bloom on that pale skin.

“God.” Sunggyu groaned again.

“It was good?” Woohyun smiled tracing his finger around his new masterpiece.

“No. It hurt.” Sunggyu poked Woohyun in the forehead emphasizing each syllable as he spoke. “Who the hell gives hickeys like that?”

“Well, I have never given one before… how the hell am I supposed to know.” Woohyun rolled over onto his side as he let out a deep sigh.

Sunggyu turned over to face him, kissing over the brunets arm up to his shoulder before placing a quick peck on his cheek.

“I’m not complaining.” Sunggyu began to kiss over Woohyun’s entire face and the kid couldn’t help but break out into laughter. “You know your smile is the best thing I have ever seen.” And at those words Woohyun became quiet and stiff only loosening up a little when Sunggyu’s hands snuck into his sleeves.

Sunggyu was still learning the ways of Woohyun. Wanting to fix him when he was sad and make him laugh even more when he was happy. Getting the kid to relax was a little easier these days, all it took was a gentle touch to bring him back into reality.

With Sunggyu’s hands gliding over his skin Woohyun felt that small spark start to tingle again and with a bit of force he managed to push Sunggyu onto his back, throwing a leg over him to straddle his lap.

“Then let me do it again.” Woohyun cooed and before Sunggyu could protest lips and teeth were at his neck.

“ Woohyun.” Sunggyu hissed but his body had the opposite reaction, instead arching into the man on top of him. Sunggyu let his eyes fall closed as Woohyun continued.

To keep the situation under control Woohyun ground his hips down pressing Sunggyu flat to the mattress with nowhere to go. Hands finding hands, slowly locking them over Sunggyu’s head.

“There is no escape. Do you think your neck will turn purple?” Woohyun chuckled quietly before over the newest mark he had created. Sunggyu hated to admit it, but he liked it.

After playing around in Woohyun’s room for a while Sunggyu was thoroughly claimed and the brunet was satisfied. With a proud smirk clinging to his lips he kissed the back of the red heads hand before hugging it to his chest.

“Let’s do something. We should go out. It’s been forever.” Sunggyu broke the silence.

“Hmmm… like go to the movies or out to eat?” Woohyun questioned mindlessly as he stared blankly at the ceiling.

“No, out out….. and I am pretty sure we missed dinner. It’s after 9 o’ clock.” Sunggyu couldn’t help but laugh. This happened every single time. They had no concept of what time even was. When they were together, literally nothing else mattered. He continued to shake with laughter pulling Woohyun to his chest.

“Yah. What is so funny?” Woohyun couldn’t help but be spurred on by that contagious laughter, weakly pushing Sunggyu away, a hand on his face and the other on his chest. Sunggyu his palm. “YAH!”

A tickle fight ensued. Before they knew it laughter filled the air, they were sweaty and their clothes were long gone. A shower seemed to be a good idea. Taking their time they cleaned each other up trying hard to avoid starting all over again otherwise they would never make it out of the house.

Leaving for the night they returned to Sunggyu’s apartment where he changed into his usual skinny jeans and leather jacket. Looking over at Woohyun who was sitting on the couch looking all cozy while playing with the cat Sunggyu couldn’t help but wonder what Woohyun would look like in some clothes that were a little more form fitting, to show off his physique.

Once he was finished getting ready, hair done and eyeliner on point he tossed a pair of ripped jeans in Woohyun’s direction.

“Wear these.” He smirked continuing to dig through the pile of clothes next to his bed.

“What? You have to be kidding. I will freeze.” Woohyun held the pants up examining them. There was less fabric then if he wore a pair of shorts. Could these be the jeans Sunggyu wore the first time they met? A slight blush rose to his cheeks at the thought.

“Just put them on and this too.” Sunggyu found a lovely cream colored sweater handing that to Woohyun as well.

“Fine.” Woohyun let out a defiant huff undressing right where he was standing kicking his pants aside as he stepped into the jeans, hopping on one foot to get them all the way up. “How the hell do you like wearing this stuff all the time?”

“God, you are so cute.” Watching Woohyun struggle may have been the highlight of Sunggyu’s day. “Shirt too.”

Woohyun finally managed to zip his pants up, barley able to get a finger in the waist of his jeans. Unraveling the scarf around his neck, he removed the layers of clothes he was bundled in tossing them aside as he slipped the cream sweater on over his head. It hung off of his shoulder, collar bones completely exposed. He tried to pull it up but the material wasn’t cut that way. He finally gave up crossing his arms over his body turning to Sunggyu with a shrug.

“I look dumb.” He complained letting his head fall, running a hand through his hair.

How he stood there like that, neck fully exposed, the shape of his legs… Sunggyu really didn’t think they would make it out the door.

“You look good.” Sunggyu was hardly able speak, a hand over his mouth and a glint in his eye as he cocked a brow. He looked over Woohyun from head to toe. He decided that he chose well, the clothing falling perfectly over Woohyun’s toned body, he made it look effortless.

“I’m actually surprised I fit in your clothes, being that I’m like three inches shorter then you.” Woohyun looked at the sweater, hair falling in his eyes as he tried to pull the fabric away from his body. It clung to his chest and the material was thin. He felt exposed, cringing when he noticed his s were hard from the cold. He crossed his arms up higher on his chest. “Are we going or what?”

“Come here.”

“No.” Woohyun turned away, his lips pulling into a thin line as he tried to hide a smile.

“Nam Woohyun.” Sunggyu sighed a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.

“No. Nope.”

“I want to kiss you.” Sunggyu couldn’t help but chuckle at Woohyun’s attempt at playing hard to get.

“You aren’t allowed.” Woohyun smiled bending to pick the cat up who had been nudging at his legs. “I only like kitty kisses.” He snuggled the cat to his chest hiding his face behind her soft fur.

“You’re so annoying.” Sunggyu laughed walking into the kitchen to grab his jacket, shaking his head.

“So are you.” Woohyun snickered setting the cat down, before putting on his coat slipping on his shoes joining Sunggyu in the kitchen. “Let’s go!” he bounced a bit, bright eyed.

“Where?” Sunggyu pulled out a chair to sit and lace up his boots.

“How about the place we first met?” Woohyun said the words quietly, but they still managed to affect the red head who stopped mid tie to look up at him.

“Okay…” Sunggyu didn’t know why he felt hesitant, but there was something nagging in the back of his mind.

The room went silent, both of them completely still, only the hum of the refrigerator could be heard. They only snapped out of their momentary lull when there was crunching coming from the cat, who was eating, both of them turning to look before returning their gaze to each other.

“Okay.” Woohyun breathed out and Sunggyu stood grabbing his keys from the counter, pushing Woohyun out the door.

Arriving at the bar, Sunggyu paid the taxi driver turning around to link arms with Woohyun pressing his face into the kids shoulder avoiding the cold. Woohyun smiled and led them into the bar. It was warm and the dim amber light was so familiar, he wanted to bathe in it. Taking a deep breath inhaling the smell of damp oak casks and sticky sweetness of spilled liquor, Woohyun felt at home. Moving on autopilot he headed straight for the back of the pub spying his regular seat a smile formed on his face. A waitress nodded in his direction and he nodded back. Before he could even finish taking his jacket off she would return with his favorite drink. Or that was how it was supposed to go. Instead, Sunggyu spun them around and made their way through the crowd towards the bar.

“This spot is good right?” Sunggyu smiled brightly at Woohyun who was currently trying to tug his jacket out from between two people who were crowding him.

“Uh, sure.” He sighed resting his elbow on the bar looking longingly over at his table and then to the empty stage.

“Hey… You okay?” Sunggyu furrowed his brows in concern, raising his voice enough to be heard over the music. Tonight the place was packed.

“I’m just not used to coming here on weekends.” Woohyun returned his gaze to Sunggyu’s looking directly in his eyes smiling brighter than ever.

Sunggyu pressed a reassuring hand to the kids back just in case and offered to take his jacket, to which Woohyun was hesitant because of his clothes, but it was hot and he was sweating so, he handed it over. Leaving momentarily Sunggyu hung their jackets on some pegs in the far corner of the wall being safely guarded by some big dude dressed in black. He assumed it must be the bouncer.

Returning to the bar there was already a drink waiting for him.

“A Manhattan… you remembered.” Sunggyu smiled raising his drink to clink with Woohyun’s in a toast.

“Actually, no I just assumed because you’re so bitter.” Woohyun laughed raising his glass along with Sunggyu. “Here’s to idiots who can’t keep their hands to themselves.”

Sunggyu rolled his eyes at Woohyun’s comment and they both broke out into laughter. Sitting under the amber glow the night went on filled with drinks and talking and hands. Turned to face only each other blocking out the rest of the people in the crowded area, knees touching and hands touching knees. Smiles and slurred words became more frequent the later it got and the more shots of tequila that Sunggyu just couldn’t stop himself from ordering.

“Two more, kind sir!” Sunggyu waved a finger in the air to get the bartenders attention, slightly lopsided in his seat.

“Ya know I really, really like vodka…” Woohyun trailed off finishing his drink tipping his head all the way back making sure to get the very last drop.

“But, come on who does straight shots of vodka?” Sunggyu leaned on the bar, which somehow seemed to be much further away, resting his head in his hand.

“People who don’t like to taste things.” Woohyun scrunched up his nose when the bartender placed two more shots in front of them.

“Vodka is for .” Sunggyu swung himself around to pick up a shot handing one to Woohyun. He placed a piece of lime in his mouth mumbling over it as he continued. “But with tequila you get your essential nutrients… fruit.” He chuckled.

Shaking his head Woohyun the back of his hand to sprinkle a little salt. Feeling brave he did the same to Sunggyu taking his hand a strip up the side his thumb into his mouth pulling away with a pop.

“Mhmm essential nutrients.” His eyes felt heavy. “On three.” Woohyun looked at Sunggyu who seemed to be enjoying himself too much.

Counting down to three they took their shot. up the salt as they kept their eyes on each other, swallowing down the tequila. Woohyun was feeling brave again taking the lime from Sunggyu’s lips into his own mouth to cut the flavor, but he may have lingered a little longer then he should have. Sunggyu’s eyes fell closed.

“We should really go out more often.” Sunggyu mumbled still in a daze from the tequila kiss Woohyun had just planted on him.

Suddenly the loud trill of a microphone rang through the air. It was almost sobering. Woohyun smiled.

“Sung, that could be you.” He poked Sunggyu in the chest.

“Did you just?” Sunggyu was confused for a moment when he didn’t hear his full name. “Yeah! That should be me!” He stood puffing out his chest looking like he was ready to fight the entire band that was about to step on stage.

“Yah… calm down.” Woohyun snickered pulling Sunggyu to him by his shirt.

Sunggyu wanted nothing more then to kiss him in that moment, but then the room full of people suddenly flooded into his peripherals and the moment was lost.

“I have to pee.” Sunggyu said the words as he got up already headed for the bathroom.

“Wait, why?” Woohyun pouted watching Sunggyu walk away through the crowd.

He turned back to the bar resting on his elbows, stirring the melting ice left in his glass with his straw.

“Hey. Can I get you a drink?”

Woohyun looked up to see a slender figure with long hair leaning against the bar next to him.

“You’re the…” He trailed off as he turned his gaze back to the empty stage. “Weren’t you just up there a minute ago?” Woohyun questioned raising an eyebrow.

“Were you that involved in your melting ice to not notice…? We played three songs already.” The man chuckled waving a hand to call over the bartender. “So what’s your poison?”

Woohyun couldn’t help but laugh at himself. How did he end up in this situation again? Singer joining him for a drink, being accused of not paying attention, though this time he really didn’t pay any attention at all.

“Vodka redbull.” He looked over the man curiously. Long brown hair, leather jacket, but it didn’t fit him properly. He gave off more of a hippy vibe then lead singer of a rock band. Sunggyu immediately came to mind, a smirk formed on his lips.

“Good choice.”

Sunggyu was outside in the cold. Some people had recognized him and enticed him out into the cold for a cigarette. Taking up their offer, the burning in his lungs spread to his fingertips and it didn’t feel like ice crystals in his chest anymore. The nicotine was a sure cure for that. It also helped that he was far past inebriated. The cold wasn’t so cold.

Making his way back inside he spotted Woohyun right where he had left him, but the smile on his lips soon faded when he saw another man hovering over him. They were too close. Pushing through the people in the pub, his blood began to boil the closer he got.

“Who the hell are you?” Sunggyu shoved the guy in his shoulder roughly causing him to stumble back into a group of people.

“Hey man, what’s your problem?” Catching his balance he took a step toward Sunggyu not willing to back down.

“Sunggyu calm down. He’s just the lead singer of the band that was on.” Thoughtlessly Woohyun rest his hand on the guys chest quickly pulling it away seeing Sunggyu’s reaction.

“Just back the off. Woohyun lets go.” Sunggyu grabbed him by the arm tugging him away, but Woohyun stayed still.

“Sunggyu,” Woohyun yanked his arm away harshly. “Stop.” Laughing nervously trying to defuse the situation.

“Yeah buddy. Don’t put your hands on him like that.” The tall lead singer stepped in between them.

That was it. Sunggyu was going to kill him.

“I don’t know who the you think you are, but you need to walk away right now.” Sunggyu’s voice came out in a low growl as he clenched his teeth, every fiber in his being ready lunge at the man in front of him.

“What are you going to do about it…” The guy scoffed.

“This.” The red head hissed reaching up to grip the man by his throat shoving him back. “Woohyun we are leaving now!”

Woohyun sat still, in shock. Suddenly the guy was up on his feet tugging Sunggyu back by his shirt. Pulling away quickly he turned around and laughed when he saw that the other man was holding his fists up.

“What is this? Are you kidding? Have you even been in a fight before?”

“Okay come on Sunggyu. Don’t do this.” He clung to Sunggyu’s arm in hopes of stopping him.

“He started it!”

“There is a crowd.” Woohyun whispered with a frown.

Looking around Woohyun was right and he really didn’t need to be starting anything in a place like this. Muttering a under his breath he wrapped an arm around Woohyun’s waist and lead him to the door, trying his best to ignore the taunting from the man in the background.

“Sorry.” Sunggyu shoved his hands in his pockets as they stood in the cold waiting for the cab to pick them up.

“Didn’t think you were the jealous rage type.” Woohyun hugged himself staring out into the middle of the road, there was ice, it was freezing.

Without warning there was a loud thud and Sunggyu was on the ground. Woohyun’s eyes wide in shock seeing the lead singer must have er punched him.

“.” Sunggyu got up in his hands and knees shaking out his wrist as he stood. So, you really want to die.”

“Please. I don’t like this.” Woohyun closed his eyes holding on to the back of Sunggyu’s jacket, but the first punch was already thrown.

In an instant the tall man was on the ground with Sunggyu on top of him connecting fist to face over and over again. People began to pour out of the bar circling around them. Sunggyu was not about to stop any time soon and Woohyun felt sick to his stomach he needed it to stop. Trying to get in between and pull them apart he got an elbow to the face, knocking him back on his . He watched drops of blood land on the snow covered pavement, his lip was bleeding.

“You hit me.” Woohyun spoke incoherently at first too far gone to realize what had just happened. Pulling Sunggyu by the collar of his jacket with all his strength he managed to get him off the other man. “Sunggyu,” His voice was shaky and barely above a whisper as he kept his eyes on the ground. “You hit me.”

Staying on the ground flat on his back he watched his breath rise up toward the night sky. Wincing slightly as he tried to get the stars to come onto view. When he finally focused Woohyun came into view, bloody lip and all. He sat up slowly running a mangled hand through his hair.

“Woohyun…” Sunggyu looked up confused still unable to process the situation. “How?” He reached out a hand wanting to touch the brunet and Woohyun leaned down and obliged letting him rest his hand on his face.

“Let’s just go home, okay?” There were tears in Woohyun’s eyes. He snuck an arm around Sunggyu helping him up and into the cab.

The ride home was quiet. Woohyun watched all the lights of the city fly by outside the window occasionally reaching up to touch his swelling lip, the metallic taste of blood still fresh on his tongue. Sunggyu was fast asleep, head resting on his chest, breathing shallow, as if he had no cares in the world, but that wasn’t what Woohyun saw. He saw the rage. Sunggyu could have killed that man if there was no one to stop him and that scared him more then anything.

Waking up in the morning Sunggyu was alone. His bed was cold and empty. He barely had any recollection of the night before but stiff knuckles and a bloody pillow was enough to jog his memory. Woohyun. He didn’t stay. But there was something else, something was screaming in the back of his mind. Then it struck him. He had hit Woohyun, but that couldn’t be true. He would never do something like that.

Shuffling through his clothes on the floor he desperately searched for his phone. Though it was still only six in the morning he needed to talk to Woohyun and make sure he was okay. The phone rang but was sent to voice mail. He tried twenty three more times.

Woohyun never answered.
