Zero Plus Five Equals Youngmin

Absolute Boyfriend

                Meanwhile, Minwoo was walking aimlessly around the school. His cute face hadn’t had his usual happy go lucky glow since the other day. He was a pretty fast runner; maybe he could go check on Seh Lyung for a few minutes before the lunch period was over. But Seh Lyung hated him, didn’t she?

                He sighed, finally sitting himself down on a shady patch of grass. Seh Lyung was sick. The horrible picture of her coughing in bed kept replaying in his head. Knowing he couldn’t do anything about it was the worst part.  He bobbed his head up from resting on his knees when he noticed a figure next to him, as he felt the crunch of grass beside him. “Hi hoobae!” it was a girl, with her long brown hair tied in a neat high ponytail.

                “Hi sunbaenim.” He replied, bowing his head and trying to fall back in his little world.

                “I’m Seh Lyungie’s chingu.” She announced, extending her hand.

                Tentative, Minwoo shook her hand but only because he heard the name ‘Seh Lyung’ come out of her lips. He couldn’t avoid her now; a friend of Seh Lyung’s was a friend of his. He plastered a perfect smile on his face. “I’m her chingu too, sunbaenim.”

                “Call me noona!” she chided. “IU-noona.”

                “IU-noona.” Minwoo recited, and he couldn’t help but to giggle. A childish noona.

                “Now tell noona what’s wrong.” She urged, exaggeratingly leaning forward.

                “I—” Minwoo didn’t know if it was okay to tell her about Seh Lyung. If they were really good friends, they would tell each other soon enough. “My stomach just hurts.” He lied, clutching his tummy for a good touch.

                To his luck, she bought it easily. “Chincha? You should lie down then! Would you like to be taken to the infirmary?”

                Minwoo shook his head, a little surprised at Ji Eun’s actions. Seh Lyung never asked about how he was doing.

                “Then at least lean your head on my shoulder.” Ji Eun gently placed her fingers on his neck, and Minwoo easily reacted to the soft touch, his cheek pressing into Ji Eun’s shoulder blade. He detected the pleasant odor of flowers on her, and it made everything just melt. Strangely, it felt nice. Seh Lyung never offered her shoulder to him. Seh Lyung never acted so caring. Not like Ji Eun.

```
                Kwangmin pressed a warm hand on Seh Lyung’s forehead. She had immediately returned to school the day after, and only because she begged on her knees the night before. “You still look a bit pale.” Kwangmin said, worry in his voice. “And your face got smaller.”
                “It’s okay, I like whiter skin and it’s good for me to lose a little weight.” She laughed.
                Kwangmin made a face. “Whatever. But if you feel sick tell Donghyun-hyung, okay?”
                Seh Lyung reached over on her tiptoes and lightly pinched his cheek. Her other hand was clutching a pack of tissues, hiding behind her back. “Thanks for caring, but no need to worry.” She said, returning to her seat.
                Youngmin leaned on his elbows, inching towards Minwoo. “Where were you yesterday?” he asked. “You were gone the entire lunch break.”
                Minwoo shrugged. “I had an upset stomach.”
                The blond boy scoffed. “Figures, you didn’t eat all day.”
                “Do you believe in love at first sight?” Minwoo asked out of the blue.
                Youngmin almost fell out of his chair. “Are you serious?” he spluttered, and Minwoo nodded meekly.
                “I’m not sure of myself. She’s kind of out of my league.”
                “Who is she?” his friend prodded, getting more curious.
                “She’s pretty, she’s nice, and she’s a good listener.” Minwoo smiled faintly at the mere thought. “She’s IU-noona.”
                Minwoo was quick to cover his friend’s mouth, muffling the almost-screams. “IU-noona!” Youngmin hissed, his words muffled slightly as he tried to pry Minwoo’s hand off his mouth. “No way!”
                The blushing boy waved his hands in the air. He bit his lip, instantly regretting his choice to tell his friend. “I would never lie, I swear!” Maybe he should’ve told Kwangmin first, considering Youngmin’s massive crush on her. Minwoo gave up and turned his attention to Kwangmin, slapping down the book he was reading.
                The brunette raised an eyebrow, bookmarking his page. “Can I help you?”
                “You’ve probably overheard your naturally loud hyung.” Minwoo said quickly, trying to get straight to the point. “I like IU-noona.”
                “You were pretty stuck on Seh Lyung a few days ago.” Kwangmin replied, a bit peeved on how easy Minwoo could be.
                “But it’s different. It was almost like I was forced to be with her.” Minwoo mumbled, puffing out his cheeks.
                “Seh Lyung doesn’t seem like that kind of person.” Kwangmin was starting to get defensive on Minwoo’s sudden comments.
                Minwoo groaned, leaning his head on his desk. “You have no idea.”
                Kwangmin finally gave up and said he had to put his book away. Perfect timing, when he saw Seh Lyung’s petite figure by the lockers, stuffing away her books. Kwangmin casually walked over, opening the lockers next to hers. “Hey.” His voice sounded distant.
                “What’s up, Kwangmin?” she asked, at the same time contemplating whether to bring her history book to study or not.
                “How do you feel about Minwoo?”
                Shocked by the sudden question, Seh Lyung dropped her history book, only to have Kwangmin quickly extend his arm out to catch it for her. “Fast reflexes.” She said, trying to laugh. “But why ask such a question?”
                “I don’t know, Minwoo’s been acting strange lately.” Kwangmin held onto Seh Lyung’s book, trying to act mildly distracted as he flipped through the pages.
                Seh Lyung kept herself silent until the last possible second, when she asked for her book back. It wasn’t the time to mention that Minwoo and she were still tense. “See you later…” she managed to say, and returned to the front of the room.
                Youngmin flicked his brother’s shoulder. “Yah, why were you holding Seh Lyung’s stuff?”
                “It was heavy.”
                His brother continued to annoy him. “Or you’re just making excuses to talk to her.”
                Minwoo popped his head in the conversation. “Kwangminnie… do you like Seh Lyung?”
                The question definitely got him off guard. Kwangmin bit his lip. He couldn’t admit that he liked Seh Lyung, because in some aspect, Minwoo probably still liked her. As much as Minwoo said he liked Ji Eun now, he knew Seh Lyung wasn’t gone forever. “No.” he lied, turning back to his work. He couldn’t hurt his best friend, he just couldn’t.
                Donghyun had a stack of papers in his arm, standing at the front of the room. “I’m giving you back the test we took last week on tangents.” One by one he passed them out through the desks.
                Being told by people that he had good vision, he couldn’t help but notice that perfect score on Seh Lyung’s paper. Kwangmin smiled to himself as he watched her tiny figure bounce in her seat.
                “No way!” Youngmin was so loud that he gained the attention of the entire class. “Fail!?”
                And it was true. Every question was marked in red, almost like a bloody death sentence for Jo Youngmin. And on the very bottom of the sheet it said, “See me after class.”
                “No worries, hyung. It’s only one bad grade.” Kwangmin reassured, patting Youngmin’s shoulder. Though, he still found it pretty strange that of all people, Jo Youngmin would fail. He was always at the top of the class.
                “That’s the problem!” the blond boy pouted, spinning the paper around in frantic confusion. “I never fail! I’m not supposed to fail!” As much as Youngmin loved Donghyun, he dreaded to see him later.
```

                “Lee Jeongmin!” he gave a smug look towards his teacher, as he handed in his essay after only ten minutes after it was assigned. He was always the first to hand in his papers, Hyunseong would soon be second. Hyunseong would always try to pace himself so he wouldn’t look too smart. But Jeongmin loved the attention.

                Seh Lyung liked smart guys, right? It was their own little contest, to try to beat each other in their class, to be number one ranked for Seh Lyung. But it’s a secret.

                Hyunseong quietly got up and placed his papers on the desk.

                “You two always think you’ll get the highest marks.” She sighed, herself having a distaste of overachieving students. “Take this back and correct it.”

                “It’s perfect.” Jeongmin reasoned.

                Hyunseong meekly cut in. “Yeah, I proofread it so many times that it’s memorized.”

                Their teacher stuck her nose in the air, trying not to snort as she dismissed them.

                From the back of the room, Lee Se Young whispered to Ji Eun. “Wah~ Jeongminnie-oppa’s so cool.”

                Ji Eun rolled her eyes, finishing up her work. “He thinks he’s so smart. It’s a little arrogant, no matter how sweet he may be towards Seh Lyung.” She mumbled.

                “Seh Lyung?” Se Young repeated, as if the name was foreign. “Why bring her up?”

                “Don’t you know? It’s pretty obvious he likes Kim Seh Lyung.”

                “Oh.” Her eyebrows knitted together as she sighed, leaning her head on her hand. “Well, at least Hyunseong-oppa’s—”

                “Hyunseong likes Seh Lyung too.” Ji Eun clarified. “And stop calling them oppa, it’s weird.”

                Another dramatic sigh escaped Se Young’s lips, as her eyes glazed over her paper, only two lines written down. She looked to the opposite side of the room, where Hyunseong and Jeongmin were talking silently, and their lips talking unusually fast. Her eyes darted from her unfinished paper to the two boys. They were worth it. With a confident stride, she walked to the front of the room and handed in her obviously failed paper. A few hours later she was called down to be tutored by the two smartest boys in the class.

                Lee Jeongmin and Shim Hyunseong.

```
                “Hyunggg~” now that Donghyun and Youngmin were alone in the classroom, Youngmin had no shame to do aegyo and act like a golden puppy. It was after school, and Youngmin had returned to the empty classroom after school to discuss his test. “I couldn’t have failed!”
                “You didn’t.”
                “I swear that I got at least a perfect—what did you just say?” Youngmin’s flawless smile appeared as he jumped around. “But wait—why did you fail me then?”
                “I just needed an excuse.”
                “For what?”
                Donghyun’s stare was rock-solid as he bore straight into Youngmin’s eyes. “Please don’t interfere with Minwoo’s relationship with Seh Lyung.” He said simply.
                “What?” the atmosphere just gotten ten times colder.
                “And that goes for your brother, too.”
                “What are you to tell us how to live our love lives?” Youngmin retorted icily, his hands balling into fists. The sudden transition in attitude caused Donghyun to back up.
                “The correct term is who, Youngmin. And I have my reasons.” Donghyun slipped off his glasses, placing them gently on his desk.
                “NO!” and that sudden outburst made Youngmin self-crumble all together. But Donghyun didn’t look the least bit surprised. “It’s what you are! You may have fooled Kwangmin, but you haven’t fooled me! You live with Seh Lyung, you’re not a real teacher.” Donghyun didn’t bother to interrupt him as he continued his rant. Everything he was saying was true. “Don’t think you can win because you’re…” Youngmin couldn’t bring himself to say the correct term, as he lifted his blazer sleeve to wipe his face. “See! We have tears, we have natural feelings! Will Minwoo, Hyunseong, Jeongmin, or you be able to show her what real love is? In a few years you’ll be scrap metal, while me and Kwangmin will be able to go old with her!”
                “Don’t think you can fool me either,” Donghyun whispered. “05.”
OMFGOMFGOMFG. You guys can kill me now. I know this chapter is s0o0o0o0 rushed and you all want to cry and unsubscribe.
Well, here's something to make you less hostile. To the winner of my little contest kimhyunwoos_ who got the answer right! I present to you a one-shot with your bias. I think it's Minwoo, I hope it's Minwoo...
BUT FAIR WARNING. Seh Lyung is a rather abusive character in this one...
Before reading, please note that this mini-story is completely irrelevant  to the current fanfiction. You don't have to read it if you don't want to, this is just a reward for our winner.
                “Hey, Minwoo! Look over here!”
                “Wha—holy !”
                No Minwoo fell to the ground in one little maknae heap, clutching his stomach. He groaned in pain, feeling like he just got struck by a brick on fire. In between him and his hands was a sunshine yellow medicine ball, the object of choice for his destruction. The one day he can finally dance in peace, it’s disrupted. What was even worse was that it came from the object of his affections.
                “I thought you were the youngest,” she taunted, wagging her finger around. “little kids shouldn’t be cursing.”
                “You’re one to talk.” Minwoo muttered under his breath, going to a sitting position and clutching the heavy ball in his hands. They were the same age, after all. “Seh Lyung-ah, this thing is half my weight!”
                “Half your weight?” the girl looked genuinely surprised to be told this little piece of information. “You weigh that little?”
                “What, you wouldn’t have thrown it if you knew how much it weighed?”
                “Nope.” Seh Lyung grinned to herself, staring at the highlight of her day. She loved to taunt the poor boy. Minwoo was almost never in the Boyfriend dorm, much less the downstairs gym. “So how are your promotions doing? I haven’t seen you in forever!”
                The two both sat against the large mirror under the floor mats, starting up a conversation. Minwoo missed this, their secret quality time together that seldom came up. Minwoo watched Seh Lyung pull out the girly pink handkerchief from her pocket and pressed it to Minwoo’s forehead, cleaning up his face. His eyes fluttered shut, liking the attention. Gosh, he missed her. Had it already been three years since he moved in the same building with her? They didn’t exactly meet up every day, but it felt like just yesterday when he introduced himself.
                “I still can’t believe you threw this at me.” He blew his brunette bangs away from his face, kicking the yellow medicine ball far away from his body.
                Seh Lyung rolled her eyes, and giggled to feign sweetness. “I’m sorry, I just wanted to get your attention.”
                Minwoo wanted to say something along the lines of, “But you always grab my attention.” But he knew it wouldn’t work that way, so he kept his comment shut and thought of another one. He felt his arm being pinched by the girl, and he yelped in response. He could feel his bone sting and his skin scratched.
                “Gosh, you’re really that thin.” Seh Lyung turned her head to the side, getting a better look at Minwoo’s body. “Maybe it was a good thing I threw that ball at you. You need to be manly and bulk up like Hyunseong-oppa!”
                “Hyunseong-oppa?” Minwoo repeated, his tone unconventionally stressing on the way Seh Lyung called the main singer ‘Oppa.’ “Why mention him?”
                Seh Lyung’s eyes sparkled like diamonds, looking eager to explain her reasoning. “Minwoo, you’re all skin and bones! It may be cute now but once you get older you’ll look like a dancing stick!”
                “But I do have muscles!” he argued, pulling up the sleeves of his thin black t-shirt to reveal his slim arms. He tried flexing it, but his skin stayed put. How awkward.
                Poking his arm, she begged to differ. “Maybe one day, and then I’ll consider you par to Hyunseong-oppa.”
                Minwoo twitched, feeling underrated. How dare she! He knew it was her thing to prod around with him, because she knew it ticked him off. But of all people, Hyunseong? People would kill to have Minwoo’s body! In fact, people wanted Hyunseong to diet, and Minwoo to eat more. He’ll show her. Storming over to the open stereo, he put on a heavy bass beat and turned the volume high.
                And there it went. He started dancing, it was Minwoo’s specialty. And it was surely, one thing Shim Hyunseong couldn’t beat him in. With every beat, he hit the moves with all the power and technique he could muster, powered with the flow and feeling of the song. It was a special routine given to him for the near future—in the hopes that one day he could do a solo dance in one of Boyfriend’s music videos. By the time the song was over, he was breathing heavily and sweat was raining from his pores.
                For the final touch, he couldn’t help but take off his shirt. Normally, at the mere act of taking off his jacket, he’d cover himself for the first few seconds for the sake of the fan girls. Not this time. He looked at himself in the mirror, noting the little abs that bubbled from under his skin. Yes, abs. No Minwoo had many secrets, and these babies were one of them.
                “Whoa there Minwoo, no exposure!” Seh Lyung shrieked. Despite herself being a prankster, she was still a girl. Innocence took over and her hands immediately flew to her eyes.
                Minwoo wrapped his shirt in a little ball and threw somewhere to the side, deeming it useless. There was no air conditioner to save him, and this was the perfect excuse to cool off. With some swagger in his step, he strode over to Seh Lyung, and ripped her hands away from her face. Five seconds passed, and she opened one eye, trying to see if her vision was safe.
                Her heart felt that airy leap that couldn’t escape. Minwoo had flashed her a smirk—an expression never to be seen by any Boyfriend fan. “C’mon Seh Lyungie~” he taunted, giving her a taste of her own medicine. “You know I’m hotter than your precious Hyunseong-oppa.”
I CANNOT TAKE IT, MINWOO'S BABY ABBIEESSSS. I guess you all miss Minwoo, huh? I hope that fills the Minwoo void for a bit.  Well, to all the answers I got, I'm sorry that you didn't win. If you stick around long enough, there will definitely be another contest in the future, I have it all planned :) You guys all got Chaejin right, but I was specifically looking for Lee Se Young in the Don't Touch My Girl music video. I'm sorry that I didn't specify it, I guess it might've been too hard, but I can't really do anything if someone answered it right.
chattykitcat: Yay, new subscribers! Makes me so happy~ Maybe what you're thinking of is right? Hehe, it's probably already revealed.
kimhyunwoos_: Well, we'll see, won't we? Oh Kwangmin, what have you done to girls. And again, you've answered the question right! Lalala! Winner! I shall call Boyfriend to go to your house and sing for you, hehe.
minwoo: Your name is Minwoo. OTL, I wish it was the real Minwoo XD
B-HorromiChan: Have updated! Sorry, I wanted a more specific definition of Se Young, the key was Don't Touch My Girl, sorry >.<
ringgoB: Oh Kwangie, so weird. Maybe Seh Lyung should confront Minwoo instead?
janlauricebautista: Happy New Year!
Minkwang_: Fail on Minwoo, who got too star-struck by Ji Eun to go anywhere ;_;
yeologist: Ah, MYNAME XD AND YES, I WENT TO SMTOWN. AND MAY I REPEAT. IT WAS THE BEST FOUR HOURS OF MY LIFE. Everytime I visit Madison Square Garden I cry a little inside because I'm too busy reliving the moments.
bluedragon: I love Jeongmin, he's just so casual and easy to characterize. My baby~ well, everyone in Boyfriend is my baby, OT6~ I guess he didn't end up going to the bathroom, eh?
ELFyourface: Minwoo is back! Hehe, sorry that you didn't win >.<
Superdbskjunior: Already updated! :)
Lilmisschique: Maybe next contest :) Fighting!
raymin: Minwoo and Kwangmin aren't together, sorry. As I've said, the special chapter was irrelevant to this story. Maybe in the sequel to the special chapter, I'll put in some MinKwang, but to be honest I'm not into writing that kind of stuff.
AND, over 70+ subscribers!?!?!?!? Whoaa.
