[ X I V ]
The Dead Wayfarers 2In front of them the explosion was like an explosion on theather's screen. Kyungsoo fell to his knees as everyone watched in horror, but Howon, Dongwoo, and Serri. They were familiar with Seungho's plan and now in front of them they couldn't even react to it. The sound was so loud that they went deaf for a moment, all they could hear is the ringing of their ear drums.
They watch the ten stories high building collapsed. And a few bodies were thrown into the air as they were lauched out from the bottom floors.
That night they stayed there in case Seungho would come back. But that night turned into a few nights, even when Yongguk and the others were reunited. Yongguk gave Kyungsoo the longest hug as someone who knew fairly well what have become of Seungho. Irene joined them after following Seungho's instructions.
The nights turned into a week. Then a week to two weeks. They made use of the hut and hunted animals for food in the forest in teams. Howon and Yongguk led their own teams.
And during that time the city and camp were slowly dying, turning, and biting; some left the area altogether on foot as the gates were broken down by the survivors.
Yongguk squat beside Kyungsoo and Yoo Jung who sat by the fireplace, "Kyungsoo, you've heard Jenissi. Survivors are going to Jeju where others are living at. Are you ready to leave?"
Kyungsoo sighed as he turned back to look at the stack of cement over cement as the dead ones walk around below them. It's been two weeks. He must have really lost Seungho.
[For the emotions xD]
The group have stumbled upon three cars and took them as they headed for Jeju along with many people. Yongguk, Jun Gyu, and Howon drove each car.
Kyungsoo sat in the passenger seat while Yongguk drove the Kia with Yoo Jung, Irene, and CL sleeping in the back. Yongguk glance over to Kyungsoo and on the window, he could see Kyungsoo's reflection. Kyungsoo was in some sort of daze where he could cry if he were to think of any bad memories easily, but he wasn't crying. He was spiritless.
It was difficult to find sleep that month during the trip to Jeju. But when Kyungsoo manage to sleep he'd dream of his family and especially of Seungho's smile. He'd wake up in tears without knowing and would then sob himself back to sleep.
He ate little.
They've parked their three Kias on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere as they got out to put more gas in their cars and eat before moving forward again. As Yongguk fill up the tank Howon walked over to him, he folded his arms and lean against the car. "Is he getting any better? He's been sulking for almost two months."
Yongguk hummed, "He'll be fine."
"I slept in the same room with Seungho for more than two months. Although we barely hold any deep conversations, I could tell he was a good brother." Howon said looking at Yongguk, the older chuckled a little.
"I shared a room with Seungho before too but we've never slept in the same room together. That's quite interesting."
"What do you mean?" Howon raised an eyebrow confuse at the latter's words.
"Seungho and I shared a room back at our hideout, but whenever he's sleeping I'll have to keep watch. When I sleep he keep watch so we never slept in the same room before."
Howon gave him a smug smile, "That's interesting."
"Yeah." Yongguk shut the tank and took a step back from the car. "I envy you."
"Why?"
"You got to spend more time with Seungho even when I knew him first." Yongguk smiled and pat the latter on the shoulder then headed off toward Kyungsoo and Yoo Jung. Howon sighed slowly.
"At least the time you spent with him was memorable though short. I have no memories of Seungho except for that one time in the truck...."
"But bombing, wouldn't that kill the innocent on the residence floors as well?" Howon asked looking toward Seungho's direction.
"If the building collapse, they'll be on the top floors. They'll have less drop on them, so if they're meant to survive then they will survive. If they are meant to die then they'll die."
Howon focused straight ahead and sigh, "If only we could warn them beforehand. I can't help but feel bad for them."
"Me too." Seungho comment. Howon turn to look at Seungho once more.
"Your brother and friends are lucky to have you risking even your life for them. But don't you value life yourself?"
Seungho smiled a little, "Not as much as my brother." Howon formed a thin line with his lips.
"If I survive with your brother, I'll look after him for you. At least that's what I should and can do since I've decided to work with and under you. So at the very least, it would be my payment to you. For my freedom."
"Would that be freedom?"
"Huh?"
Seungho looked directly into Howon's eyes, "I've kept my brother under protection for too long even when I knew he can survive on his own. So if this plan go through and you gain your freedom, you should take your own route. He'll take his wherever it is he has to go or be. That's the only payment from you I can accept." Then Seungho turned his eyes back to the road with a slight smile. Howon smile gently at the latter.
"Thank you....Seungho."
On the road again they pass cities, country side, and other people o
